Chapter 11

Alpha Alec’s P.O.V

  I listened as Lizzy told me everything she knew, but the name Carla Rufus sounded so familiar to me and then it suddenly clicked as to where I had heard it before. She was a Luna fighter, her husband and mate was Alpha Brandon. I knew exactly where they lived, but if that was where Gabi was heading then she already had a head start of a week.

  “Lizzy, Clyde, listen, you two are in charge until I get back. Clyde, you are my Beta now, so keep control of this clan. Lizzy, I want you to do everything you can and redecorate this place, make it look like a home and not a slaughterhouse.” I said and they both nodded. I looked on the computer to find the directions and a phone number, then backed up.

  “I’ll be there before Gabi even gets there, I’ll be back and I’ll bring your Luna back with me.” I said, getting up from behind my desk and hurrying out of the office to make a phone call. I dialled the number and listened to it ringing a few times before it finally answered.

  “Alpha Brandon, my friend. You’re going to be having a guest come to you and her name is Gabi, she knows your mate Carla and should have contacted her by now. She is running because she thinks that I will be just like her old Alpha, who was her mate and is now dead, but she has no idea that I am her mate and that I’m not like him. Please, whatever you do, please don’t turn her away. I’ll be there soon, I promise.” I said, leaving a message on his voicemail. I hit the end call button and ran out of the house, going straight to my car and speeding off the clan territory. If I was right then Gabi had a week’s head start on me, but she was on foot and would be hiding and trying to rest where and when she could. 

  “Don’t worry, love. I’m coming.” I muttered to myself with determination, but then a thought crossed my mind, making me doubt myself. How can I convince her that I am nothing like that bastard Alpha Eric, especially after all the years he spent torturing her. I increased my speed, hoping to get there sooner and also hoping I could at least catch a glimpse of her as I grew closer. I thought I did once, but I really wasn’t sure, so I kept going, hoping I would at least get there before she did.

  Leah’s P.O.V

  Two days had gone by really fast and now today is my birthday and I was so excited, but also nervous as I would be shifting for the first time in a few hours. I hadn’t seen Kodi at all today, so tonight I would also find out if he was really my mate. I knew I had to start getting ready, so I ran a bath and put lilac and lavender in the tub, letting the bubbles build up as I stripped off my clothes and then got into the water.

  “I see you have already started.” Mom said, smiling as she walked into the bathroom. Mom took the milk she was holding and poured it into the tub, then she washed my hair with honey and silk.

  “You relax for a few more minutes and I’ll be right back, okay.” Mom said and I nodded, leaning back in the tub and relaxing. I closed my eyes to help relax as it was already late in the day and I knew that soon I would have to head outside.

  Brandon’s P.O.V

  I looked out my cell phone and saw that I had a new voicemail, but the number it was from was an old friend, Alec. He was an Alpha like me, but he was a vampire and I had heard that he had just taken control of a clan. I wonder why he’s calling me though because I don’t remember setting up a fight with him? I clicked on the button and listened to the message, shaking my head as I knew the s**t was about to hit the fan here. If this Gabi woman is an old friend of Carla’s, then Carla is going to want her to stay here, which means she is going to want me to build her a house on our territory. I hadn’t seen her today as she was asleep when I got to bed early this morning and was already in the gym training when I woke up, but since then I had been busy getting everything ready for Leah’s shift tonight. She never said anything yesterday to me either, so I wonder if she knew about Gabi or if she was keeping it from me. I was just about to mind-link Carla when she walked inside just as I was putting my phone down on the desk.

  “Come over here a second, love. I know you’re busy with Leah right now, but we need to have a talk.” I said and I could tell that she was nervous as I took a seat and she sat down on my lap.

  “Listen, I know Gabi is on her way here, Alec just left a message on my phone. I already know what's going to happen, so I’ll have the builders get to work on building her a house at the edge of the territory, but there are rules and you will have to explain them to her. The only question I have is why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, but then she sighed softly.

  “Brandon, to tell you the truth I forgot, I’m sorry, but it's been a couple of days since she called. Gabi is on her way here, but she is running from her new Alpha, she thinks he is going to be the same as the last one, who was also her mate and is now dead. Please, don’t turn her away, I owe her this much for not saving her before.” Carla said, confusing me. What did she mean not saving her before? What had happened that she needed saving and that Carla couldn’t save her? Was this when Carla left me or before then? Just how long has she known Gabi? I had a lot of questions running through my head, but the look on Carla’s face told me not to ask.

