Remembering how she had broken up with her last boyfriend, David, Cindy laughed out loud in her bathroom. That was the first time any of her boyfriends had asked her for such a thing. When she had told her best friend, Lora Adams, about it,
Lora's mother owned a private polytechnic, and Lora told her it wasn’t bad; most lovers did it.
Cindy couldn't believe what Lora said, as Lora was the only child of her single mother. Lora had told her that many ladies also performed o******x on their boyfriends, and it was an old practice to keep their relationships sweet.
"Gross! And you expect me to do that? I’m sure David is cheating on me!" Cindy remembered her response to Lora, shaking her head as she washed her face in the bathroom.
"Calm down, girlfriend. If you love David enough, then you won’t be shy to do that with him," Lora had replied.
"No, no. I cannot and I will never do that," Cindy responded, recalling her subtle banter on the phone with Lora.
Cindy finally walked out of her bathroom, dried her wet body with a white towel, and then picked out the nightgown she would wear as night fell.
Cindy chose a light milk-colored nightgown and stepped out of her room, finally heading downstairs to have dinner with her mother.
In the living room, she saw her mother sitting on the couch, waiting for her. When Cindy entered, her mother stood up and walked to the dining room to sit.
Soon, Esther stepped out from the kitchen, serving their dinner along with bowls of water for them to wash their hands before she sat beside Mrs. Bola.
Cindy sighed as she sat across from her mother and Esther. Just as she was about to eat the delicious okra soup in front of her, her mother said, "Bless the meal, Cindy."
Cindy frowned, staring at her mom and Esther. After a moment, she finally blessed the meal, and they began to eat.
Mrs. Bola didn’t say anything to Cindy again, even after dinner ended, as she knew she had failed to train Cindy properly as a mother. Raising a child wasn’t easy.
She thought about advising Cindy regarding marrying Jeremy and decided to let Cindy rest first before preparing to meet him the following Sunday, as the notice came late.
Cindy had experienced a lot of failed relationships, and Mrs. Bola was well aware of it. Those relationships had all been arranged, and now she was determined to speak to Cindy because she wanted her daughter to settle down soon and give her grandchildren.
Mrs. Bola had accepted Cindy dating at the age of 20, and now she believed it was best to agree with her husband about the arranged marriage since Cindy's arrogance toward the men she had recently dated was excessive.
Mrs. Bola knew that Cindy's behavior as a woman might affect her relationships if her aloofness continued. Most men want caring and sweet partners, not a strict, cold young lady like her daughter.
After finishing dinner, Mrs. Bola sighed, washed her hands, and so did Cindy and Esther. Cindy stood up from the dining table and said to her mother, "Goodnight, Mom."
"Goodnight, dear. But you haven’t cleared your plate to the kitchen, Cindy. Remember, Esther isn’t a maid," Mrs. Bola reminded her, and Cindy paused to stare back at her mother.
"Alright, Mom," Cindy said, feeling in a good mood. She walked up to the dining table and cleared her used plate and bowl of water to the kitchen.
After walking out from the kitchen, Cindy headed upstairs to her room to rest, as she wanted to chat with her best friend, Lora Adams.
Lora's birthday was the following day, and Cindy knew that all of Lora's birthdays were usually celebrated in her mother’s home. They had been friends for five years since they were in university.
Lora's mother was a single mom, and after graduating, Lora decided to join her mother in teaching at the polytechnic instead of searching for a job. Lora had studied mathematics, while Cindy was a law student.
Cindy remembered when she first met Lora. Although Lora was a year ahead of her in school, they were the same age, and she accepted Lora's invitation to become friends after Lora approached her.
Lora was very friendly and had many friends, especially compared to Cindy, who was mostly aloof and hardly interacted with anyone.
Mrs. Bola stood up from the dining table and went to her room to rest; she was home alone in the big house. She decided to watch television in her bedroom and check any dating websites to see if she could make new friends.
Mrs. Bola recalled the handsome man she had seen at the marketplace who once helped her carry her grocery bags. Although cheating on her husband wasn’t in her nature,
she thought about him again and how difficult it was to approach him and suggest starting a friendship. She hesitated to express her feelings to him. After much contemplation, Mrs. Bola had called him over one day and explained her feelings, but he rejected her, despite her promise of a large sum of money to become her sugar boy.
Mrs. Bola was leading a lonely life and hated the fact that her husband was being transferred from one state to another. With only Cindy as her child, she felt the absence of a larger family. She knew she wasn't infertile, as her family doctor had reassured her that she and her husband were fine, but it was difficult for them to conceive after just one encounter.
Mrs. Bola feared that her husband might have a baby mama somewhere, but he had never brought up the topic of remarrying, even when family members suggested it.
Mr. Donald William was more focused on his business and his job as a commissioner. Although he knew his wife wanted more children, he felt it wasn't his or her fault, and he intended to leave all his assets to Cindy.
Mrs. Bola controlled the family company, while her husband worked in the police department and Cindy was a barrister.
After a while, Mrs. Bola sighed and began browsing the internet and her social media pages, hoping to connect with new friends online.

Cindy later retreated to her bedroom and sat on her bed, continuing to think about the handsome man she saw earlier that day.
Rolling onto her bed, she murmured, "What if I don’t get to see the man again?"
Cindy frowned and said, "Gosh! I just wish I could see him again. Maybe I should just go back to that shopping mall and pretend like I want to buy something tomorrow. That way, we can definitely meet again, and I’ll ask him out. But he stinks..."
Cindy recalled her reason for insulting the man, frowning again and biting her lower lip as she thought of contacting Lora to discuss her turmoil.
Seeing that her room clock showed almost 10 PM, Cindy whispered, "No... How do I explain to Lora that I’ve fallen for a poor, wretched man? She’s going to laugh at me with that silly cracking laughter. No, I cannot."
Cindy shook her head, and after much contemplation, she dropped her phone on the bed, knowing that Lora would be preparing for her birthday celebration the next day. Sighing, she decided to surf the internet and check if she had any new friend requests on social media.
Cindy had many followers because she uploaded cute, charming pictures of herself. Some silly men admired her photos, especially in her mostly fitted outfits, as she didn’t typically wear anything too revealing.
Cindy pouted her lips; she wasn't interested in her new online friends—she was only interested in one man.
"Oh, come on!" Cindy exclaimed as she dropped her phone back into her bedside drawer, then walked to her bathroom to urinate before finally retiring back to sleep.
