After the storm filled night, the whole town is in ruins, Birch, Honey, May, and their Pokémon all cleaning up debris and fixing damage to the houses. Brendan, Glinda, and their Pokémon patching holes in the roof of their house. I stand there in silence with the sun shining greatly through the partly cloudy sky. I walk over to Birch and ask if I can help any, he looks at me with sweat running down his nose, "Viper, you've done so much already, we've almost got this done...I think it's time you set out and begin your adventure. I see you've made even another friend. A female buneary that's also a shiny, she looks to have a naughty nature. Here..." he hand me a love ball that is pink and purple with a heart imprint on the front, “this will make a good ball for her to stay in," he smiles, and I take the ball, touch it to her forehead, she blinks and smiles as she zips into the ball, it rocks once and pops as a successful capture. Birch looks surprised and says, "ha! That one must really like you only having only rocked once! That’s what we like to call a critical catch, it normally only happens when you’re lucky!” He chuckles smiling as he puts his hand on my shoulder, "well your Pokémon are over by Brendan and May helping with the roof. You should tell those two to set out as well. We will handle the rest of things here. Have fun, be safe, and take care of one another. I see a great future for you and your partners,” he smiles giving me a nudge. I smile back at him and walk over to May, Brendan, and the g**g.
"Hey guys Birch said he thinks that it's time for us to head out. Hey Loomy and Hinoté!" I crouch down and hold out my arms as they both run over and tackle me over with a hug, "I've got a surprise for you guys, look at our new friend,” I laugh reaching over, pulling the love ball out, and pressing the button. Buneary pops out and sparkles while smiling and doing a cute pose. When she notices Loomy and Hinoté, she has a nervous feel to her body language and looks up at Loomy and smiled, her eyes glance over to Hinote and he has a look of nervousness as well, "I know Hinote. It's something you're not used to, but we are all a team. And we will make even more friends later," I smile at him putting my hand on his head petting him softly, "trust me buddy, I will never let anything happen to you like that again," I assure him taking one finger and crossing my chest to make an X across my heart while smile at him. He smiles and bows at Buneary. "Ok, miss Buneary you need a nickname, something that fits you well. Let me think..." I scratch my head thinking of what to call this cute little thing. I look around and everyone is looking at me like they were waiting to hear what name I was going to bestow upon her, "what?! Haha I didn't know you guys were paying me any attention,” I laugh nervously.
May walks up, puts her hand on Buneary's head, and pets her softly, "you give really cute names to your Pokémon, so we are all waiting to see what you come up with tehe," she giggles slightly.
I pick the Buneary up, lift her up towards the sky, and spin her around in a complete circle, "I think I've got it. How does Setsei sound?" I ask, and she looks around at everyone, they all nod and smile at her, she looks back at me, smiles, closes her eyes, and nods.
“Buneeeee!" Buneary agrees happily. After that reaction I know that she is excited for her new name.
"That settles it," I pull her over to my right shoulder and set her down. I kneel down, Loomy runs up my arm into my bag, and Hinote climbs up my left arm settling down on my left shoulder.
