Act- 1 Chapter- 1 Welcome to Hoenn
Welcome to the wonderful mysterious world of Pokémon! Where people and Pokémon come together to do miraculous things. Be it trainers battling, breeders raising, professors learning and teaching, or the darker side of dark people with bad intentions who use Pokémon for their own greedy will. But there are some people who take extensive care and love for their Pokémon and become great friends with everlasting bonds. So our story begins in the Hoenn region, where our hero wakes up in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people and pokemon standing around him while one, more important, man looking at him and questioning him.
I think and think, but nothing comes to mind, heck, I cant even remember my own name. So I start looking around the room discreetly, trying to pick out words to come up with something. I see a picture of a contest star along side her master rank winning Seviper. AHA! that's it! "My name is Viper" they all look around and at each other at such a curious name, "but i cant remember where I'm from...can you tell me where I am now?" The man approaches and offers a hand to help me up.
"My name is Professor Birch, and you seem to have landed here in Odale town, I live just down the way in Littleroot and my lab is there too, I'm the Pokemon professor here in Hoenn, lets get you over to the lab, get you some rest, and see how you're doing."
I follow him out of the town and down this short somewhat winding path, somehow avoiding taller unkempt grass until we get to the end where there are a couple of houses and a big barn looking building with a telescope, satellite dish, and a coffee mug on the roof. As he leads me through the small somewhat barren village, he asks me if I was a Pokémon trainer and if i had any pokemon to call my partner, or partners, and also introduces the small town as Littleroot.
"No sir I dont think I am, or was a trainer that I can remember...but I have a very faint memory of seeing something playing with me when I was really young...but I don’t know what it was, or its name, just a very faint picture in the far reaches of my memory." He asks me to describe as best as I can but I can only get small details when I close my eyes. A beautiful voice, long green hair and gorgeous blue eyes are all I can put into words.
The professor looks puzzled and shakes his head, "Sorry young Viper, I can’t make heads or tails of your past Pokémon, maybe you'll see it again one day. In the mean time theres a bed over on the other side of the lab, make yourself comfy and get some rest, I've got a new neighbor moving in next door tomorrow and my daughter's birthday is tomorrow too, so I have a big day to fill and not much time to fill it. But you're more than welcome to join us."
I walk over to the bed in the corner of the lab, pull back the covers, and lay down, but since it wasn't long since I had just woken up, I cannot sleep. So I get up, walk outside, trot over to the edge of town and look into the grass. I watch 3 Poochyena, a Shroomish, and a Zigzagoon running and playing what seems to be hide'n'seek. I sit down with my legs crossed watching them play for some time until the Shroomish notices me and looks at the other Pokémon before pointing towards me. The 3 Poochyena run off, but the Zigzagoon and Shroomish walk over to me, the Shroomish pulls a berry out of its pouch and offers it to me. It has a blue spherical shape with a stem and dimples. Professor birch walks up and says, "that is an Oran berry, it has a nice sweet taste. I'm shocked these wild Pokémon took a liking to you so quickly without even knowing you. But I found out where you're from, I can't tell you much but I know the region from professor Cyprus. It's the Grecia region. And I'd like to see some of the rare Pokémon from that region. But Viper, there's something else, Cyprus said that she couldn't find anything about your parents. She said the house that was on the records for you was an old arena type coliseum that had been deserted for years. And the records continue onward that the Olym Pokédruids found you there playing with the mysterious Pokémon. Does any of this ring a bell?" He asks as I sit there with my mouth full of the Oran berry chewing and shake my head no. Birch sits down beside me with one knee propped up and starts petting the Zigzagoon. "The Pokédruids are a group of legendary Pokémon in Grecia that have watched over the region with great care and were said to have banished the great Chronas to the Mizan labyrinth. Chronas was said to have helped arceus in creating our world but turned dark by the desire for more power and nobody was able to cleanse the darkness in its heart. So the Pokédruids created a song that immobilized it and banished it to Mizan. I'm going back to the lab to tell Cyprus that you're safe and sound and I'll see you in the morning. Have fun with these Pokémon while they're out playing,” he says smiling as he stands up and returns to the lab.
