Yuri’s POV
The place is becoming lonely. There’s no one to play around with and nowhere I can go to find a company. I sighed as I strolled in the backyard huffing.
“How can they just leave? They didn’t tell me about it, not even Tasha. Huh!” I kicked a pebble with my toe and kept strolling.
This morning when I ran to her house with fruit custard which she likes, I was surprised that the place was locked. Not wanting to believe it, I tried every window and c***k to get inside but the place was as still as death. Feeling betrayed and left out; I slouched in the porch feeling upset.
What could have happened to make them leave all of a sudden? I felt lost... after seventeen damned years, I finally had someone to play around without being judged and then... she left me.
The loss of a close friend more like a family infuriated me and I left the place giving it a last glance.
“Why made you grumpy?” Mom asked and I gave her a tired gaze.
“Tasha left.” I muttered in annoyance and she gasped.
“Left? Where?” She asked and I narrowed my eyes at her.
“How can I know that mum?” I scowled at her like an ass.
“I thought you can!” She winked and I was left dumbfound.
What was that?
“You know I saw a coming storm with darkness and suffocation in the near future. It brought death around it and a girl emerged from within the cyclone of this mist. I don’t think you need any reference to who that girl might be?” She said with grave expression.
“Tasha?” I asked scared and she nodded with a heavy sigh.
“She should not leave this place Yuri. Her powers are out of control and budding this moment. She would be a danger not only to the others but to herself.” She explained and I grew scared all the more.
“What should I do now?” I asked nervously.
“Find her, locate her and persuade her to come. If not possible; stay with her Yuri like you’ve been doing from past a year.” She smiled encouraging.
“I can try...” I said shrugging.
It wasn't in my hand. I know she can with her shamanism but how does she expects me to do that?
Unless...
I smiled and she smiled back.
“Thank you, mom!” I gushed and ran to my place.
Standing in front of the mirror, I swirled my shoulder blades. I can do it! It’s been long when it happened first. The day when I became extraordinary from the ordinaries; the day when I was left alone and mum was exiled. I was a toddler but the painful memory was still etched on my mind.
As per the history; my great grandma was the one who helped them get rid of the demon with my grandma. They passed their powers and magic to my mom when she was pregnant with me. That was when people were scared of all the unnatural happenings around. They thought it was the work of some evil thing and targeted my mom for it wherein she was the one protecting them.
The vampires were frequently visiting this place in search of their ancestor but failed as mum was working her best in keeping that burial place sealed. My dad was a werewolf—the alpha of his peck. The time I was born, my dad made us go underground to calm the population who considered me a cursed child. According to them, I was an omen inviting the undead. I lived there in the basement for whole year until that day when I heard my mother shriek.
She was panicking and clutched me to her chest. There were loud banging on trap door while she kept holding it tightly. The angry curses still affected me but I cannot remember a single word from there.
The trap door was scrapped off and my mom fell on the floor with me atop her. She crawled back asking them not to hurt me.
Her tears washing my face as I watched the villagers closing distance on us. The noise, the violence and the growing heat sparked something in me and I growled like an animal.
My mom’s eyes widened as I sprung on them scaring them off.
“Kill it!” they screamed and I glanced behind my shoulder at my mom. She was stupefied watching me.
Those people ran to me, showing their burning wood-logs at me as if I was an animal.
“Shoo... Shoo...” the pretended to be brave wherein they weren’t.
They were scared but the desire to hurt us was strong enough for them not to turn their back and run.
“Please... don’t harm us. We’d leave...” My mom screamed and their eyes darted from mom to me.
“Leave now or else you won’t be able to see his ugly face again.” They spat at her and left one by one.
One of them threw their shoe at me and I jumped on him. It was then when I saw wolf-paws and stood in amaze. I wanted to touch them but it wasn't my hand; it was the paw moving that confused me even more.
The man cried and ran off while my mom embraced me. Suddenly her body was petite and it scared me. The warmth that engulfed me once wasn't enough today.
She whispered it’s going to be okay while her eyes were streaming down with tears. I was scared now, wanted to give her comfort and get the same. She caressed me until, things started getting blurred and I saw my mom peppering my face with kisses.
Sigh!
That was the night when I lost my dad who was attacked by the villagers. As I grew up, she always reminded me to stay hidden.
“They shouldn’t know...” she would whisper placing a finger on her lips.
When I was eight, I felt more heat rising in me and she said it was okay. She said that was normal to feel feverish because it is what I am.
She would make me practice with her; having control and channelizing my new fond energy in other ways. Even though she said people downhill were bad and evil yet she always done psychic practice.
“Mum, what do you do?” I asked and she would smile at me heavenly and ruffle my hair.
“I am making sure the demon there wouldn’t come back. This needs to be done to save this place and the people from his wrath.” She would stand and leave me behind.
“But they don’t deserve this... they are bad. They killed papa, attacked us and even made grandma’s life a living hell!” I would refute when I was sixteen.
In return, she would stare as if I said a forbidden word.
“People are selfish and coward doesn’t mean we should become like that. We have to save if we can and without asking anything in return of it because we aren’t doing anyone a favour.” She would dab a finger at my side while explaining.
“Please don’t become like them Yuri. Your dad was an exemplary role of that.” She would smile that lovingly smile whenever mentioning about dad.
I still don’t understand her POV because I was lonely. I could hear chirpy voices of people down the hill while I stayed alone with my mom. I lacked friend and they were scared of me because... I wasn't normal like them.
I was a shapeshifter!
My mom would feel scared if I even left the house for a stroll near the forest but I became less aggressive and happier when Tasha was born.
It was the first time when my mom wasn't afraid to let me linger around another family. It was the first time I was welcomed by someone and got love from Emma and her, filling my chest with immense pleasure.
When she called me Yuri for the first time, I was overjoyed. I promised to protect her always because my mom had told me that she was just like me. People are scared off her and the re-birth just made her more dangerous.
She said since her death involved betrayal, her darker side was dominating her. She needed to be tamed because deep within her was her true self—the sweet and innocent self.
When she was afraid to hurt me and cried; I was moved. She was the second person in my life caring so much for me and I wasn't going to just let her go like this... Never!
She was my sister, my responsibility and my only companion. She needs to be strong to face the world even if I wasn't near her and I was about to make sure to train her till she masters it. Train her till she’s able to get over her darker side which would grow with her powers.
Not everyone knows that this angel was... tainted!