I stand up and walk to the edge of town when I hear May's voice, "wait Viper! Brendan and I are gonna join you. I think it would be special if we all three took our first steps of our adventure together!" She and Brendan catches up to me and positions herself between Brendan and I, curling her arms around ours. She looks at Brendan, then to me, smiles and says, "alright! Guys ready?" We both nod and smile, "Pokémon ready?" All of our Pokémon simultaneously let out a gleeful cry, "ohh...kay!! Leeeeeets goooooo!!!" She enthusiastically shouts as we all walk the very short route together until we hit Oldale town, then she lets our arms go, walks a couple of steps forward, and turns around, “that was memorable! I'm going to make sure to write that in my adventure journal! Oh I put you both one in your bags! Oh! Also, let me see your Pokénavs!" She demands still excited, and Brendan hands her his as I stand there looking confused, “oh...that's right! I forgot you didn't get one..." she sighs disappointedly, then I remember the handheld computer that was in my bag, so I hold up a finger in waiting to her. I carefully pull my bag around trying not to trip the feet of my Pokémon on my shoulders, open the front most pocket, pull out the device, and hand it to May. She studies it curiously with mixed emotions, "this looks like a Pokénav…but it's way more advance than the one daddy gave me and Brendan. Hmm...? It's already got all the bells and whistles that I was gonna add to it. And it has the function of an IntraDex too? What is this? Oh Wailmer then, Mr. Viper you're lucky to have this, whatever it is,” she smiles curiously and hands it back to me, then she says, “hey…can I see that journal I put in your bag?” She requests, and I hand it to her, then she turns around. I can smell burning leather and hear her squeak every couple of seconds, then she turns around and hands it back to me. I notice her hands are all bandaged up and the front of my journal has the words "Viper's Incredible Adventure" very beautifully burned into the leather. I look up at her and smile gratuitously, I am really excited to start writing in it and make sure that I catch every detail that happens along the way, even though I have some catching up to do, since so much has already happened. She smiles back as she hands Brendan his Pokénav and journal, then she gives him a hug. He holds out his hand to me, I take it, and we have a moment of rivalry between us while shaking hands, I can feel the intensity of his desire to be stronger in every way. He nods his head, looks over at May, then walks off towards the left and heads onward to the next route. May turns back to me, took a few steps towards me, and is standing with her face just an inch from mine. She smiles gently, her eyes looking at mine, bouncing back and forth from eye to eye, "you know...you have the most beautiful aquamarine eyes, so much color and detail in a pair of eyes…it's almost unreal," she pauss for a moment to look at my right eye, "your right eye has a small purple line going from the top of your cornea to the bottom. Did you know that?" She inquires, to which I shake my head no. She continued staring at my eyes for a good moment, "I don't know why but I just can't look away, it's...just...so..." her eyes drift down to my mouth, back to my eyes, then she closes her eyes slowly as she cautiously drifts into my face connecting her lips to mine. The kiss lasts for just a moment, and it is just lips, like it was her first and she doesn’t know any more than that. She pulls back, opens her eyes, and I notice she is blushing really brightly as she looks like she has Pikachu cheeks. She smiles from ear to ear, giggles, wraps her arms around me, hugs me tightly, and whispers, "that was my first kiss, I'm happy it was you..."
There is a loud voice from the distant north that can be heard all the way back in Littleroot, "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!" It surprises us both, and May lets me go as we both look in the direction of the scream. We both search from west to east looking for anything that it may have come from. Even the townspeople stop what they are doing to help with search.
May turns back to me and smiles, "well time for me to be off! Oh! Before I go, you should go to the north and check out the route above here," she points to the north, "there's this nice little pond up there that sparkles all the time. It's mysterious and neat,” she suggests with a wink, then she walks over to the westward path, holds up two fingers, and runs off with her Mudkip following right beside her.
"Hmm that girl is something else, so…should we check out the route up north? See what all good stuff we can find up there?" I ask looking around at my Pokémon, they yelp in agreement at the same time, “haha alright then," I chuckle before I start walking up out of the tree way towards the middle of the town and a middle aged man runs up to me with his hand up to halt me.
"Hold up kid!" His outfit is a white dress shirt, navy blue pants, brown leather loafers, and a light blue vest with several different pins saying things like his name 'Jeffery', 'employee of the season' 'best salesman of the year' 'P(<3)kém(<3)n' and various others with pictures of Pokémon. He has to catch his breath, "you're a trainer right?" He asks panting, to which I nod in agreement, "right! So follow me," he takes me over to the Pokémon center, explains everything about it, then over to the store, explains everything about it and hands me a potion, "here's our promotional item. I hope you have a great adventure!" He then walks over to the wall of the store and props up against it. I raise an eyebrow wondering why he went through all of that effort just to give me a potion. I shake my head, walk around the edge of the store, around the corner, and up to the edge of town.