I sit there pondering the news I just received, take the half of the Oran berry, break it in half, and give it to the shroomish and zigzagoon. They both look delighted that I would share with them. The look on the shroomish's face is that of trust and curiosity. I give it a good petting on the head and scratch the zigzagoon behind the ears, then I stand up, stretch my arms and legs, and walk over to a nearby tree standing alone by a pond. The shroomish follows me over as the zigzagoon walks into the taller grass and disappears. I sit at the trunk of the tree and feel something in my pocket. So I reach in and find a pokéball with a note that reads, "this is for you in case you're able to find a friend before the party tomorrow, your friend, Birch." I look at the Pokéball curiously, then look at the Shroomish and it gives me a smile and nod of approval, so I tap it on the head with the Pokéball and a red flash appears as it disappears into the ball. It shakes 3 times in my hand before it makes a “ponge” sound and the button glows green. I press the button on the front and it pops back out of the ball, then it smiles and jumps with glee and amazement in its eyes. It walks over to me and nuzzles up under my arm and falls asleep. My eyes wander up to the sky and I notice that the moon is full and shining so bright that you can see just as you would in the daylight. As I look around the sky I notice a shooting star that flies across the dark violet sea of stars and planets, and as it soars, it leaves ripples like water in its trail that seems to bend the space around it. It moves slowly as if it is treading through thick berry juice. Just as I think it is going to disappear, it hits a good way south of where I am. But it makes no sound that I can hear. Only a bright blue flash and then everything resumes to normal. Soon after, I can barely hold my eyes open and drift into sleep.
The sun rises sharply and the light cuts into my eyes as it peels over the horizon, meanwhile the Taillow and Pidgeys are bustling, and the Magikarp are splashing and jumping about. I stand up and a note falls off me and hits the ground. The Shroomish picks it up and hands it to me. It is folded in the shape a heart and has "I see you" written on the front. I open it up and it has a sweet aroma that smells of Roselia petals and fresh lemonade. I begin to read, "You don't know me but I know you. I watched you while you were sitting with those Pokémon. You were so nice to share the gift that the Shroomish had given you, also how that Shroomish took to you so well after only knowing you for a short while. But they say that Pokémon have an instinct for trainers that they would want to travel with. Also you're kinda cute but that's not why I'm writing you." The note ends but there's a fold in the paper, I raise the fold up and continued reading, "THIS IS NOT A LOVE LETTER! I swear. But I left you a gift behind the tree, I hope it serves you well as you embark on your new adven..." it looks like they ran out of paper to write on. I turn it around and the back is decorated with Luvdisc, Alomomola, Staryu, and Pikachu stickers. I smile and fold the note back the way it was and put it in my pocket. I walk around the tree and see a black backpack with several different pockets and a symbol on the main part of it that is a deep blue fist pointed upwards on top of lighter blue jagged snowflake that has crossing electric blue lightning bolts behind it. I open it up and it has 5 Pokéballs, 10 potions, a parlyz heal, antidote, and something that looks like a high tech smart handheld computer. I zip it back up and grab it by the single shoulder strap and notice a charm hanging from a loop on the lower part of the strap, it is a 4 point teal star with a blue tassel hanging from it.
“Neat!” I think to myself. I hear a voice yell from the distance calling my name and I look towards Littleroot and see Birch waving his arms at me then gesturing for me to come his way. I put the bag on, adjust the strap to be comfortable, and look down at the shroomish, "You need a name...how about Loomy?" I ask, and it jumps up and down with excitement and a smile on its face. "Alright, Loomy, you ready to go have some fun?" It smiles and nods in agreement, I pick it up and it points to my bag, so I open the main pocket just slightly enough for it to sit right inside with its head poking out. I walk over to Littleroot and Birch waves his arm, nods his head, and turns to walk over to the back of the lab where an awning is pulled out. There are a few people there with Birch, his daughter, his wife, a lady, and her son. I walk over towards Birch, he puts his hand on my shoulder and introduces me to everyone.
"This here is Viper, he's a newcomer to this town and region. He arrived early last night to say hey everyone, join the in on the festivities, and get his first Pokém..."
His daughter interrupts "but daddy he already has a Pokémon! Why can't I have 2 since Brendan gets one? It's my BIRTHDAY!" She is glowing red and furious.
