Chapter 28: Meeting Again

Clovis’s eyes closely followed the lady in the red dress. He heard every single word she had said on the stage and he gave a profound smile, “This youngest princess is indeed very interesting.” Marcus Graham, Clovis’s personal guard, heard it and asked meaningfully, “Does young master fancy the youngest princess of Rouguemont Castle? I heard from the rumors that she was an i***t but it seems that she is not. As we have witnessed, she is clever, elegant, and beautiful as well. If she becomes the young madam…” he smirked, “It would anger your elder brother’s wife. She will definitely hate it because Lady Kira is more beautiful than her.” Clovis knew what his personal guard meant. It was not a secret that he and his elder brother were fighting for the alpha’s throne. Their father also believed in giving everyone the chance to compete, so both of them were given the same treatment and resources. It’s on them how they are going to outdo the other. However, when his eldest brother, Conan Morris, married Minerva, the only daughter of his father’s beta, it became a disadvantage to him. This means that his brother had the support of Minerva’s family in fighting for the throne. This is also the reason why he visited Rouguemont Castle. It’s to look for a possible marriage alliance that can help him grow his power. What caught his interest greatly was Lady Kira. However, he knew very well that she wasn’t supported by anyone in the castle. It’s of no use to him to marry someone with no power behind her. It was the right choice to marry Lady Valerie, the eldest princess of Rouguemont Castle. Besides her beauty and elegance, she also had the support of the whole castle, especially the alpha. So, it was definitely an advantage for him to marry her. But he didn’t know what was stopping him from following that option. He can’t help but have second thoughts about choosing Lady Valerie. It’s like there’s something about Lady Kira that he should not ignore…. As Kira leisurely walked down with a calm expression, she felt someone was looking at her. She slowly turned around and saw that Clovis Morris was intently observing her. Instead of turning away, she looked directly into his eyes. Not backing down a bit. She had this expressionless face that Clovis was surprised to see. He knew the effects those women would feel whenever they saw him. He was also expecting Kira to have the same reaction but nothing happened. There’s no surprise, joy, excitement, or anything at all. It’s pure blank. He can’t read what’s on her mind, nor her real intentions…. However, their eye contact didn’t last for long as Kira turned around and walked back to her seat. Hidden behind her sleeves, her fist was clenched in her palms, and even her nails were dug so deeply that any minute later, they would definitely bleed. Her eyes turned cold when she remembered that face she had seen near Clovis earlier. It was Marcus Graham!… The man who tried to r**e her in the past and also the person who killed Auntie Herma! Her thoughts wondered that she didn’t even notice Katelyn talking to her. When she felt the slight tap on her shoulders, she finally looked at the person in front of her, “Why?…” “Is something the matter?… You looked lost when you came back,” Katelyn commented. She had noticed it immediately when she sat back down at their table. At first, she thought it was because of the nervousness when she was on the stage, but looking at it right now, it doesn’t seem so… Kira replied plainly and hid her thoughts away, “Nothing… I just remembered something outrageous.” Katelyn didn’t press on the topic and smiled, “We have a little break before the next round. I’ll just go get something in the carriage and I’ll be back.” After Katelyn left, Kira stood up from her seat and walked outside the hall. She walked straight towards the plum blossom forest located at the side of the hall. Since it’s not yet the season for it to bloom, there’s not much beauty that she can admire. Bariston walked closer to her and whispered, “Lady Kira, Dave had already woken up and he was trying to find a way to free himself.” “Let him… I’m sure he won’t be able to break away before the competition ends. Just watch him closely if something unexpected happens.” Kira said. “Lady Kira, what are you going to do with Dave?… Auntie Herma was even guarding your room tightly. Are both of them related to your plan?” Bariston was somewhat confused. Although he had been following her orders, he still failed to understand his lady’s thoughts. Kira smirked and looked at the plum blossom tree in front, “No matter how beautiful the scenery is, if no one was watching it, it would be useless. Before someone can notice its beauty, someone should recognize it first. Don’t you agree?” Although Bariston still didn’t understand it, he nodded his head. Kira knew Bariston’s confusion but she didn’t explain it. He will understand it better once her plans come to life. She was about to go back inside when she heard a chuckle. The two of them looked to the side and saw a young man wearing black clothes and a mask. He was folding his chest across his chest as he leaned against the tree trunk. It was the man she had saved in the forest before! “Lady Kira… He…” Bariston immediately stood guard, protecting Lady Kira. He recognized the black-masked man in front of them. They didn’t know this person’s identity. That’s why he became suspicious of his sudden appearance. “Bariston… Go and stand guard at the entrance. Don’t let anyone come near here.” Kira said. “But Lady Kira… I can’t leave you here! We don’t know that person at all!” He was hesitant about leaving Lady Kira alone. Knowing that the person in front of him was way much stronger than him, he couldn’t help but feel afraid and worried if he left her there. The way that the masked man enters the forest unnoticed proves his strength… “Just go… Don’t worry about me.” Kira slightly frowned at him. Bariston could only retreat and walked away after seeing the seriousness in her expression. “You are starting to interest me, Lady Kira Kholins… It’s rare for me to be interested in someone.” Alder leaned against the tree trunk as he looked at her in amusement. He saw everything that had happened in the examination earlier. He got interested in her when she was playing chess alone, but his interest grew after seeing her painting. Especially the way she eloquently made that speech. She really had this talent for capturing someone’s emotions with her lies. Of course, Alder knew instantly that all she was saying on the stage was pure nonsense. That’s why he got interested in her. How can a young girl like her manage to fool everyone with her lies? It’s amazing. “I don’t think we know each other that much for you to be interested in me,” Kira said. This person suddenly appeared in front of her. She knew he had not come here just to have a chat. And for him to know her name, he knew that it was her who helped him in the forest at that time. “The youngest master of Wishborne Castle is here looking for a wife. And looking at it, he had grown a sudden interest in you. Should I say some words of congratulations?” His tone was unclear, but when he mentioned Wishborne Castle, there was mockery in it. Kira was in deep thoughts but she didn’t show it on the surface. It’s like she was showing that his words didn’t have any impact on her. Alder suddenly took a step forward. Since he was taller than her, Kira’s whole figure was covered by his shadow. “I’m right. You already knew about it.” Kira raised her eyes and looked at him in the eyes, “So what if I knew about it and so what if I didn’t? I don’t think it’s a matter of concern to you.” The corners of his lips hooked up, adding some evil touch to his smile. He held her chin up and moved his head closer to her ears. “I will let you play for a while since I find it interesting as well… But make sure that you won’t lose. Or else I will come back and capture you for myself.”