I look over to the couple of ledges that span the path northwards, there is a water front to the east, and the tree line surrounds the rest of the path, "this must not be much of a route. I guess it's just this small bit," I shrug as I walk up, move around the first ledge, walk through some unkempt grass, walk around the second ledge, and finally see the small pond, “huh, guess she was right, it is always sparkling. That's neat," I keep walking towards it, there is a tree to the right of the pond that stands high above the others. I walk to the edge of the pond, look down at the water, and see my reflection as clear as a mirror as the water is perfectly still. I crouch down as all three of my Pokémon jump down to the ground around me to look at the still water. Setsei looks deep into it almost touching the water then looks straight up at the tree. I hear some leaves rustling as a branch breaks off and lands on the ground a couple of feet away. I look up, but do not see anything and look over to Setsei, "did you see something? A Pokémon or a person?" I ask, to which she nods a curious yes and points up at the tree. I stand up, walk over to the trunk of the tree, and look up, "hey there," I say with a comforting voice hoping not to spook whatever is up there. I search for a while, but cannot find anything. I feel a bit of disappointment as I look back down at my Pokémon and kneel down at the edge of the pond. It is so clear that you can see the bottom. I notice a glimmer at northern edge, it looks like a light being eclipsed by my shadow, so I turn around and notice the sun setting just above the horizon. I look up my Pokémon and smile with an idea in mind, "hey, you guys want to wait here and watch the sun set? Then we can camp out under this tree and watch the stars for a bit before we continue on...it's up to you guys." I ask leaning back in waiting, they each look at each other and start talking amongst themselves. Even though I can understand their tones, body language, and how they are talking...I cannot actually understand what they were actually saying, "I wish that I could understand what you guys are saying like you do me..."
"They are talking about switching places in your bag silly. I do hope you stay with me here,” a voice talking under their breath says, which interrupts me.
I look up at the tree again, this time with even greater curiosity, "I can hear you!" I lightly shout, "you can come down, we are friendly I swear, Hinote doesn't bite hard," I finish the sentence in a bit of a chuckle while looking down at Hinote, he looks up at me, squints his eyes, and sticks his tongue out at me. I start laughing and the rest of the g**g begins laughing with me.
I hear the person in the tree laughing too, then all of a sudden some branches start breaking and leaves rustling. "Whoa...oh...oh no!" The voice cracks a slight scream as the graceful, yet clumsy body falls out of the tree. I reach out my arms in a fashion to catch the person hoping not to hurt them. Just as soon as I do they land right into my arms face down. My left arm around the legs and my right across the chest, I notice my right hand was holding onto some kind of pillow.
“Oh this is not good...” I think to myself as I start blushing. To try and keep from her getting angry, I crouch down and brace my body building strength. Then I toss her up into the air flipping her body around, her hair flowing through the air and her clothes ruffling gracefully as she lands back in my arms, this time right side up.
Her hair is now covering her face, and you can see see her trying to blow it off her face, “ppbbtt, fffppbbtt!” she puts her left arm around my neck to brace herself, and takes her right hand to brush her hair out of her face.
“Oh wow, it's the girl from the storm, she's still just so beautiful...” I think to myself. I started smiling and blushing as I stare into her bright eyes, one is a deep oceanic sapphire blue and the other is a lighter amethyst purple. She is smiling and blushing as well, then she waves her hand between our faces to catch my attention.
"Hello in there?! Do I have something on my face?" She asks causing me to snap to when I hear her voice, it is so soft and melodic like the voice of a professional singer. I cannot speak a word, my mind is in daze, and my imagination is at work trying to figure out why, or even how I am so lucky. I happen to be here when Birch is giving away Pokémon, I make new friends almost immediately, both human and Pokémon, I meet this amazingly beautiful girl, who I think has a crush on me, I am able to save a poor Buneary from dying, and everything that has happened up to this point just feels as if I am one of luckiest people ever, but also like someone somewhere is pulling strings behind the scenes. The amazement I am struck in lasts for what seems like hours, but only a moment passes by. She is still smiling when she finally speaks again, "so...are you gonna kiss me? Because I feel like you’re wanting a kiss for being my hero twice..." I look at her shocked at the crazy request that just came out of no where, "I mean, you did save my life during that storm and the hero is supposed to kiss the princess when he saves her right?" She swings her left arm around and puts her hand on the back of my neck, with her eyes affixed to mine, it feels like she was staring straight through me. She pulls back and jumps out of my arms blushing a deep crimson red. “Umm! I don’t know what you think you’re doing but I’m not gonna kiss you just for saving me a couple of times!” She squeals as her fake frustration feels very cute, because her face is almost solid red. She dusts herself off and fixes her wrinkled clothes. She looks up at me and my Pokémon with a confused look, since we are all giggling, “what?! Is something wrong?" She looks at me with an innocent look that could make the most evil man who has never felt any sort of emotion feel guilty.