Birch walks over and puts his hand on her head, "because he is our guest and it is tradition. Just because he had made a friend before he gets his initial starter just means he made a new friend." He walks over to the table and opens up a brown briefcase with three Pokéballs sitting inside. "The one on the left is a Mudkip, he has always been a good strong water type, with a powerful defense, and very loyal, one of the very few to end his evolutionary line with ground and water. The middle one is Treecko, she was found loafing about in a tree out by the pond one morning while I was out doing my studies. A brass attitude and a strong will mixed with great offensive power and a fierce competitor." The last Pokéball is very rough looking with deep cuts, dents, and burns all over the ball. The red has worn almost completely off and the white has been charred to a permanent grey. "The last one is a Torchic. His old trainer was a really bad egg, a rotten berry, a real lowlife, and he was physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive along with neglective to this poor little Torchic. He's missing a feather on his head, he has a scar on the left side of his face that starts above the eyebrow and cuts through the eye to the cheekbone. But it luckily didn’t affect the eyesight at all. He's also the only Torchic I've ever seen to favor his left more than the right, and use electric attacks. If I didn't know any better I'd say that he is left handed. So birthday girl we will let you go first."
She wastes no time with her answer, "I want the Mudkip, and I'm gonna open my presents with it, and I'm going to name him Mipai! I'm so excited!" She scrambles over, grabs the left most ball, and excitedly throws it on the ground causing a pink mudkip to out and sparkle. "Oh my Arceus! It's so cute!!! So Mipai, you wanna help me open my presents?!" The Mudkip squeaks with a big smile on its face. She clumsily warbles over to the table holding about 8 gifts, then she starts tearing off paper and opening bags.
Birch looks at me and Brendan, "so which of you will go next?"
Brendan looks at Birch and then at me and says, "if you don't mind Viper I'm gonna take the Treecko, I've always loved a good grass type and I think we match personalities fairly well." He walks over, grabs the middle ball, and tosses it out. A dark green treecko pops out and it has a red tail! Of all things, I've never seen a treecko with a red tail. He looks down at his new friend and says, "I like you just the way you are. I'm just gonna call you Treecko for now ok?" It nods its head, pulls its red tail around, and starts fidgeting.
Birch looks and me and grabs the last ball, "looks like you get this Torchic. But please be patient with him. He's been through a lot of hurt and may take some time to warm up to you. But I believe if you treat him with love and respect like I saw last night with the wild ones, I think he will make a perfect partner for you." He tosses the ball to me, but I am unable get a good grip on the ball and drop it. It opens up and the Torchic pops out with his feathers ruffled. He fit the description that Birch made perfectly. You can see the pain in his eyes, he looks terrified and curious at the same time. The Pokéball makes a sharp crackling noise, sparks wildly, then explodes in a digital fireworks show, and starts cracking all over the surface. It rocks slightly and starts pulsing red, then it shatters into thousands of tiny pieces. Birch looks at me and then at the Torchic with a shocked look on his face. "Oh no...that's not good." His wife and daughter both look like they had just experienced death, I look over at Brendan and his mom and they have the same expression. I look up at Birch with a confused look on my face, he says, "whenever a Pokémon's ball breaks, it's basically as if you had released them back into the wild, but you can't 're-catch' a Pokémon who’s ball has been broken. They designed the balls in such a way that it codes the Pokémon specifically to that Pokéball, that way it keeps thieves from stealing people's Pokémon with other balls. So what I'm saying is, now that Torchic will never be able to go into a Pokéball ever again, it may be impossible to train him correctly and have him obey you, even with the correct gym badges,” he informs me, and I look at the torchic holding my hand out in a courteous manner of friendship. His face turns to worry and then to fear as it explodes into an inferno with bright blue flames going everywhere. I reach my hand out further into the fiery forge and put my hand on his head, then I pull him to me hugging him softly just enough to show him that I mean no harm. The flames are burning me pretty badly, it starts to singe my long unkempt black hair, and the immense physical and emotional pain I feel is his own. I can sense all of the t*****e and a***e from his previous trainer. I call out to him with a name that I feel was his beyond the thought of reason or any given excuse. It just comes to me like a whisper, "Hinoté!!!" I scream, and the flames die down to a cinder in his eyes as he looks up to me with tears in his eyes that are steaming away as they fall down his cheek. "It's going to be ok. I'll never let anything happen to you, I promise with all my heart, we will grow strong together, as good friends do!" I say causing Loomy to pop out of the bag, and she runs down my arm to greet our new partner, Hinote shies away and runs around me hiding behind my back, "maybe he's not ready to make friends yet Loomy," I smile at it, "we gotta give him some time to get used to us." I reach out my arm and loomy runs back up my arm with a scowl on its face and grumpily hops back into the bag, and Hinoté runs back around to the front of me. I look up at Birch and ask, "is loomy a female or male? Or can you tell?"
