Damien’s POV
For a moment I thought she’s near. My eyes searched around restlessly to be able to get a glimpse of her. I might sound crazy but I felt the same familiar tingling sensation once again but unfortunately, she wasn’t here.
My heart thumped loudly while I felt a pang of sadness.
Where are you? Please come back…
My head hung low as my throat chocked with emotions. Gulping hard, I stared at my cross-linked fingers remembering how it used to feel when it was intertwined with hers.
The air around me shifted making it cold. My head snapped up to watch the air appeared to be as water blanketing me around. It was strange as my eyes roamed the surroundings. Finally, I spotted two figures not far away from me making me restless.
A kid with saddening eyes stared at me as if feeling my pain stood beside a teenager who looked scared. What caught my eyes were those brown-eyes that resembled my Tasha’s.
“Tasha…?”
Is that you?
I fidgeted in my place as the teenager blocked my view glaring at me. It made me uneasy. I was about to look away when the kid stepped beside and walked towards me with determination.
I watched as the teenager tried to stop but couldn’t. Just as the kid took the second step, the energy around him changed and it ripple like disturbing the calm surface of water. My eyebrows frowned at it. Surprisingly, the other boy wasn’t able to follow and the desperateness visible on his face.
He was calling out to the other but his voice didn’t reach. It gave me an idea like that was a portal of some sort. I was engrossed watching them as to not notice that it was just the three of us now. The other people who swarmed around magically disappeared.
The kid came running to me and halted just a foot away. I watched him panting and looking straight into my eyes, piercing my soul.
His face gentle and soft with those familiar eyes called out for me to drown in them, to read the story hidden. My head tilted a little trying to figure out where I’ve seen them before.
“Hey?” I thought to strike a conversation with this kid.
The lips quivered as he bit his lower lip studying me but the action gave me butterflies in my stomach, reminding of my Tasha.
I averted my eyes as a lone tear slipped out of them, quickly wiping them away. I felt a gentle hand on my thighs grabbing my attention.
The kid stared at my face gesturing me to lean down. Gladly following the orders from this kid, I leaned down to come face level with his. I gulped hard watching those eyes and felt a pang of hurt in my heart.
Only if it was you…
Then like I was dreaming, I saw the aura around him. My eyes ready to pop out seeing the same darkness mist and yellow halo just like my Tasha; fluttered and restless, I gripped his shoulder as tears rolled down his eyes.
“Hey? I am sorry. I am not going to hurt you.” Feeling concerned I cupped his cheek but it stung like hit by an electricity.
I saw him startle and knew he felt it too but it was… odd.
“Don’t cry… You’ll hurt your eyes.” His sweet voice reminded me of the kid I met in Guadeloupe.
“Then you shouldn’t cry as well…” I muttered through my teary gaze as he nodded.
“Where are your parents?” I asked searching around to find no one.
He shrugged pointing to the portal back.
“How did you come here?” I asked not expecting him to answer though because he looked lost.
He shrugged again before tugging on my hand and tapping to the seat beside me. Smiling slightly, I picked him up placing him beside me as he held my hands making me uncomfortable.
His innocent actions were messing with my thoughts which bothered me.
“Are you missing someone?” he asked taking me aback.
Contemplating for a moment, I nodded.
“Yes…” I answered as he turned to look at me.
“Then go to them.” He said with such purity that made me want to cry.
“I can’t. We miss someone when they are-aren’t nearby. I don’t even know where she is and where to find her. I really miss her and hope she misses me too.” Exhaling loudly, I watched him still staring at me with those twinkling eyes.
“I’ve heard that god answers children’s prayer, will you pray for me? To find my love?” I don’t even know why I was rambling to this four or five year old kid but something about him made me want to open up.
To let go of the emotions that I’d been bottling up all these times, I felt the need to share everything because he isn't even going to understand it anyways.
I saw him studying my face as I cupped his cheek. His teary eyes mirroring mine as we stared for god knows how long.
