A Tale of Three Lunas-Completed

Chapter 35

Kaipo's POV

My wolf is worried.

Topaz' wolf exerted so much energy to get me to recognize her that she is even weaker than she was before I met her. I will go wherever I need to go to spend time with my mate, even to unfriendly packs. The young Alpha of the West Moontrail Pack has never seen me before so if Topaz and I go, it shouldn't arouse suspicion. I know I could protect her in her weakened state if it came to it.

I pull Topaz close and tell her exhausted wolf that her mate is here now to take care of her and to go to sleep.

"How are you able to communicate with my wolf when I can't even talk to her? You must be a mighty wolf."

Although our mate bond is weak due to the damage to my mate's wolf, she is a smart one and she understands that I am formidable.

I open my mouth to hint to her that we might have a special connection, but we are interrupted by a knock at the door.

"Someone is trying to break into the dungeons."

Are we under attack again?

"Please lanna, don't leave your room." I say to my mate before leaving. She nods and sits back down on the couch.

I follow my men who are racing toward the dungeons across the vast field. I continue after the crowd and we end up at the dungeon of El of the West Moontrail Pack. It seems some unknown Alpha has slipped into his cell and has the old Alpha's neck in its teeth.

I am hoping that things will finally get back to normal after the incident in the dungeons a few days ago. It was horrendous, disturbing the way things went down and I needed time to recuperate. Having to say goodbye to my best friend was hard, but I am optimistic that things will work out. Its time to get things on track now.

Topaz is notified of her meeting with the King first thing in the morning. I spent most of the night on preparations.

'I don't think that I can do this, Alpha.'

I stand on the ledge just outside my office window, my chosen spot for my mate's meeting with the King.

"Oh, please. All you have to do is listen and nod your head." I say into my open window. With my werewolf hearing, I should be able to hear everything going on in the meeting in case I need to interject. "Now, you need to project confidence. Remember, you are the Alpha King."

I hear him take a deep breath and sit at my desk. Not too long afterward, Topaz enters the room, introduces herself and begins her presentation. I can hear her smile in her voice, her excitement about the whole situation and I get to hear her whole presentation. Roman barely says a word.

"So what you are asking for is permission to visit the West Moontrail Pack and seek out the piece of the missing obelisk that you say was found in the forest between our kingdoms decades ago?"

"Yes, Alpha."

"How long do you think this would take?"

"I am hoping not more than a few days, depending on how far the pack is from here."

"Okay, so what would you need?"

"I just need a way to get there and a guide through your territory. Someone named Kaipo from your pack has offered to come with me so if he could, that would be great. I would also like to have a conversation with Luna Zinnia because I think she is also going there. She said she would come over to talk to me, but I haven't seen her. I have been asking around and have been unable to find an answer."

"Um, well Kaipo can go with you, that's fine. I'll leave the plans for travel in his hands. Zinnia, however, is no longer on our packlands. She went home to the East Moontrail Pack. There was an emergency."

"Oh, no. Is she okay? Is there any way I can get in contact with her?"

'Tell her you'll look into it and then tell her you have another meeting.' I mindlink him.

"Why don't I look into it? She's probably feeling up to talking by now. But I actually have-"

"She's unwell? Did something happen to her? I think something could be wrong if neither she or her mate said goodbye."

"No, she's safe, she just wasn't in a position to talk when she left. We had to-"

'Stop elaborating and get out of there.' I growl.

I hear a long pause before he clears his throat. "Everything is fine." I can hear Roman smile through gritted teeth. "I have to go."

That went not great.

I jump down off the building and shift so I can go for a run. I don't know the next time I will be able to travel around my kingdom, so I just enjoy the experience.

It isn't easy for my family to live in such a cold climate, but I have grown to love it. Culturally, I am Hawaiian, but when the population on the island chain found out about werewolves, my ancestors were made to flee to the mainland United States. They all came together as a small pack of around 250 and then started the Goodwill initiative. That made us grow to be very powerful and then we were a kingdom.

My sister and I will be the last full Hawaiians in our bloodlines as neither her mate nor mine are Hawaiian. I thought it might be possible, looking at the population left of the natives and it made me a bit sad to think about. Now that I have met my beautiful, brilliant mate, though, I could not imagine a more perfect woman.

I don't want to mess things up with her. I know I have to take things slow because her wolf is weak and she doesn't know that I am a King of the Alphas, but I was hoping for an equal partner in a mate. I just hope we get there soon.

After my run, I get dressed and check my phone. I see a message from an unsaved number.

Can we meet up to talk?
