Chapter 9

Updated  Leah’s P.O.V   Mom and I sat in the same position for a few minutes while I tried to process what she had just told me, but it was a huge thing. I had a million and one questions running through my head, but the one that kept coming to me was why didn’t he act like my mate? As soon as Jersey and the other guy smelled their mates they went straight to them, but Alpha Kodi didn’t, he just stood there like I wasn’t his mate. Alpha’s were known for being even more possessive with their mates, claiming them straight away, but he didn’t. Does that mean he doesn’t want me? Is he going to reject me? Why can’t I tell that he’s my mate? I could feel myself starting to panic, so I knew I had to get answers before coming to either the wrong or right conclusion.   “My mate? He’s my mate? What do you mean my mate? How come I can’t smell his scent? Why hasn’t he tried to come near me, like how Jersey and the other guy did? Is he going to reject me, is that why he doesn’t seem bothered? How do you know he’s my mate?” I asked, reeling off the more important questions I had going through my mind.   “Leah, calm down honey, you need to breathe and calm down before you pass out. He hasn’t acted like the other two because you’re not eighteen yet, he’s being respectful. He isn’t going to reject you, in fact he called your dad and talked to him before coming here. The reason you can’t smell his scent yet is also because you haven’t shifted into your wolf, but don’t worry because as soon as you do you will know straight away that he is your mate. I wasn’t supposed to tell you, you were supposed to find out on your own, but you seemed so freaked out and when you said you were going to stay away from him I knew I had to tell you something.” My mom said, explaining everything to me and calming me down.   “Do you think I should go and talk to him?” I asked, feeling very nervous.   “Only if you want to, but I’m sure he’s eager to talk to you.” Mom replied and I sighed, knowing she was right. I got off the bed and smiled as I thought about how respectful he was actually being to me and the bond we would have.   “I’ll go talk to him. Besides, he’s hot, mom.” I said and mom started laughing as we headed to the door. We made our way to the family room and my eyes quickly found Kodi, sitting in the chair with the group and dad around him. I walked over to him and stopped in front of him, then held my hand out.   “You want to take a walk?” I asked, hoping he would say yes.   Kodi’s P.O.V   I was worried about Leah and how she ran out of here, but I couldn’t show any emotions or even go after her because she had no idea that I was her mate. I took a seat and decided to try and take my mind off everything by talking to the others. I was really happy that Lisa had found her mate, especially as she wasn’t just a cousin to me, she was more like a sister. We had grown up together and shared everything. I was talking to Jersey and getting to know him a bit better when Leah walked back into the family room. Her scent seemed to surround me and when I looked up at her she was standing in front of me, smiling.   “You want to take a walk?” She asked, holding her hand out to me. I didn’t need to be asked twice as I quickly stood up from the chair and took her hand in mine. I felt the sparks fly up my arm and I hoped that she somehow felt it too. We left the family room and went outside, but we didn’t go too far and sat on the white swinging chair on the front porch.   “So, my mom told me that we’re mates. Sorry, but she had to in order to calm me down and stop me from doing something stupid.” Leah said, surprising me.   “What were you going to do that was stupid?” I asked, curious to know what could have made Luna Carla tell her.   “I feel some kind of pull towards you, like I want to be close to you, but before I couldn’t work those feelings out, so I was going to stay away from you until I either figured them out or had them under control. I also wanted to apologise for running out of the room earlier, my wolf broke through and with the feelings I was having I just got scared and didn’t know what to do, but my mom explained everything to me and calmed me down. My wolf Ashy is a little confused, but she says she feels the pull as well. We both agree that we should wait until I have shifted to see if we truly are mates.” Leah said, explaining everything. I was going to give Luna Carla the biggest thank you when I saw her again, she had saved me from losing my mate. I don’t know what me or my wolf would have done if she’d avoided us like the plague until her birthday and first shift.   “I understand, you know the first time I saw you was actually at your mothers last fight. I didn’t know who you were and you were clinging to a man, which made my heart hurt when I saw that, but then I saw it was Alpha Brandon. I quickly realised that you were his daughter and I wanted nothing more than to claim you there and then, but you made no move to show that you sensed me. I realised that you hadn’t shifted yet, so I decided not to approach you or it would have scared you. I wanted so much to hold you, kiss you and mark you, but instead I left and the next day I called your dad. I told him you were my mate and that's the reason I’m here now, he invited me to your birthday s***h shifting party.” I said, hoping she would understand how careful I have been to respect her.   “Yeah, you’re right, it would have scared me and my dad would have got all aggressive and angry, then my mother would have jumped in, which would have made it one big argument. I think I saw you leave though, well, part of you. I saw your arm as you left.” Leah replied, making me smirk.   “Yeah, that was me running like a scared rat.” I said and we both started laughing.   “Well I’m glad you're here, come on, we should head inside or they will probably think we have run off.” Leah said, smiling and taking my hand again.    Unknown’s P.O.V   I watched as they walked back into the house, but thankfully they didn’t see me behind the nearest tree to the pack house watching them. I can’t believe how much she has grown, but who is the guy that is with her? She’s mine, no one else's, she is mine and only mine. The second she shifts I will make her mine and no one will stop me, I thought as I pushed away from the tree and turned to leave, not wanting to be caught before I got my prize.   Gabi’s P.O.V   I had been on the road for a few days now, only stopping to shower, sleep and feed when the blood lust came over me, but the whole time I had been on the move Lizzie had been trying to connect with me. I felt the second my mate was killed by the new Alpha and although I felt the pain of the bond between us being severed, I felt nothing else. No sympathy, no heartbreak, not even sadness at losing my mate.    “Gabi, you need to come back, he’s going from room to room, searching for you. He knows you're gone, he can sense a member missing from the clan and he wants you back here.” Lizzie said, linking me yet again, but this time I blocked the link. Lizzie was still able to link me, which meant that I still needed to get further away from the clan. I needed to be out of the reach of the link or the new Alpha would still be able to sense me and find me, which was the last thing I wanted. I grabbed my bags and ran back into the woods, but then the thirst hit me and I needed to feed fast. I tossed my bags on the ground and stood still, listening and getting a feel for everything moving and living around me, then I felt it. I shot off in the direction I sensed it and came across a female deer. I quickly feasted on it, getting my fill and then let her go, knowing that she would be fine as I didn’t drink enough to kill her. I grabbed my bags and started to run once more, cursing Carla and the fact she didn’t live closer to me. I needed to get to her, to make sure she was happy, that she was safe and that she was alive.    “Maybe, oh screw it….” I said, coming to a halt. I dropped my bags on the ground again and took the piece of paper and my cell phone. The elf-lady at the motel helped me find the phone number I needed, but the paper was a little wet due to my sweat when I was running. I could just about make the number out, so I typed it into my phone and then clicked send. I listened to it ringing and hoped it was the right number. Would she pick it up? Would she believe it was me? I truly hope so or this is going to make things harder.