“You know, life is unpredictable. It’s full of thorns and roses but then again the roses are hidden behind the thorns. When I finally found my rose, the person who was true to be real and pure; I broke her and… lost her!
I lost the person I loved and keep repenting it. Never knew I will be able to find the love of my life but failed to protect it and cherish. So, if you ever fall in love don’t be stupid and reckless like me. Okay?” I asked as the kid nodded.
“What’s your name?” I asked after a long silence that followed us.
“You know it.” He said making me raise my eyebrow.
“Do I?” I asked c*****g my head.
He nodded and glanced away.
“Will you come to find me?” He said making me speechless.
“Wh-what do you mean?” I asked but watched the horrified expressions on his cute little face.
“uh-oh!” it sounded so cute from him and made me confused if he was really a boy or a girl.
“Put me down… Put me down!” he demanded breaking the spell his cuteness put on me.
I hurriedly set him down as he ran.
“Where are you going?” I asked running after him. “At least tell your name.”
He stopped making me halt in my place as he turned to watch me and smiled widely.
“My dad’s calling…” He ran again leaving me confused.
“Your name?” I yelled and watched him reach to the earlier spot. Giving up all hopes from this kid, I was about to turn when his voice reached my ears.
“Take this!” He threw something taking out from his neck.
It glittered like a gold; maybe a necklace??? I walked to get it as he continued.
“Keep it safe!” He instructed and I bent to pick the object up.
The pendant lying in front of my eyes stunned me making my limbs tremble. With shaky hands I touched it and picked it up to study it better.
Was I tricked?
I stood there with mouth agape watching him or let me say her touch the air making it ripple in response.
“I’ll wait for you Damien. Come and get me…” With those words she disappeared between those ripples as I stood there with my jaw dropped.
Tasha!
My tears streamed down at the pendant in my hand. It couldn’t be mistaken who it belonged to reminding of that beautiful day.
Flashback
I hugged her placing a kissing on her forehead while handing her a shopping bag. She watched me curiously as I gave her a cheeky smile.
“Go ahead. It is for you.”
She was eager and opened it picking up the gift-wrapped box, hurriedly unwrapping it. She was excited and I watched waiting for her reaction as she opened the box and found a beautiful couple pendant set inside.
She stared at it with amazement watching the chains made of gold and platinum and the pendant in form of a star. A complete star enclosed in a ring. The ring had engravings saying ‘Pinky Promise (Diamond) To Always Find U’ and the stars had a diamond each with her image on the bigger one and mine image on the smaller one. Our names were engraved at the backside. Her star had ‘Damien’ and mine star had ‘Tasha’ written.
She stared at it with teary eyes and bit her lips to hold on to the tears that were already slipping out.
“Hey! Don’t cry. I wanted to give you this as a promise that I will always be with you Tay.” I quickly embraced me her kissing her forehead.
This was all I could’ve asked for… her in between my arms.
“Pinky promise?” she laughed extending her little finger.
“Pinky promise...” I hooked my little finger around hers.
Flashback Ended
This was the same pendant I gave her as a promise gift. The pendant engraved with my name behind her picture and the saying ‘Pinky promise to Always Find You…’
There was no doubt she was my Tasha!
How could it be? She is just a—kid?
Fuck!
I’ve met her before… yes! I’ve met her before. How stupid of me not to have found this earlier? I promised her to always find her and here I stood wasting my time crying over spilled milk.
Fuck!
“Tasha!!!” I shouted watching the air dissolve and thinning before I felt the natural breeze around me.
I watched people appear busy and same watching me with weird expressions.
I broke down falling on my knees crying over missing the opportunity to have her close. She was here with me… She was so damn close, yet I couldn’t figure it out.
Such a f*****g asshole I am…
I mentally cursed not being able to jot the signs together. The aura, those eyes, the gentleness and the same sweet voice… Even the magical appearance!
How dumb of me to not being able to understand the same tingling sensation!
I crouched there on the grass, clutching my hair out in desperation and frustration.
But then with determination to get her back, I stood up leaving the park and heading towards her apartment.
Our home…
