Chapter Four
The Alpha of the Pack
Third Person’s Point of View
Kaiden is tired.
He had been rummaging around other people’s packs as if he was the leader of the place. If their solving skills didn’t result in more chaos, he would never have meddled. Sometimes, he did wonder why some Alpha managed to sit in their position when they couldn’t even do their job correctly.
“f**k this,” he grunted, hands putting pressure on his neck as he felt the strain.
For what seems like a week, his body has been coated by fatigue. He was not sure what he wanted to do anymore. After fixing other pack problems, he walked back to his office, only to see a huge stack of paper filling his table.
His hands raised to his forehead.
There are days where he feels overwhelmed, and it was these days.
“Alpha.”
He didn’t even look at the warrior. Knowing the tone coming from the man, he was already aware that he fill faced another trouble. Kaiden was good at his job, and he was in a situation where a lot needed his assistance. His pack could function without him for weeks, but his allied packs do not behave the same way.
Many of them were dependent on him, and he needed to find ways to stop that.
Many individuals have been attacked lately that some Alpha had requested the royal guard’s aid. Some form of marked red was stated only years ago, one that his parents were slightly aware of.
None of them had faced one, only by riding tongues.
“There had been some number of rogues visiting our land.” The warrior announced, bowing at him as he showed him the reports. “The rogues who had injured around five of our women and some who had almost killed a child.”
Kaiden frowned at that news as he had swiped through the pages. Hearing that someone had almost killed a child does worry him. The safety of the pups is something that he had prioritized.
“Did someone already call my sister to fix the mess?” Kaiden asked, knowing that the little sucker loved to soothe children. She was destined to be a beta female by how she was able to make amend with the pups as if she had imprinted on them.
A subtle frown came from him. “Unfortunately, she was is on a school trip and could not adhere to such tasks.”
Kaiden digested all of the listed events that happened in his pack, slowly pushing away his need to take a rest. “We’ll start talking with the kids before I face those rogues.”
The man initially wanted to rest or even grab a meal before starting, but he had left so many tasks that none offered him enough time to take care of himself.
Despite his exhaustion, Kaiden performed effectively. He faces no worries in fixing the mess that occurred in his pack. From the second that he had gathered enough structure in his patrols and the children were all settled down, it was the right time to face the rogues.
“We have another one, Alpha.” The warrior muttered as he was walking out of the dungeon.
Kaiden took a second to look to where the man was heading, slightly confused with the path. “Then why are we leaving the prison cells?”
“This wolf does not react in any harsh way. She only wanted to have some sip into the river. So the Beta had settled her in the special cells.” He replied.
“What?” He grumbled, confused. “I have told him a million times that rogues like that are always welcome to let loose when it’s not reacting harshly.”
The warrior only frowned, having him hold his temple as he shook his head; clearly, he was having enough stress about the day that he was not reacting right. William probably did it for a reason, so he could not do anything about it.
From the second he had walked in, he was confused about seeing a wolf lying on the ground. Beautiful brown fur had visited my eyes when it settled into her, wondering why it was in her form when she was trapped.
“Why is she in wolf form?” The Alpha asked, stirring her into reality, but it was still not enough to wake her from her slumber.
The warrior frowned, bowing his head in submission. “Unfortunately, we do not know the reason, Alpha. The Beta had told us not to force her as she is more comfortable in her wolf.”
He frowned at that.
As much as a human was connected with a wolf, having the wolf control when it’s sleeping is not normal. If a human were willing to do that, she would bear some problems that only the wolf could save her into.
“The nurse had told us that there were tons of bruises on her paws.”
Kaiden could sense as much. The bandages were fully visible, and there was only one need for a human to have the werewolf be in total control. “She must be running for days.” Looking into her room, a minor confusion swirled inside his mind when he could still see a bowl of food that was untouched. Only the water bowl was empty, but the food had not moved.
“She also did not eat a single thing. All she did was sleep.”
“She’s preparing for a long run then,” Kaiden noticed, familiar with this set-up. “Did she cause any trouble?”
“No, Alpha.”
Hearing the rough voices in the room, Emmi had gone fully awake. Usually, she would be scared upon seeing an Alpha, but the human part is hardly awake. Pushing herself to an upright position, she faced a familiar warrior and the Alpha. What they were meeting was her wolf. It was easy to know his position, just by his presence alone.
A surge went through the Alpha as soon as their eyes met. He had controlled the gasp to escape his mouth as he let his nose fill through the scent. It was intoxicating, something that was leaving him breathless. He was not aware of why her scent was not the first thing he had noticed.
“Leave us.” He announced softly.
Walking inside the cell, her eyes were suddenly in nothing but fear. Ultimately seeing this as a familiar sight—he was a lot muscular and handsome than her previous Alpha. He beckoned his hand to make her stand.
“Shift.”
She whimpered, shaking her head.
Knowing that she might be uncomfortable by being nude, Kaiden swiftly pulled his shirt off from his body, which made her take a few steps back away from him. Noticing her inconvenience, he produces a sound to alert her of what she needs to do. “You can wear my shirt. I’m sure it’s large enough for you.”
That was not the issue.
Emmi was surprised to see the Alpha turn around, giving her the space and privacy to shift back to her human form. It was a simple form of decency, but the fact that she was surprised to receive it speaks enough. Compelled to do what the Alpha wanted her to do, Emmi had shifted back into her human form. Her hands quickly pulled on the oversized shirt as if he would turn around by the second.
“Calm down and take your time,” Kaiden carefully instructed. He was slightly grateful that his time was busy, and he had not had enough energy than average. Wanting to assure her, he added. “I will not turn around until you told me to. Control is easily attainable at times like this. Do not fret as you can tumble down.”
Emmi had no other choice but to trust his words. She kept her balance before wearing the shirt, wanting to calm herself. The last thing she needed was to act like a complete fool. It had a tint of lavender and some spikes of nature. It was large enough that it was close to reaching her knees. She was tiny compared to this man. Looking to his broad back, she whispered. “You can turn around now.”
“Alright. I will turn around now.” He said, making her confused. What Alpha blindly follows the words from a rogue?
As the man had turned back to her, she absentmindedly took a suck of breath. The man before her was the most handsome man she had ever met. It took her one step as she yelp, having to lose her balance and letting the Alpha catch her.
One single touch that came from him, and she had looked back at him, surprised.
The sparks sizzling in their body were something that already told her who the man was. Looking into the Alpha that had beautiful eyes and such a bright smile, she could not believe her eyes. Emmi is drawn in his eyes, which seem to haunt her in the right way. Her hands reached his cheeks, and as soon as he allowed that, she smiled. Kaiden sucked a breath upon seeing that. He knew that she was beautiful, but that smile was beyond what he had imagined.
“You’re my mate?” Her soft voice asked so sweetly.
He grinned, holding her close. “Yes, I am.”
