Inside the old house, there were three people inside. One was standing behind a cloaked woman while facing the other youth who was sitting in a wheelchair. Kira took a sip of the tea offered by Lawrence Devon.
Although it doesn’t taste that good compared to the ones served in the palace, the tea has a refreshing scent. It must be because it was grown in the yard and was picked out freshly. She was amazed by his skills at making tea.
“The tea was refreshing. I commend you for that.” Kira placed the cup in her hand, gently sighing.
“Who are you?,” Lawrence pondered for a moment and said for a moment, “Me being part of the Devon family is a deep secret. How did you learn about it?”
“I say you look extremely like Franz Devon… But you are way more attractive than him, in my opinion.” Kira smiled extremely wickedly.
In her past life, she unexpectedly met this youth amid the chaos inside the dungeon. This man brought her comfort. Lawrence was also held captive in the dungeon with her but, unlike her, he was bound to become a test subject to become a sentinel.
Kira had never seen his face before. But she knew he was Franz’s twin brother because that’s what he told her. Their cells were facing each other so they became each other’s companions during those times.
Both of them shared the same sufferings, the same pain, and the same passion for revenge. So, at the time of her death, the words left by him echoed in her mind.
‘Kira, in the next life, if there’s a next life, come and find me. I will help you with your revenge!’
Those were his last words before he was sent to the laboratory. She would never forget the seriousness in his voice at that time. Because she’s blind, her hearing sense was more active and sensitive.
She sensed at that time that he was going to die. There’s no emotion in his voice, it's dead blank.
Kira could still remember how she cried silently in her dark cell. He was her only friend at that time. Who treated her with pure sincerity...
She promised that she would definitely find him and save him. She won’t let that happen to him again in this life.
“So you know Franz Devon. Is it because of our identical faces that you know about me?” he asked softly. He was getting uncomfortable. The lady in front of him had been staring at him for quite a long time already.
He could feel her eyes on him even if he couldn’t see her face clearly due to the darkness and also the cloak covering her head.
But he knew she didn’t come from a normal family. The way she moves and talks, even the young man following behind her, is very different from the ordinary people he used to meet.
“You are right. I know Franz Devon. But don’t worry, I’m not here to expose your existence or to become your enemy.” she answered softly.
Lawrence bitterly laughed, “It’s not important anyway. Whether you expose me or not, I don’t care. You would even give me a favor if you exposed me to the public, since it would bring me a quicker death.”
Kira was slightly blanked out when she heard him. As she looked into his eyes, there was nothing left in them. ‘So that is how you looked during that time. I had been wondering why your voice was so full of hope and joy. You were only hiding it just to comfort me.’
The next moment, Kira said in a cold voice, “Are you sure you want to die right now? Without knowing the truth?”
“What do you mean?”
She took a deep breath and said with a serious tone, “I think you would be interested in how Rose Gartfield died. I mean, she was the one who took care of you, so I think it’s your right to know how she died.”
Lawrence angrily and coldly looked at the lady in front of him. “Just who are you?! How did you know Mama Rose?!... Are you the one who killed her?!” He tried to stand up and attack her but because of his disability, he slumped directly on the floor.
The anger in his eyes was very visible as he looked at the woman. His fist clenched tightly and he tried to stand up once more.
“Bariston, help him up,” Kira said lightly.
Bariston obediently followed her orders. Despite Lawrence’s struggles, Bariston easily lifted him and pushed him back down to his wheelchair.
Back in his seat, Lawrence shoots daggers while gritting his teeth. However, it didn’t make any difference to Bariston as he retreated to where Kira was.
“No matter what you do, you won’t be able to reach me, Mr. Devon! Accept the truth that you are a disabled person!” she said coldly.
Kira sighed in her heart after she saw the pain in his eyes. She didn’t want to say it, but she had to make him face the reality. Lawrence should have the will to get back up on his feet before she can help him.
It would be useless if she treated him with care and gentleness. Just looking at how hopeless he was, nothing would be able to heal him.
“I’m not the one who killed her. " her words were like her eyes, which never concealed any hidden meaning in them.
“Why should I believe you?”
“I think this will make you believe me then.” Kira removed her cloak and her red eyes cascaded down her waist.
Her red hair shined as the luminous light from the small lamp inside the room reflected on her face. Kira smiled at him and introduced herself, “I think this is sincere enough... I’m Lady Kira Xanthe Kholins, the youngest daughter of Alpha Javier and also the well-known wolf-less trash in Rouguemont Castle.”
Lawrence stared in shock at the woman’s face. He can’t believe what he was seeing right now. How could she appear here in his house?! She was from the royal family for god’s sake!
Even if he hasn’t been out for a long time. He heard rumors about the youngest princess of the castle. Most of them were about her being a waste and highly inferior compared to her elder sister.
He also believed in those rumors because they had been circulating for so many years. And no one corrected it or clarified it. But as he looked at the calm woman in front of him, it was completely different from the rumors.
How can a woman who was a waste have this kind of calm and strong aura?... She was not a waste, useless trash at all!
He even forgot to show some courtesy because of the turmoil in his head.
Kira chuckled slightly. She knew he would have this reaction, it was quite a normal one. Her reputation is quite overwhelming and her showing up with this kind of change, can definitely shock anyone.
“So, are my words believable now?” Kira asked.
Lawrence woke up in his trance. He immediately bowed his head and showed politeness, “I’m sorry Lady Kira! I didn’t know that it was you! Please forgive my ignorance and my rude behavior!”
“No need for such courtesy. I came here to show my sincerity not to flaunt my status.” Kira lightly answered. “Shall we now go back to what we were discussing earlier, Mr. Devon?”
Lawrence nodded and listened carefully. He already believed her words by the time she introduced herself. Throughout their discussion, even at the time when he was rude to her, she didn’t become haughty.
Although she was cold and calm when she spoke, she didn’t show arrogance. Very different from the people he saw that were from noble families.
In the area where he was living, most of the people there were servants and slaves from influential families. And so he heard a lot of things about the people they were serving.
So, Lady Kira, having this kind of approach, is somewhat refreshing for him. It also refreshes his mind towards his prejudice towards them.
Kira waved her right hand, which the latter understood immediately. Bariston passed a stack of papers to Lawrence.
“Those were the investigations I have gathered about Rose Gartfield’s death. And as you can see, it all leads to the Devon Family. I have been keeping an eye on them for a while now and, although they didn’t have any social rankings, they can’t be easily defeated.”
Her eyes turned colder instantly as she continued, “And the most profitable way to defeat them is by attacking them from the inside.”
