Chapter 3

Updated  Leah’s P.O.V   I was up before my alarm even went off and quickly hurried to the bathroom to do my business, take a shower and dry off before coming back into the bedroom to get dressed. I put on my baby blue button up shirt, ripped jeans and decided to wear my ankle boots today. The past few days I had been really excited, but also nervous about my birthday next week because not only would I be able to find my mate, I would shift for the first time, but I still had yet to hear my wolf, which was a little worrying. I hadn’t told anyone I was worried about it because I knew they would say it was natural, but even so I would only be at ease when I heard her voice in my head. I brushed my long brown hair, letting it fall over my shoulders and then put a little eyeshadow and eyeliner on to bring out my green-hazel eyes, then I was done. I grabbed my backpack and headed downstairs, as my boots clicked the whole way down to the bottom and into the kitchen where mom and dad were.   “So, what time are we leaving tonight? I’ll be home straight after school, but I want to make sure I’m ready on time.” I asked, but they both sighed. I knew they were still wary about me watching mom fight, but we made a deal, so surely they wouldn’t go back on it, would they?   “We’re leaving around six, so make sure you're home and ready.” Dad replied and I nodded.   “Okay great, well, I’m off to school.” I said, grabbing an apple and walking out the kitchen to the front door.   “Be careful honey, we can replace the Jeep, but we can’t replace you. We love you.” Mom and dad said together, making my heart melt.    “I love you both too, see you when I get home.” I replied, walking out the front door and to the garage. I got into my jeep and drove off, but for some reason I felt like someone was watching me as I left for school today and I could have sworn I saw something in the woods, but maybe it was just my mind playing tricks on me because of how fast I was driving.   Carla’s P.O.V   I watched Leah drive off and then turned to face Brandon, when I felt him coming up behind me. I knew he was just as worried as I was, but he would never say anything until I did.   “Do you really think it's going to be okay when she comes with us tonight? She has never seen me fight like this before and it might scare her too much. She might not just be scared for her life when she watches me fight, but it may also make her scared of me and I don’t want that, but I can’t go easy on my opponent either.” I asked, but Brandon shook his head.   “I honestly don’t know, but there are two things I know for sure. The first sign of her getting scared and I’m getting her out of there so fast she won’t know what's happening and two she would and could never be scared of you. She’s a strong girl, Carla, just like you and she loves you more than anything, not as much as me, but still a lot, so let's have some faith in her.” Brandon said, making me chuckle when he compared her love for us.    “Yeah, you’re right, well not that our daughter loves you more than me, but you’re right about everything else. Right, I’m going to go to the gym to train for a few hours.” I said and Brandon held his hand over his heart, feigning hurt at my comment and making me laugh even more. We walked back into the house, laughing and pushing each other as we did so. I swear sometimes I think Brandon and I are the biggest kids here.   Leah’s P.O.V   I pulled up at school ten minutes later and parked my jeep, getting out, but before I could even lock the doors and turn around I heard screaming. I quickly turned to see who was being attacked, but there wasn’t anyone being attacked, it was my friends and they were running towards me. Jasmine, Courtney, Lauren, Sara, Jersey and Bronx were running towards me as if their feet were on fire and I had the only bucket of water.   “What’s up, guys?” I asked, laughing as Jersey and Bronx looked around my jeep and gave a few whistles at it. The girls were eyeing it up too, but they were still standing in front of me, instead of inspecting it like the guys.   “Did you get this for your birthday?” Sara asked and I quickly nodded.   “Yeah, mom and dad gave it to me as an early present, isn’t it beautiful? I’ll be able to drive us to the beach this weekend.” I replied, but before I could say another word the bell for the start of class rang out.   “s**t, come on, we better get to class. Just because todays the last day I don’t think they would like it if we’re late.” Jasmine said and we all nodded in agreement. Today was the last day of school and then the start of our summer vacation, but that wouldn’t stop the teachers from handing out detention if we were late, so we all hurried to class. Thankfully the school day wasn’t going to last as long as it usually did, as it was only a half day, but I was shocked to see that most of the teachers hadn’t bothered showing up. When school was over my friends and I all piled into my Jeep and I gave them all a lift home, seeing as we all lived on the same territory. I was blasting the radio all the way home and we were all singing to everything that came on, which made us all laugh, especially when the guys sang so out of tune we had to cover our ears. When we got home I waved them all off and told them I would see them later, then headed inside. Mom was in the living room, relaxing before we left for her fight.   “Hey mom, I’m home. I’m going to take a shower then get ready.” I said, hanging my keys up.   “Leah, come in here, let’s talk.” Mom replied and I nodded, going into the living room and sitting down on the light blue loveseat.   “Is something wrong, mom?” I asked, worried I was in trouble.   “No sweetie, I just want to make sure that this is what you really want. I know you have watched me train with Eppes and a few other pack members, but this is going to be a lot different and I don’t want you to be scared or think that you can’t leave when you want to. Sometimes the fights can be really bad and I get hurt.” Mom said and I sighed. I knew she was worried about me and I knew it would be different, but I have wanted this for ages.   “Mom, I'll be alright, plus dad said that if I get too scared or don’t think I can handle it that he would pull me out of there fast. I’ll be fine, I promise.” I replied and she nodded.   “I’m just making sure, honey, that’s all.” Mom said and I nodded, getting up and hugging her.   “I know, but I’ll be okay. Right, I’m going to get in the shower. I want to be ready so you don’t have to wait on me.” I replied and she nodded. I hurried out of the living room and went straight to my bedroom, going right into the bathroom. I took a quick shower, dried off and walked to my closet to decide what to wear. I had never been to a fight before, so I had no idea if there was a certain dress code or not, but just in case I wanted to be dressed smart, but casual, so I decided on  a pair of light blue jeans, plus a red pull over shirt. I didn’t want to wear nice shoes because I didn’t know how bloody or dirty the floor would be, so I decided on a pair of old tennis shoes that still looked alright. I brushed my hair and put it into a high ponytail, then I was done. I looked at the time and it was already five thirty, so I ran downstairs to see mom putting her fighting gear into her backpack, while dad was sitting in the chair, relaxing. To everyone else he always looked so calm when mom had a fight, but mom and I knew better and could tell when he was on edge, but we never spoke about it or it would make mom on edge too and that could cause her to be hurt.   “I see you're ready and waiting to go, but just remember what I said. If you can’t handle it then tell me straight away and I will get you out of there, okay?” Dad said, reminding me for what felt like the hundredth time.   “Yes dad, I understand and I will.” I replied, but he looked like he had more to say.   “And the rules for tonight are as follows, you stay by me at all times, no wandering around. No talking to anyone there, unless I say it's okay. Is that clear?” Dad asked and I rolled my eyes, but nodded.   “Yes dad, I completely understand.” I replied, playfully saluting him and making him roll his eyes as mom laughed at us.   “Alright, let's get going, we have a few hours drive ahead of us.” Dad said, as we all headed outside and got into the black SUV. Mom threw her bag on the back seat next to me, then we drove off to head to where the fight was being held, which was Tennessee this time. It was only a few hours drive, but I knew that mom and dad always liked to get there either early or on time, but never late.   Gabi’s P.O.V   I must have slept for a fair few hours because I felt really rested, but also it was nearly the afternoon when I woke up. I knew I needed to head back out and start on my journey again, so I took a shower, got dressed and returned the key to the front desk. The lady behind the desk looked a little shocked when she saw me, but I had no idea why. Did I have something on my face?   “Miss Gabi, I honestly thought you had already checked out a day ago, you said you just wanted to rest for a few hours.” The lady said, confusing me, but then she showed me the date. Holy crap, I can’t believe it, I slept the whole day, night and into the next one.    “I’m so sorry, how much do I owe you for the overnight?” I asked, taking out the money I had, but she shook her head.   “No, no, it's okay, besides I own this motel, so it’s fine. You looked like you needed the rest, so no worries, besides vampires don’t normally visit here often.” The lady replied, making me even more shocked than before. How did she know what I am or was she just taking a guess?   “You know what I am?” I asked, needing to clarify.   “Of course I do, but don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. Besides, I’m an elf and the only reason no one notices is because my long hair covers my ears.” She replied, pulling back her hair to reveal her ears.    “Thank you. I need to get going now.” I said, still in a state of shock. The lady or rather elf smiled at me and then waved me off, as I walked out the double doors, heading back on the road to start my journey again.