  “Carla, I’m not turning her away, like I said I’m going to get the builders to build her a house, honey. I’ll get them to start tonight, but Alec is going to want his mate. I promise he is nothing like Eric and trust me, I’ve met Eric and he was a real asshole. He always thought women were nothing but playthings for him to use and abuse. I’m glad he’s gone, but your friend is going to need you, Carla, so make sure you’re there for her.” I said, but obviously Carla had no idea about them being mates.

  “I will be, but I don’t know how I’m going to tell her that the new Alpha she is running from is actually her new mate. I have no idea how she is going to take that news or if she will accept him or not, but I hope she calls me soon, at least to let me know she’s okay. Right then, I need to get back up there before Leah thinks I have forgotten about her.” Carla said, wrapping her arms around me and softly kissing me. 

  Leah’s P.O.V

  When mom came back upstairs to me I had already gotten out of the tub and now had a towel wrapped around me, standing in my bedroom.

  “I’m sorry, sweetie, I was talking to your dad about something. Come on, let's finish getting you ready.” Mom said, walking over to my closet.

  “Is this what you’ll be wearing after you shift or for when you shift?” Mom asked, but I shook my head.

  “No, it's for after. I love that dress and don’t want to shred it.” I replied and mom nodded.

  “Okay, so how about for your shift we sort you out a pair of shorts and a top you don’t like, you can also wear flip flops because like you said if you wear anything nice it will be shredded when you shift.” Mom said, grabbing a pair of old shorts and an old white t-shirt. I dried myself off and put them on, while mom looked for shoes to go with the sundress. Once I was dressed my mom brushed my hair and let it fall over my shoulders as there was no point in drying it or putting it up when I was going to shift.

  “Leah, you are a beautiful young woman and I’m very proud of you. You have grown so much over the years and now you’re going to shift your first shift into your wolf Ashy, who I am sure is beautiful and I can’t wait to meet her. Come on, they are all waiting for you outside.” Mom said, taking a step back from me and looking me over. We rushed out of my bedroom, downstairs and out the back door. When we got outside it was just like mom said, everyone was waiting for us. There was a huge strawberry birthday cake in the centre of a table, with another table to the side filled with many gifts. I looked around, smiling at everyone, but then my eyes landed on Kodi and my wolf started purring in my head, like she was a big cat.

  “What in the world is going on with you? Why are you purring?” I asked, talking to her in my mind.

  “I don’t know, Leah, but his wolf is talking to me and he’s so sweet. Soon we will be shifting, but don’t worry, I’ll help you and if you feel you can’t take the pain then give me control and I’ll take over.” Ashy replied to me in my head.

  “Okay, but just let me try first and I promise if I can’t handle it I’ll let you, but let me try, okay.” I said, just as Kodi walked over to me.

  “Happy birthday, beautiful.” Kodi whispered in my ear and I tilted my head, smiling at him. He had the most beautiful light blue eyes and I couldn’t help looking into them. I had to admit that he was a handsome man, with hair down to his shoulders and he was wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt. He looked hot and I had to look away before he saw the blush that was creeping up onto my cheeks. Kodi chuckled before taking my hand and placing a small gift wrapped in purple wrapping paper.

  “I hope you like it.” Kodi said, smiling. I unwrapped the paper and opened the small gift box to reveal a beautiful white pendant in the shape of a full moon on a white gold chain. The necklace was absolutely stunning.

  “Thank you, thank you so much. It’s beautiful, but I’ll put it on after I have shifted, I don’t want to break it.” I said and he nodded in understanding. The night went on and everyone was having a great time. They all sang happy birthday to me and I opened my presents. I received jewellery, clothes, make-up and so much more that it really was amazing. Kodi and I stayed near each other the entire night and everyone was having a blast, but I forgot all about the time until I felt a sudden uneasy feeling and then little sharp pains in my stomach.

  “Ashy, is that you? Are you trying….” I started to ask her, but was cut off when a sharp pain had my stomach twisted in knots.

  “AHHHHH!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!” I screamed out, making everyone look at me as I doubled over clutching my stomach. I looked up for help as mom, dad, Kodi and a few others came running over to me and they all knew what was happening to me.

  “LOOK GUYS, YOU NEED TO MOVE BACK!! YOU KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THIS COULD BE!!!!” Dad announced, shouting at everyone in warning.

  “AHHHHHH!!!!” I cut dad off from speaking as another blood curdling scream left my mouth.
