Chapter 10
Carla’s P.O.V
It had been a really long day filled with excitement and many revelations, but now I was tired. I was just on my way to our bedroom when I heard my cell phone start to ring. Who the hell could be calling me at this time of the night? I looked at the clock and saw that it was two in the morning. For crying out loud! I walked over to where I had left it and didn’t recognise the number, so I wasn’t going to answer it. I went to reject the call, but there was something inside of me that kept screaming at me to answer it and my wolf was whimpering. What the hell is going on? I thought, answering the phone before the caller hung up.
“Hello, its two in the f*****g morning, so this had better be good. I was just about to go to bed.” I said, feeling annoyed, but then I heard the voice of the caller.
“Hello….” A woman’s voice came through the phone, shocking me. It was a voice that I haven’t heard for years and it was one that I thought I would never hear again. I thought she was dead.
“Gabi, is...is that really you?” I asked, needing to be sure that I had heard right.
Gabi’s P.O.V
I was about to click on the end button when suddenly I heard her voice and she sounded really cranky.
“Hello, its two in the f*****g morning, so this had better be good. I was just about to go to bed.” She said and I sighed.
“Hello….” I said, taking a deep breath, but then I stopped. What if she doesn’t believe it's me? What if she thinks I’m lying?
“Gabi, is...is that really you?” Carla asked, shocking me. Maybe she would believe me, well, it's a risk I’m willing to take.
“Carla, is that really you? Yes, it’s Gabi. I know you thought I was dead, but I wasn’t. I mean I’m not, well, not technically, I’m a vampire. I saw you being pulled out of the room I was in by some guy, but I couldn’t call out to you as I was being changed by my so-called mate. I know you might think I’m trying to mess with your head, but I promise it’s me, it’s really me, Carla.” I replied, hoping she would believe that it was really me. The line was silent for a few minutes and all I could hear was the sound of her breathing.
“Gabi, oh my Goddess, Gabi. I can’t believe it. Yeah, that was my mate’s Beta pulling me out of there. He said you would either be drained and die or you would be changed. I wanted to save you, but he wouldn’t let me, he said that you wouldn’t be the same person if you were turned. I am so sorry I left you, but I didn’t have a choice. What happened after you were changed?” Carla asked, sounding a little sad, but I didn’t blame her, I could never blame her for something that wasn’t in her control.
“No, it’s okay, Carla, but your mate’s Beta was right, I’m not the same person as before. My mate was a horrible man and he was the Alpha of our clan, so I left him and ran from the clan. He died a few days ago, killed by the new Alpha. I have been on the run ever since, not wanting to go through the same thing I was put through all over again. I managed to find your address and then a she-elf helped me find your phone number. I have been running for over a week now. I am on my way to you and I’ll be there in about a week, sooner if I can catch a ride. Maybe I can compel someone to give me a ride, who knows.” I said and heard as Carla took in a deep, sharp breath. Didn’t she want me to come see her? Did she want me to keep my distance because I was now a vampire?
“Gabi, hurry up and get here, I’ll be waiting. I’ll get Brandon and the workers to build you a house near us so you can have your own place to sleep and do whatever you want. There will be rules and you will have to follow them, but we can talk about them another time, just get here. I’ll explain everything to Brandon before you get here. I promise you will never have to go through any of that again, never. Gabi, just get here anyway you can and be safe doing it, okay.” Carla replied, stunning me. I thought she would either want nothing to do with me or we would have a quick chat, catching up and then she would send me on her way, but instead she was offering to build me a house to keep me close.
“Really? Oh wow, thank you so much. Don’t worry, Carla, I’ll get there even if I have to compel someone, I’ll get there.” I said and hung up the phone. I jammed the phone back in my pocket, along with the piece of paper and then started running again, but this time I was so much happier. Carla was alive, she was alive and well, but she still wanted me as her friend as well, it was incredible.
Alpha Alec’s (the new Alpha of the vampire clan) P.O.V
Damn it! I could smell her scent everywhere, it was driving me crazy and I knew right away that she was my mate, but then everyone told me how the old Alpha, who was also her mate, treated her and it sickened me. He treated her like s**t, as if she were his property, he beat her, cheated on her and for that he had to be taught a lesson, so I killed him with my bare hands. I didn’t know she was my mate until I moved to the previous Alpha’s place and caught her scent. It was heavenly to me and although I searched everywhere for her, I could never find her. This clan was a complete and utter shambles and the previous Alpha had no clue as to what he was doing. All he did was sleep with every female here and he was a man w***e, but I had to literally force a female off me because she thought I was the same and would do the same as he did. Yeah, sure, I have urges, but the only one I would even allow to ease those urges are my mate and vice versa. I needed to find her, I needed to claim her as mine and keep her safe, it was the only way. I wanted and needed my mate, so I called for Lizzy and Clyde.
“Do you have any idea where she might have gone? I need her back here, Clyde. Lizzy, you were close to her, did she ever talk about anyone from her past? Has she tried contacting you? Did she even tell you she was leaving?” I asked, looking at them both.
“No, Alpha Alec, she didn’t tell me anything and I have been linking her, but she never replies. I told her that Alpha Eric was killed by your hand and that you were looking for her, but the next thing I knew she was gone and had blocked the link.” Lizzy replied and I sighed, trying to think of anything else that would help find her or at least point us in the right direction.
“Lizzy, did she ever have any friends or talk about anyone from her past?” I asked and Lizzy looked like she was deep in thought, but then her eyes lit up, as if a lightbulb had gone off in her head.
“Actually yes, Alpha Alec, she often talked about a woman named Carla or Carol. They were both sent off to the same auction house, bid on and then sold to the highest bidder, but they became somewhat close before that in the short time before that happened. I think her name was Carla, yes, that’s right her name was Carla Rufus.” Lizzy replied, giving me hope that I could find her
