Carla’s P.O.V
We had finally got to Tennessee, but I was a little stiff from sitting down this long. I know I’m the one who wants to fight, but I wish Brandon would at least find fights closer to home for me. It’s okay though because I loved the view when we were driving here and getting to spend time with just my mate and daughter. Leah was currently asleep in the back seat, but as soon as she thought we had arrived she woke up and sat upright in her seat, looking through the window and then around the car.
“Are we in Tennessee yet?” Leah asked, wiping the sleep from her eyes.
“Yep, we’re almost at the site we need to be at. They said it would look like an abandoned warehouse, but it would have writing on the front of the walls. The address is 2100 Wolf road.” Brandon replied, making us all laugh. Wolf road, coincidence or what? We kept an eye out for the road sign Wolf Road and still laughed whenever it was said out loud, due to all three of us being werewolves, but after thirty minutes of driving we found it. We turned down the road and followed it round until we drove up to an abandoned warehouse, just like Brandon had been informed. It had writing on the front of the walls, but I couldn’t make out what it was meant to say. We parked the car up and I watched as Brandon looked around, recognising a few of the others there from other fights, but there were also a lot that neither of us knew and that put us on guard as we looked straight at Leah.
“Stay between your mother and I, we’re going to walk over to that sign in post and they will tell us where your mothers locker room is.” Brandon said as he and I stood either side of Leah and she nodded. We walked over and signed in, but the guard on the door looked like he was on steroids with how his muscles were bulging in an unhealthy way.
“Your locker room is two doors down on the left, here's the key. When your name is called you have three minutes to come out or you will be disqualified and lose the fight and the money.” The guard said, handing me the key and I nodded. We walked past the guard to my locker room, but the whole time Brandon and I kept Leah between us, prepared for any threat that came along. I changed into my fighting gear and Brandon then taped up my hands, while Leah watched us and looked around the room. I started to warm up, but kept an eye on Leah as she looked around the room. The room didn’t bother me because I was used to it, but it might be a bit too much for Leah, especially the dried up blood on the floor from previous fights and the whole place smelled of sweat, dust, dirt and blood.
“Hey mom, Auntie Tamina’s on here.” Leah said, pointing to the pictures of previous fighters on the walls. I nodded and smiled, remembering the fight I had with Tamina. She was so tough, but after I won we became friends and she was around when Leah was a child, hence why she called her Auntie. She was a huge part of our lives, but had been fighting abroad for the past year, so we hadn’t seen her as much. I looked at the pictures on the walls and realised that I had fought most of them at some point, some of them were pretty, like Tamina and then there were others, who looked like they had been repeatedly beaten with an ugly stick, after all the fights they had endured.
“CARLA RUFUS!!” My name was announced through the speaker in the room, making Leah jump at the sudden noise. I looked over at her, making sure she was still okay to watch this and she just rolled her eyes at me.
“Mom, I’ll be okay, now let's get out there before you lose before you have even started the fight.” Leah said and I quickly nodded. We all walked out of the locker room and down the hallway, turning right and through the double doors at the end.
“Good luck, mom.” Leah whispered, hugging me as she and Brandon took their seats in the crowd. I walked into the middle of the fighting ring, which I was glad to say was an actual ring this time. I stood there waiting as they called out the other woman’s name, then waited for her to come out and get into the ring. Pamela came out through the same doors I did and then got into the ring, but instead of standing and waiting for the announcer to begin the fight, she walked over to me and stood right in front of me.
“Back up, b***h. I don’t get intimidated, so if I was you I would take two steps back.” I whispered, smiling up at her, but all Pamela did was smirk and stay where she was. A man I recognised as the announcer from a previous fight I had walked into the ring and stood between Pamela and I.
“The rules are there are no rules, you fight until you can't fight anymore. Are the fighters ready?” The man asked and we both nodded.
“Three...two....one….FIGHT!!” The man announced, raising his hands in the air and then slamming them down to begin the fight. He hurried out of the ring before he got knocked down as Pamela swung at me first, but with no such luck as I swung my leg back and side stepped her, making her stumble as she missed me. I was ready and waiting for this woman, watching her hands and legs, the way she moved and how she held herself. Pamela walked back up to me and I thought she was going to throw a punch, but instead she tricked me and kicked my leg, tripping me and making me fall on the ground. Pamela quickly got on top of me, throwing punches left, right and centre at my head and my sides, but this only served to piss me off. I raised my knee hard and quickly, kneeing her in the middle of her back and forcing her off me. We both got back up off the floor at the same time, but I reacted first and swung, punching Pamela in the face and crushing her nose against my fist. Everyone heard the crunch as her nose broke and then heard the crunching noises as she put it back in place. I swung and punched again, catching ehr off guard, but this time I also knocked a few teeth out of her mouth in the process, causing the blood to drip from her nose and mouth, down her chin.
Leah’s P.O.V
I was watching my mom fighting and what her opponent was doing and I was fine, but my eyes went huge when I heard the crunch of Pamela’s nose as it broke. I hid my face in dad's arm and he held me close.
“Are you okay? Do you want to leave?” Dad whispered, but I shook my head.
“No, I’m okay, just the crunching noise scared me a little, that's all, but I promise I’m okay.” I replied and he nodded, as he rubbed my arm. I turned back to the ring and carried on watching the rest of the fight, silently cheering mom on every inch of the way.