I point to her head and hair, both filled with leaves and sticks from the tree, "I'm sorry miss, but you have a mess of debris in your hair."
She feels the top of her head and ran her fingers through her gleaming white hair, “ugh! Why didn't you say so before?!" She asks in frustration.
I look at Loomy, "would you care to help the pretty girl? If you would please use vine whip to help get some of the debris out, please," I request, and Loomy uses vine whip to carefully pick the leaves and smaller sticks out, "I'm sorry miss, I was...I was..." I was at a loss of words again, just astounded by her. I do not know why I can not wrap my mind around her, it was like she was part of my imagination or something. But I have physically felt her…oh…and Glinda helped her too so I wasn’t the only one, that means she is real…right?
"You were what? Silly boy...just spit it out!" She giggles, and I turn around and look at Hinoté as if he can help me out any. He looks up at me, gives me an annoyed look, huffs, and blows a cinder right into my face, “haha I like your little Torchic, he has a cute sense of humor!" She giggles. Hinoté smiles at her, then looks at me and sticks his beak in the air in a sassy manner. I laugh through my soot covered face, then I take a deep breath and let out slowly trying to get a grip on myself.
I wipe the soot off with the sleeve of my jacket, “it's just that you're so beautiful, miss. I was merely speechless and at a loss of words. I guess I’m still trying to figure out if you’re really even real, or if I’m still dreaming. Besides, last night when my adrenaline was rushed by trying to help you, and Setsei here," I admit looking at Setsei, "I've never seen you before..."
She interrupts me with haste, “ooh! You named her Setsei?! That's so adorable!" She squeals as she crouches down, picks Setsei up, and hugs her tightly, "you're such a cutie pie! I'm so glad that big Stantler, and this silly boy here, saved you!" She hugs her tightly.
Setsei looks at with desperation in her eyes, "umm miss I think you're hugging just a little too tigh..." I begin to point out.
She interrupts me again. "Oh! I'm so sorry little Setsei! I didn't mean to!"
Setsei tilts her head slightly and smiles "buh neee!" she lets out a sigh in relief with in a forgiving tone.
"By the way 'MISTER' you can call me by my name, it's on the inside of your hat...I'm the one that's been writing you the love letters," her eyes grow big and she starts blushing brightly, she lets go of Setsei and puts her hands over her face. Setsei lands on her tail and bounces backwards rolling to a stop a couple of feet away, "wait! They're not love letters! I swear, that just slipped out, I'm sorry," her face turns to dismay and guilt.
I reach my left hand out and grab her by her shoulder, “it's cool, I enjoyed them, and I wouldn't mind receiving more," I admit, then she looks up at me and I smile at her. I let go of her shoulder and look up to the horizon, “you know, we haven’t actually properly introduced ourselves...” I look back down to her face and extend my hand out to her, “my name is uh...Viper!” I somehow start to remember my real name, but the word Viper shoots out before the other name slips out.
She grabs my hand and shakes it gently, “my name is Leila, Leila Vulcane. Pleasure,” she curtsies with a smile, I bowin return, and we all laugh a little, “so are you gonna stick around here and watch the sunset? This pond over here reflects the stars like a mirror at night and even has a little light show of its own if you’re interested in watching it...” she informs me, and I can sense that she is really trying to sell me on staying the night here. It is a good idea to get some rest and an early start. I look around to see where all my Pokémon are and notice Hinoté is still standing behind me, but he is using a stick in his beak to draw in the dirt; Loomy is walking around the edge of the forest picking berries and putting them in my old leather bag, which is a bag that I had with me when I woke up here, but it is not a very big bag, however it did have that stone in it; Setsei is sitting behind Leila exactly where she landed, she looks like she is just enjoying being here. I look back up at Leila who is staring directly at me, and has been the whole time, “gah! What?! Do I still have soot on my face?! What are you staring at?” I ask in a jesting manner.