He looks over my shoulder and loomy pops out and back in, "that one there is a female Shroomish. With a sassy nature,” he informs me.
I tilt my head, and raise an eyebrow in curiosity, “Nature? Like personality?” I ask, to which he nods yes, “oh that’s neat, what about Hinoté?”
He looks a bit confused for a moment, then finally he pulls out a handheld computer looking device and does quite a bit of typing. After a few moments he takes a deep breath and lets out a sigh, “this is quite the rare predicament we have her with this Torchic. Normally natures have a positive and negative affect on the Pokémon, or no effect all. For example, what I thought Torchic was in the beginning when I first gave him to his previous trainer he was Adamant, which is a higher physical attack attribute and a lower special attack. But according to what I’m seeing and even with the IntraDex here, he’s got a double nature. He’s Adamant still, but is also Jolly, which is very unusual and quite unique. Jolly increases the Speed while lowering the special attack. And for a blaziken these two are perfect for him because he’s a physical speed brawler, and has the Speed Boost ability, which increases his speed after every attack. And lastly, he has developed the electric type with his natural fire type, which is truly something of a unique rarity, like his strange coloring…because it doesn’t even match the shiny version. With all this excitement he’s been through, he’s looking a bit weathered, we should go inside and get him some rest. It looks like you missed out on some sleep too. I'll get it dark in the lab, enough to where you all 3 can get some good sleep."
I offer my arms wide open to Hinoté hoping he will let me carry him inside. He walks slowly towards me and I bring my hands together slowly as to try not to scare him in any way. He watches me very cautiously with a slight look of fear and distrust in his eyes so I stop and put both of my hands on the ground face up. He walks over to my left hand and sniffs it.
“Hee hee chic... Tor tor, chi torch... Hee hee no no tay tay...” It looks at me while calmly talking.
“Did you understand what he said?” I look at birch and he shakes his head no. Then Brendan taps my shoulder, “Hey Viper, I heard from some expert trainers from Kanto that once you form a strong bond with your Pokémon you start to understand their words. But it’s only you and it isn’t like we are talking now, but you can understand what they are saying. So until that time, you kind of have to read body language, and circumstances to have any luck of understanding them right away.”
I look back to Hinoté and lift my left hand trying to rub him on the top of the head. At the feel of my gentle touch he flinches, and then slowly rises back up to my hand and rubs his head against it. I smile and gently rub my hand along his feathers. Then I put my hand underneath him and he sits down gently while watching me. I pick him up and cradle him into my arms, then I stand up and turn towards the front of the lab. I carry Hinote following Birch into the lab, then I make my way over to the bed, lay Hinote down on the second pillow, and put my bag down beside the bed. I grab loomy out and lay down next to Hinote, but before I can even get comfortable I pass out.
Birch had really worried about the pokéball breaking earlier that day and was concerned on, if Torchic would stay with Viper, through and through, without having a Pokéball to stay in.
