Chapter 13

1362 Words
Mrs. Bola was in the living room downstairs, angry about how Cindy had been behaving. Cindy was her only daughter and child, and even if she thought of conceiving again, by the time the child grew up to Cindy's age, she might have already aged considerably. Mrs. Bola frowned and saw Cindy stepping out from the corridor above. Cindy walked towards the balcony and started coming downstairs to meet her mother, who was sitting on the living room couch. Cindy saw her mother frown at her as she approached and descended the stairs, and she sighed. "Mother, I am going out," Cindy said, but Mrs. Bola didn't reply as she continued shaking her legs angrily. Mrs. Bola was a beautiful Black woman, and one wouldn't believe that she was the one who actually gave birth to Cindy, as she maintained her looks and dressed beautifully too. "Mom..." Cindy called for Mrs. Bola's attention again, and Mrs. Bola merely stared at Cindy and sighed, still wondering if what Cindy had told her about having someone she was in love with was true. "Fine, don't stay out long, and you should be back home on time. Have you given Jeremy a call yet to find out if he got home safely?" Mrs. Bola asked, but Cindy pouted her lips. "Mom..." Cindy looked away and frowned as she held her red purse containing her car keys and phone. "Cindy. Don't tell me you're bent on breaking your father's heart and mine. You should call Jeremy at least to acknowledge his visit here," Mrs. Bola said. "Alright, Mom. I will do that when I return," Cindy finally agreed, wanting to exit the house, but Mrs. Bola refused. "No. Call him now that I am here, because that’s what you will say, and still, you won't call him..." Mrs. Bola insisted. "Mom..." Cindy frowned, but seeing that her mother was serious, she sighed, not wanting to keep a sour mood while she went out to search for Peter. "Okay, Mom." Cindy opened her purse and searched through it, but she realized that she had left Jeremy's card on her bedside drawer after picking it up from the floor. "It's not here, Mom. It's in my room," Cindy said as she shut her purse closed. "Then go back to your room and bring the card, because you will call Jeremy first here in my presence..." "Oh, Mom..." Cindy pouted and stomped her feet on the ground. She finally went back upstairs to get Jeremy's card. Arriving back downstairs, Cindy placed a call to Jeremy, right in front of her mother, and after a few rings, the call connected. "Hello..." Jeremy's deep, masculine voice hit Cindy's eardrum, and she sighed. "Hi, it's me, Cindy calling," she said, and saw her mother smiling sweetly at her in relief. "Oh, my angel. I thought you wouldn't call me. I wasn't expecting your call this early. Thanks," Jeremy replied, surprised, knowing that Cindy's mother had probably insisted. As the Cindy he met wouldn't genuinely call him. "Okay... I was calling to know if you have gotten home already?" Cindy asked. "Yes, I just got home now. Thanks, my angel. I’m on my way inside my mansion." "Okay. That's why I’m calling," Cindy replied. "Alright. But is this your phone contact, right?" Jeremy asked her. "Yes," Cindy replied, and she heard Jeremy say, "Okay, be good. I will call you later so we can discuss." "Okay, bye." Cindy frowned as she took her phone away from her ear and stared at her mother, whose smile brightened. "That's so good of you. Now I'm happy and relieved. You can go out now, but where are you going first?" Mrs. Bola asked with a raised eyebrow, meeting Cindy's gaze. "Mom... I’m going..." Cindy couldn't tell her mother about Peter yet, so she quickly lied and said, "I'm going out to see Lora. We already spoke on the phone, and I told her I was coming." "That's fine. Don't stay out too late. I'm planning to go out too, but I don't want to leave only Esther alone in this house. So you should be back on time before I leave." "Okay, Mom." Cindy didn't have the time to ask her mother where she wanted to head out to, as she knew her mother had a lot of business friends, coupled with the fact that her mother was managing all her father's companies, she wouldn’t pry. "Alright, Mom. I won't stay out long." Cindy approached her mother, who was still sitting on the couch in their living room. She playfully kissed her mother's right cheek, leaving Mrs. Bola shocked, unable to understand the sudden switch in Cindy's attitude. In one minute, Cindy was calm and lovely; the next, she was ruthless and mean. Mrs. Bola shook her head as she watched Cindy quickly exit the mansion. She sighed and went back to watching the television in the living room while thinking of the handsome man who had once helped her carry her bag of groceries. "Gosh... I don't do this.... But it seems that handsome guy wants me to cheat on my husband and have him as my sugar boy. I'm sure Cindy will be back before evening so I can head out to search for him," Mrs. Bola said, as she relaxed back on the couch, watching television, though her mind wasn't on it. Ever since Mrs. Bola saw Peter, she felt excited, and she hadn't felt like that in ages. Mrs. Bola wondered why her heart was beating like a young lady in love, and she didn’t know how to approach Peter about it again. She didn’t know Peter’s name, but he had clearly rejected her s****l advances. She assumed she wasn't the only woman asking him out, because he was a fine man. "How can a man be so handsome and attractive like that and yet poor?" Mrs. Bola frowned, asking herself. "But he looks responsible. If not, I’m sure he must have had about a million sugar mamas by his side, and he wouldn’t even be there on the road helping different people. And he speaks so fluently too. Let me just wait for Cindy to return home first. If Cindy marries off to Jeremy now, at least I will rest from her, and Esther will be going back to school. I will have time to mingle with him without worrying about Cindy or Esther being around," Mrs. Bola thought to herself as she smiled and relaxed comfortably on her couch, thinking of all the lovely places she would love to hang out with the handsome man she saw, her heart still beating with affection for Peter. *** However, Cindy exited their mansion and decided to drive a black car, since they obviously had a lot of cars parked. Driving slowly, Cindy was in a contemplative mood, unsure how Peter would react to her advances again, but she was determined to search for him. Whether Peter wanted her or not, she would force him into a relationship. Cindy smiled as she drove out of their luxurious estate and made her way to the market area, where she knew men like Peter worked, helping different people carry their loads despite it being Sunday. Cindy smiled faintly, approaching a man she saw dripping sweat from carrying a heavy bag of rice. She parked to the side and waited for the dark, fearsome-looking man to finish his task. Tom was done carrying bags for a lady who had paid him for his services, and when he turned to leave. He meet the gaze of the beauty goddess staring at him, he thought, {Wow... let it be that this pretty lady is here to ask me out.} Tom changed his posture and composed himself as he walked up to meet Cindy, who had her eyes fixed on him as he approached. "Hi... excuse me," Cindy called out to Tom. Tom composed himself and walked up majestically towards her. "Hi... How may I help you?" Tom asked in a deep, husky voice, startling Cindy, who kept an expressionless face, wondering if Tom was trying to seduce her.