She looks as if she is in a daze but snaps out of it when she hears me voice, “no! Of course I don’t wanna kiss! Wait...what?! What’s going on? Are you staying?” She rambles, and of course, she is daydreaming.
“Yeah I’ve decided to go ahead and make camp for today then get an early start on tomorrow. Plus you have me curious about this pond,” I respond to her question while looking around again noticing the big tree has a fairly large inlet on the west side of it between two large roots on both sides. It looks perfect for a spot to lay in and be covered on three sides. You would have to stand right at the root to see the inlet from the side as the roots are so high. The open part faces directly west and is open at the top as well, “I’m gonna set up a place for me over by the big tree, do you guys want to come over there?” All three of my Pokémon look at me, nod simultaneously, and make their way to the tree. I look back at Leila who still has her hands clasped together at her mouth nervously, “are you coming? Or did you have your own place picked out?” I ask, to which she smiles and skips over to the tree. I move the leaves, rocks, sticks, and other debris out of the inlet creating a large spot for us all to lay in. I grab my bag, pull the sleeping bag out of the bottom part, roll it out, and unzip it all the way. Setsei, Hinoté, and Loomy all grab a corner helping me stretch it out across the grass, “and there...thanks guys! I think Loomy was gathering food right?” I ask causing us all to look over at Loomy and she jumps in surprise as if she is forgetting something. So she runs over to where she was picking berries earlier and attempts to pick up the leather bag but fails, “hang on Loomy I’ll...”
“No I’ll help her, I want to...” Leila offers interrupting me while smiling as she gets up and walks over to help Loomy.
I look down when I hear Hinoté scratching on the tree, “what are you doing buddy?” I ask him curiously, and he looks up to a limb that stretches out right above our heads, “you want to sit up there?” He nods yes, “alrighty then...” I bend over, pick him up, and sit him on the limb as his feet dig into the wood. He looks content while looking out over the horizon, then he lowers his body over his legs and sits down. I look down at Setsei who is already laying down on the sleeping bag relaxing. “You are just one Buneary who likes to enjoy life, huh?” I chuckle, and she smiles, takes in a deep breath, and lets it out long and slow. I notice Leila walking back with Loomy holding a bunch of berries and Leila holding the bag.
“Your Pokémon are very kind and sweet, I hope you know that,” Leila smiles at me and hands me the bag, “there are 4 different types in there and they’re all delicious...” I look in the bag until she says delicious, then I look up at her and notice she has some purple berry juice on the side of her mouth. I grin and start to chuckle slightly as she grimaces, “is there something funny about my face to you?”
“No!” I say while laughing now, “here, let me just...” I wet my thumb with my tongue and reach over to her face, her eyes follow my every move with the utmost curiosity. I gently wipe the juice off her mouth, then pull my hand back and lick the juice off. I look back at her and her face is full of embarrassment, shock, and she is blushing. Her entire face from her hairline down to her neck is solid red. As if she has gotten a bad sunburn, “are you ok?” I ask hoping not to get slapped.
“I..I..uh...yeah, umm...thank you,” she stammers shyly, then she walks over to the root on the side and sits on it quietly. I look down at Loomy and she gives me a questioning look. I shrug my shoulders and turn back to the tree walking to the sleeping bag. I sit the bag down next to the pile of berries at the same time Loomy sits down. Loomy helps me pick the berries out and set them on the sleeping bag in order of their color. Once we are done I crawl over to the tree and prop up against it to watch the final parts of the sunset as it hits the horizon and they start blending together.
Leila walks over to my left side and gracefully sits right up against my left shoulder. Hinote hops down from the limb, walks over to Leila, and sits on her lap resting his head on her stomach. Loomy and Setsei walk around our legs to my right side, loomy curls up under my right arm and Setsei crawls over my legs very carefully and plops down between us at our legs. Leila looks at my left hand when she runs her hand down my arm until she reaches my hand, then she grabs it, and pulls my arm around the back of her head, and lays her head on my chest. She interlocks our fingers and takes her right hand and holds on to Hinote. I move my right arm around Loomy and hold her against me. We all sit there in silence as the last bit on sun shimmers over the horizon and finally disappears.