He wakes me up in a frantic panic. "Viper, viper, VIPER! I need you to grab your things and get up there are some rough looking people outside causing a fuss. They've taken mudkip and treecko, and they've taken Honey's alakazam and Glinda’s machamp. Please help me. Please get up. I got you some new clothes to wear, I noticed you liked black, blue, and white. They're on the counter past the healing station." He storms out the door clutching 2 pokéballs in his hand and takes a hard left as he shoots through the door. I get up and notice someone removed the burned clothes and threw them in the trash. I put Loomy in her Pokéball and set Hinoté in the glass chamber connected to the healing machine. I look around for the start button to press and find a glowing green button that says heal, “really? That easy?” I press it, then a light comes on and shines on the chamber flashing red three times then flashes green once. The chamber opens and I grab Hinote, who is still asleep, and run out the door. I look to the left to see two people dressed in black. One has blue accents and the other has green accents. They both have a cowl and a balaclava with goggles. A tight zip up jacket with the accented sash around the waist. Tight fitting pants with long socks and sandals on their feet, and I think, “ninjas? Really?” Then I hear a muffled voice, but all I can hear is..."alright. We are here to steal your...” They tilt their heads in unison, “Wait…is that Torchic permanently damaged, like missing a feather and has a scar? And what's up with the odd colored shroomish? It’s not a shiny and it doesn't look right. Yeah I don't think we want your stupid, sick looking Pokémon, I think we will just leave."
Birch throws his Pokéballs out and yells, "you're not going anywhere until you give back those Pokémon! Go Smeargle and Gardevoir!" The two Pokémon pop out of their balls and roar at the two people. Birch crosses his arms with a grimacing smirk on his face. The two people throw out two Pokéballs a piece and four Pokémon popout, it is the four Pokémon that they stole, but their eyes are black. Birchs face turns instantly to doom and worry. He sticks out his Pokéballs and returns his two Pokémon. "I can't fight them. They're my friends." His face turns sad all of a sudden and he walks away with his head down. I look around and everyone looks worried, then I hear a sweet voice almost as high as a whistle in the distance. I look in the direction of the sound and see a green flash of light that swoops in and makes a beautiful song type noise as if it were singing. It vanishes just as it came in a green flash. The Pokémon’s eyes turn back to normal as everyone gains a determined look on their faces and the Pokémon turn around as they all four get into a fighting pose and roar at the two people.
The two look defensive all of a sudden, "you got lucky this time you little punks! But next time you won’t know what hit you, we will be back, so next time just stay out of our way. We are Underhade!”
They vanish in a cloud of smoke and everyone goes to their Pokémon to make sure they are safe, and I feel a feeling of nostalgia as I take in what just happened. It was like a familiar friend had stopped by to say hello and help. I cannot help but think “was that her? Was that my friend from the past?” I look over at Birch and he is looking up at the sky with a thankful smile on his face. He looks down at me, gives me a gleeful smile with his eyes closed, and holds two fingers up.
“It's a good thing she showed up when she did. I don't think we could've won that battle. It was merely a 'flash' of good luck,” he laughs hardily, “why don't you kids have a friendly battle? It would be good to see what your Pokémon are capable of. You have 2 Pokémon viper, so why not have a double battle with May and Brendan?" He suggests, and I look at them both, then they nod their heads together in unison. They both stand up as their Pokémon get ready, I walk over to the open space, Loomy jumps out of my bag, Hinoté slowly walks over beside Loomy and steps a couple of feet away from her. I whisper, "Loomy I need you to use a grass move on Mudkip if you have one please. Hinoté I need you to do the same fire thing you did earlier on treecko if you can but if you can’t it’s cool, we will try something different," I give them their orders and look up at May and Brendan.
"I hope you're ready to go Viper here we come!" May says, then Mudkip and Treecko take off at full sprint. Loomy has a determined focus look in her eyes as she jumps up and spins around spreading razor sharp leaves across the battlefield, then grabs four of them in the air and slams down on Mudkip slicing him with the leaves. Mudkip falls backwards with X's on his eyes. Treecko darts over to Hinote and slams into him with full force knocking him back a few feet, then he gets up as I look straight into his eyes, I know he can feel my thoughts and focus towards him. He stands up as his eyes start flaming, explodes into an amazing rush of flames, and rockets towards treecko with such speed that a blink of an eye would miss it completely. I take out the handheld computer that is in my bag and point at Hinoté in hopes of learning what that move is called. The device blinks rapidly and chimes, “This move is learned by very rare and unique blazikens at a very high level. It takes years of intense training to achieve this ultimate move because it has no drawbacks there are many trainers who drive their blazikens to death in the pursuit of this move. It is called the Blazing Falcon…”
