Before the night rose, Kira and Bariston had already headed back to the palace. They can’t afford to be too late or else someone might notice their absence. It will be difficult for them to explain.
Bariston stood in front of her as she slowly sipped the tea in her hands, “Lady Kira, when did you learn medicine? I heard that people inside were having difficulty answering that question. How did you know about it?”
Kira placed the cup in her hand, gently sighing.
“Bariston,” Kira pondered for a moment and replied, “It is indeed difficult to solve, but as long as they have fully understood what a grim fungus is, they can answer the question. The reason a lot of people fail is that they neglected the basic foundation of the poison itself.”
When this was said, a burst of hurried footsteps resounded outside the door, and then the room’s door was suddenly pushed.
Kira glanced over at the person who pushed the door to enter, “Auntie Herma, what’s with the hurry? Did something happen?”
Auntie Herma was catching her breath, her dress and hair were slightly wrinkled due to running. “Lady Kira…”
Bariston hurriedly offered Auntie Herma a cup of tea, which the latter accepted. After a few gulps, her breathing became at ease and she finally calmed down.
“What is it, Auntie Herma? Did something happen while we were away?”
“Lady Kira, fortunately, you have already come back… I’m afraid that you won’t be back before Master arrives.” she respectfully bowed her head and answered truthfully.
A while ago, when Bariston and Lady Kira sneakily went out, Marcel Thorin, the personal guard of Alpha Javier, said that all the people in the palace should be present at the meeting that would be held this evening.
She didn’t have any idea what time her lady would be back. That’s why she was anxiously waiting for them. Who knows what will happen if she gets caught because of this incident?
Fortunately, a trusted maid told her that Lady Kira was in her room already. That’s why she immediately rushed to her to make sure.
Auntie Herma appeared to be somewhat happy as she sat in front of Lady Kira, “I did not expect you to be back this early, Lady Kira… I thought it would take you longer to be back. Fortunately, you came back in time.”
Kira reached out for her tea and gently stroked the cup, she asked softly, “Why does father want to have a meeting with everyone? Did you notice something unusual a while ago, Auntie Herma?”
Auntie Herma pondered before replying, “I heard from one of the servants that there will be an important guest that will be coming on the examination day. I think that’s why Master called out this meeting.”
“Important guests…” she mumbled under her breath. Her eyes turned grim instantly when she recalled who that important guest was.
‘Clovis Morris… We will be seeing each other once again!’
She totally forgot that Clovis Morris had visited their castle on the examination day. Since she wasn’t present at that time, she forgot about his arrival.
That was also the time when Valerie fell head over heels for that guy.
“Lady Kira?” unwittingly she was lost in thought and did not realize that she was staring blankly at the cup in her hands. Auntie Herma quickly called out when she noticed her spacing out.
Kira put the cup down and calmly asked, “What other things were announced earlier?”
“There will be a dressmaker that will be arriving earlier as well. Lady Kira must go for the dressmaker to take your measurements. I think Master wanted you to attend the examination day. Not a contestant, but an audience perhaps.”
Kira nodded in agreement. “Understood, you can go back to your work now, Auntie Herma.”
Late in the afternoon, the dressmaker arrived together with the Alpha. Because the ladies needed to have their measurements to be taken, Alpha Javier delayed the meeting and had the dressmaker do her job first.
Valerie sent a maidservant to deliver the message that the dressmaker had already arrived. Kira followed the maidservant and stepped inside the room.
Valerie was already there together with Morgana. As always, Valerie was wearing a light-colored blue dress with her hair sleek down. She appeared to look like a gentle fairy in her outfit.
And beside her, there was Morgana, who was glaring at her as usual. It was not a surprise that she was there as well. Although this was prepared for the royal family only, she was sure that Valerie had come up with something to have Morgana join them.
It’s not because she cared for Morgana, it’s because this will make Morgana trust her even more. In this way, Valerie can use Morgana without her being suspicious at all.
After Kira greeted Valerie, Morgana looked at Kira and smiled, “Oh, Lady Kira is here. Quickly, you should select the clothing materials. Mrs. Parella will then take your measurements later.”
Valerie giggled, “Morgana and I have already made our selection and now, we are waiting for you to pick.”
It was definitely obvious that it was Valerie’s maidservant who arrived late. But the way Valerie said it, it became her fault that Mrs. Parella was waiting for a long time.
Kira didn’t want to bother arguing with her this time and just walked toward the table where the clothing materials were placed. She still has other important things to do.
Mrs. Parella was already in her late 30s. She was a widowed woman but never remarried again. After her husband died, she focused on managing their tailor shop. The clothes in her shop were very expensive because the embroidery on them was so mesmerizing and exquisite.
Most of Valerie’s clothes came from her shop but it was quite the opposite for her. She didn’t have the lavish lifestyle Valerie had. Her monthly allowance was only half of what Valerie’s monthly allowance was.
And now that she had brought those expensive herbs, her savings had dropped. She has to find a way to make money. Relying on the monthly allowance she gets is not a festive idea.
There were about 6 blots of clothes that were spread in front. One misty pink and one sunny yellow color were already placed on one side, obviously chosen by the others. The pink was obviously chosen by Valerie while the yellow one was chosen by Morgana.
In her previous lifetime, on the examination day, Valerie wore that misty pink dress and she looked ethereal. When the bright moon flashed on her, she looked warm and more beautiful than the flowers.
Morgana wore a yellow dress which made her look delicate and feminine. And on the other hand, she wore a white dress together with the multi-colored jewelry given to her by Valerie.
That’s how she became the joke of the whole castle and her father scolded her harshly.. And that white dress that made her look like a ghost because of her pale skin was chosen by her sister for her.
Valerie smiled, “Kira’s skin is fair, which makes it compatible with the white cloth. It would look lovely on you.”
Morgana repeatedly nodded, “Lady Valerie is right. Among all the materials on the table, the white cloth suited you the best, Lady Kira.”
Valerie and Morgana knew that Kira did not know how to choose clothes. For example, that white material indeed complimented her skin, but it made her look more like a ghost. And with that large multi-colored jewel, she looked childish.
In the past, Auntie Herma persuaded her to throw those things out because they didn’t suit her at all. But she was stubborn enough to keep them and think that those were her precious treasures. How hilarious!
Kira pointed to one of the blots of brocade and said, “Then this one will do.”
That was a blot of lotus red material and generally, a lot of unmarried females would not choose this kind of material.
This was mainly because these red-colored dresses are usually worn during weddings and a lot of females wanted to keep it special for the one they love. Aside from that, the lotus embroidery is quite picky, and normal females would easily look old-fashioned when wearing it.
But Kira didn’t care one bit. She doesn’t have any plans on preserving that color for her wedding. And besides, she doesn’t want to get married in this lifetime.
She had already stopped daydreaming of someday meeting her prince charming. Those were just a bunch of craps that didn’t exist in reality.
