Chapter 13: The Search

These past few days, Kira had been staying in her room diligently. No matter how Valerie persuaded her to hang out with her, she ignored it and made some excuses to decline.

It’s giving Valerie a headache. She had been occasionally mentioning Franz Devon but she seemed not to mind it. Even a slight change in her expression did not appear.

She wanted to get some useful information from her, just like how she talked to Kira before. Valerie asked unharmed questions but behind it, there was a hidden trap. But that doesn’t seem to work right now.

Kira was not the same as Kira in the past. Her temperament changed drastically and she sometimes thought that her sister had become smarter. But she erased that thought immediately.

How can a person change entirely in just a few weeks? And also, she can’t feel any wolf spirit in her, which means, she’s still a useless trash who is wolf-less. This made her sigh with relief. But she won’t feel at ease as long as she’s still there.

That’s why she has to eliminate her. Kira’s existence is a thorn in her heart that can only be healed once she’s gone. So, she still proceeded with her plan for the examination day.

As the moon touched the night sky, lamps were slowly lighted in every household. Kira went to her bathroom and took a bath. Warm water filled the porcelain bathtub, and lotus flowers were scattered in the water. It gives a refreshing scent and warm feeling.

This had been her habit every night. Ever since she discovered her new ability, she had been experimenting with how to increase her strength... And she found a very relaxing way to increase her strength.

It’s by soaking herself in warm water filled with lotus flowers. The warm water can relax her tensed body and her pores will be soothed. Even her wolf spirit, she can sense that it brings comfort to it, which is very advantageous in increasing her strength.

Her eyes drooped to close in sleep while leaning on her head. Unbeknownst to everyone, she hadn’t been lazing around inside her room for the past few days. She would cultivate and study every now and then. She read some political books and other things that she neglected to study in the past.

She will not go into a battle unprepared…

A knock on the door woke her up from her deep slumber. “Lady Kira, sorry for disturbing you. Bariston had arrived to deliver some important message to you.” It was Auntie Herma’s voice outside.

“Understood Auntie Herma. I’ll be out in a minute,” she answered.

Bariston finally came back. He must have already gotten news about that person.

She stood up from the bathtub and pulled a robe off the hanger. She tied the white robe tightly around her and casually brushed her long red hair with her hands.

As when she walked outside, Bariston was already waiting in one of the seats. When he noticed her presence, he abruptly stood up and made his greetings. Kira waved her hand and said, “ How were the things I asked you to do?”

“Lady Kira, you were right. Lady Valerie was planning something on the examination day. I didn’t manage to know what the exact plans were because Dave Maximo, Lady Valerie’s personal guard, had been keeping an eye on Franz Devon as well”, speaking up to this point, he paused and then continued, “I’m sorry to fail to know their plans, Lady Kira. Dave Maximo is good at sensing others and I’m afraid he would learn about my presence if I persisted in following Franz Devon around.”

“Dave Maximo huh? Valerie really sent her most trusted slave.” she chuckled softly, “Did Morgana and Franz meet during those times?” she asked after thinking for a while.

“Yes, Lady Kira. They had frequently met when it was almost midnight, at the back gate of the palace. I also saw Ms. Roswell give Mr. Devon a small pouch.”

“A pouch…”

Bariston nodded, “Yes, it’s a small ivory-colored pouch. Only a few things can fit inside that pouch. I was thinking that it must be a poison, Lady Kira.”

Kira was slightly stunned but asked him afterward, “Why do you think it’s poison?”

Bariston’s expression turned grim and serious instantly. In a low voice, he answered, “I accidentally saw Ms. Roswell’s servant comes out of a medical store. What’s unusual was that she had been covering herself in disguise and cautiously hiding.”

He sighed deeply before continuing, “So, I followed that servant and saw her giving something to Ms. Roswell. When I went back to that store to ask about it, I learned that it was a poison.”

Kira was silent for a long time before slowly saying, “Did they tell you what the poison is all about?”

“It’s an aphrodisiac Lady Kira. A type of poison that can increase the hormones in a person’s body that will heighten their s****l desires and instincts.”

Kira smirked afterward, “Good job, Bariston. I’m right in handing this task to you.” She took a sip from the cup of tea served on the table before asking, “What about Lawrence Devon? Got something about him?”

“I learned about his address and knows where he usually works and his house. “ Bariston’s eyes revealed a touch of doubt. “But I was wondering why no one noticed that he was Franz Devon’s twin. They are twins born on the same day but no one knew about it. I even asked the people around Devon’s family but they didn’t know that such a twin existed.”

Kira smiled meaningfully but didn’t answer. Of course, the Devon Family would not spread this scandalous information outside. She bet that all the people who knew about this secret must have already been killed by them.

Inside a dark-themed study, a young man in his 20s sat in a large chair. Wearing a dark robe and a masked, covering his face, he sat there giving a dangerous air around.

Since no one can see his face, no one knows his expression, whether he’s angry or frustrated. No one can guess it. That’s why he is called the mysterious alpha in the whole empire.

“What did you get?” his cold voice sounded so dangerous. It’s the type of tone that is usually used in horror films when the killer is ready to kill their victims.

Another man is kneeling on one knee across from him. His head lowered, showing great respect to the person on the seat. “Among the entire Rouguemont Castle, there’s only one lady who had red-colored hair.”

The masked man who was sitting on the chair tightened his brows and asked, “Who is that woman?”

“She was the youngest princess of Rouguemont Castle. Lady Kira Xanthe Kholins is her name but…” he hesitated for a moment but sighed in the end. “But Master, it’s impossible that she was the one who saved you that night.”

“How so?”

“It’s because she is the most useless princess in the whole castle. She was often called a waste because she hadn’t got her wolf yet. A lot of people were saying that she’s bringing shame to their royal family.”

“A waste?” The masked man nodded his head, “Any other news?”

“Master Alder, are you sure the woman who saved you was a red-haired girl? Not a brown one?” Jett Sullivan, his beta, stated. “It’s highly possible that it’s the eldest princess of Rouguemont Castle. It must be the eldest daughter who saved you that night, Master.”

Alder’s eyebrows rose, “Oh? Why did you say so?”

“It’s because she’s the most talented person in their kingdom. It’s widely known. Compared to her younger sister, she excelled in medicine, martial arts, music, and even in terms of beauty. She’s also elegant and kind. At present, she’s the only person in their kingdom who has reached 3rd rank at her age, except her father, the Alpha Javier.”

“No, that’s not her. Investigate that princess once again. I want to know everything about her immediately, " Alder lazily said.

“Which princess, Master?” Jett asked curiously.

“Which one do you think?” he frowned instantly.

Jett wanted to protest but stopped when he saw his master sending daggers at him. He wanted to ask why would he waste his time investigating a wasteful princess instead of a talented one?

At times he really can’t understand his master’s way of thinking. He had been serving him for so many years already, but there are times that he can’t figure out his train of thoughts.

Left with no choice, he bowed his head politely and walked out of the room to do the task. ‘Lady Kira Kholins?... Are you really the one who saved my master that night?...’
