Chapter Three
Unexpected mistakes can be good… maybe.
Emmi Parker’s Point of View
I have been running for days.
The second that my wolf had gone complete control of my body, she had never looked back from the path we had crossed. My wolf is fairly big for my size. The animal part of me is proud and confident, and she always sought her freedom. I have always been hesitant to shift in the pack because I was scared to have her in control.
Knowing my wolf, she would not hesitate to hurt anyone who crossed us. She had hated every second that she had spent there, so it was only apparent that she would do everything she could to get away from there.
Never did my wolf stay in a place more than a day—she would usually stop when she had finally felt fatigued, but she had never taken a pause other than eating and sleeping.
And I never complained about her decision.
My scent is fresh on every werewolf that would settle in the land, and my wolf has to navigate in areas that were neutral land, for she does not get caught in a pack. We are both scared that the Alpha was looking for us and spot us from a couple of distance packs away from where we ran away from.
My wolf perked up as she heard flowing water, looking to the area where it was. A smile lingered on both our faces, as she had been thirsty. Quickly dropping into the river, a sigh escaped from me as we drank water. My wolf huffed before drinking in the freshwater.
Finally, we found something to quench our thirst.
A small ruffling of trees had us alert. Moving our eyes back to the intruder, I could only groan inwardly as I saw their position. They were all marked on the shoulders, and different tattoos were printed in them, and by the man's level of control, I was now aware that I had entered a pack land without having to be mindful of it.
Oh no.
“What are you doing here, rogue!?” The man snarled, judging by the way of control and tone of his voice… I can assume that he is a beta. Not a single ounce of that dominating intimidation was corrupting him.
Rogue?
It was not a pretty mark to be called as such, but my wolf was elated. Being labeled as a rogue means that I do not have a scent that gathered me to be in a pack. My connection to my old pack was never solidified, so my scent and traces do not hold anything that would place me in my old pack.
Still in wolf form, as I did not have any article of clothing, I had turned back to where I was and stepped on the water. Looking back at them, I bowed my head into submission.
It is easier to let them know that I meant no harm.
“Shift.” One man ordered.
I could only whimper as I shook my head. It had been days, maybe even months, since my human body was in control of me, and I would be naked. That is not something that I wanted to have to experience. Having my wolf lose control and being tired to run is not something that I wanted to try.
The three of the warriors sighed, seemingly troubled by my expression as they looked at the man closer to me.
A man finally voices out his thoughts. “I think the wolf is just thirsty, man.”
“Trouble or no trouble, we don’t get to decide. We need to take you to the Alpha to have him decide on what he wanted to do with you.” His voice speaks that this issue was final. His eyes still assessed my wolf as he frowned. The beta finally sees that I am tired and in need of food. “It’s the pack rules.”
I quickly nodded, following them without hesitation.
Since I did not do anything wrong in their land, I know for a fact that they will soon let me go. I did not even need to shift as I followed them inside the pack. It was beautiful. Every bit of the history of the place was highlighted in every aspect.
It seemed like I have traveled far if the place is getting colder than our area, which is still humid. When we had reached the packhouse, they had guided me into the cells. But this one was restricted and away from the usual rogues they held captive.
I grinned, running inside the cell as I rolled into one corner and settled into the ground. It was also good to see that I needed some time to give for my wolf to settle into a place and rest.
“Bark once if you’re comfortable, man.”
My eyes snapped to the man who had talked as I growled, annoyed at how they thought that I was a man. Are they unaware of my gender and only felt that I could be a man? I see how they were startled by my reaction, probably confused as I had reacted quite harshly to them.
As the door had flung open, a female warrior had entered.
I only huffed as I pointed my nose in her direction, wanting to tell them my gender.
“Oh!” The same warrior reacted with a laugh. “I am sorry, I did not know.”
When I was about to put my head down, I was confused when a female nurse entered the cell. I was aware of her status by the bag she was holding and the smell of nothing but medicine. Why are they even sending me a nurse to tend?
No rogues had this service in my pack.
As the nurse looked at me carefully, it somehow gave me pain. To see that I was used to being in her condition, tending scared and battered wolf and being terrified of the evil that people have in their skin.
If a chance were given to me, I would love to still be a doctor.
“You needed to stay for the night as the Alpha is stuck in his duties.” The beta had muttered as he entered the halls, looking to the woman who was tending me. “Sophie? Are you sure that you can tend to her?”
The little girl jumped. “Y… yes, beta.”
“Good.” He nodded, looking back at me with such an expressionless face. “As soon as the Alpha’s mother heard that you were a girl, she immediately requests aid.”
She had done that?
That is so sweet. The pack must flourish to have someone like her to lead them. Still having control over her old pack despite her being the mother of the Alpha—now, that is a power that a Luna could have, someone who is meant to have that power.
The other man nodded, offering me a smile. “She’s been there, being a roughed-up wolf and all.”
It seemed like my wolf really did good in making sure that she was full before diving into somewhere that she was not used to. Her exhaustion gave us a place to stay and someone who can tend our wounds. It would make things easier for the coming days that I would be running away.
“You look thin. I don’t think you’ve been eating.” The nurse, who I believe was called Sophie, sighed as she held onto my fur. As a doctor, I was proud that she was reacting to my needs without fearing that I would hurt her. Unfortunately, a lot of nurses do respond in such ways. Rogues can be dangerous, and most of them carry diseases that one could get. The nurses in my old place were always scared. Sophie, however, seemed earnest. There was no degrading look in her eyes. It seemed like she genuinely wanted to help me. My eyes wanted to shift close, but I shook my head. The nurse seemed to be aware of my reactions as she frowned. “Please do not sleep yet. Fight it, you got some wounds that need tending—awake.”
My wolf huffed, letting her aware that we would not sleep.
Sophie lifted my paw, and I watched as her eyes grew wide. The bruises on my foot would be rough, seeing that my wolf had been running non-stop. There is a number of fumbles that my wolf had done a few places back, and not all ground was as clean as their pack. I am sure my paw is badly bruised.
Sophie seemed to be shaken as she grabbed the wrong medicine. I pulled my paw, my head reaching to the set of medicine in her bag. Ever so softly, my nose touched a bottle. “Huh?” She reacted, frowning at what she held before looking back at me. A look of surprise was printed on her face. “I... I mean... you know medicine?”
I nodded, letting her fix me, as I wanted nothing more than to sleep.
The second that she was done, someone had escorted her out. My eyes closed, taking all the hours that I could have for the very second that they let me free by tomorrow; my wolf would then be running again.
This will be our most extended rest for a while now.
