Dreign, who was in the open area, realized something was off.
A blip in his phone, a location of a nearby player near the vicinity. No indication or sign of movement.
Where could he possibly be?
Staying in the open area packed with people was a cover, but if the other player was as trained as Anastasia, he or she could identify him in the middle of the crowd.
He can say it with confidence. After all, he learned it in the military.
To locate one person in the middle of the crowd is an easy task for an experienced soldier, especially those who are serving in covert operations.
So it has its pros and cons and Dreign hoped that this player is an ordinary one.
Finding out the exact location of the player lurking nearby is his main priority.
Bringing up the map of the area, Dreign was able to figure out the exact location.
The player is in some sort of a building 400 meters away north of him.
North of his position, there are four high-rise buildings. It was a condominium owned by the same entity that owned this mall.
Could it be—
Dreign realized it and immediately ran away into the crowds.
The player is in one of the four buildings.
…
At the same time, the man peeking through his scope mused. “Oh? Did he realize huh? As expected of the participants of this game. They are not mindless and ignorant fools who got themselves caught in a situation they don’t know. This is amusing, he is very proper…”
He traced his movements using the scope of his sniper. Not having a bead on him, he just followed his trail so that he can figure out where he’ll be headed using the map.
Disappearing in his sight, the man packed up the sniper and prepared to leave his unit.
…
Back at Dreign.
His phone rang.
An upcoming call from Mr. Sanchez. Dreign swiped the call icon.
“Mr. Saludo, good job on getting your first kill in this game.” Sanchez congratulated. “I know that you can do it, you’ve just killed the best assassin of Russia.”
“No, I was just lucky that she got distracted. Why are you calling all of a sudden?”
“Oh, I just wanted to say hi to you. And congratulating you on your first kill as well. So you receive fifteen million dollars by killing one player, what do you plan to do next? Kill another?”
“It's none of your business, I’ll play the game my way,” Dreign said coldly.
“Oh, I see. I’m looking forward to your achievements. Good luck hunting.” Sanchez said and hung up the phone.
Dreign who was running in the street attracted the attention of several individuals.
They were watching the news about the recent disruption in the mall and in the street of Quezon Avenue.
Since he’s been running with his phone and gun and the fact these people live near the mall, they have reason to believe that Dreign is part of this sudden trail of events.
This event was also caught the attention of the Quezon City Police who are now en-route in the location of the shootout.
But they were late, as expected of the traffic in Metro Manila that has been a problem for over a decade, they caught nothing.
….
Puffing in the side, Dreign was kind of exhausted at this point. Looking for a drug store nearby that will tend his wounds.
After running for almost ten minutes, he was able to locate one.
He approached it and asked for the product he’s looking for.
“What do you need?” The clerk of the drugstore asked.
“Uhm, I need alcohol, bandages, and some antibiotics please.”
“Coming right up!”
The store clerk put his order in the small tray and handed it to him.
“That’ll be 89 pesos.”
Dreign put his hand on his pocket and fished something—There’s one problem. He doesn’t have money!
Yes, he remembered, it was at the time before the game started where he had to hand out everything in him to Sanchez. His wallet was part of it.
Without money, he can’t do simple transactions such as buying things he badly needed.
The store clerk looked at him with concern, “Sir are you okay? You’re bleeding here and there.”
“Yes, I encountered some thieves on the way and beat me. Sadly, my wallet was taken by those thugs. So I was wondering if I can have this for now and pay it later when I get back home?”
“Uhm…sir I’m afraid I can’t do that. You see, I don’t even know who you are, and most of the people who said that didn’t even bother to return…”
“Please…I’m begging you!”
“Sorry sir but no can do. I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.”
Dreign clicked his tongue and turned back, annoyed at the rules of the game. They can buy weapons and yet they can’t buy basic necessities such as food and medicine…
Wait—
Now that he thinks about it, he remembered a word from Sanchez. If a player needs money, he can acquire it in any way they like, no matter the methods.
But the store clerk is just doing his job, if he were to threaten him with guns, that would escalate real bad.
But he needs something to tend his wounds, if he were to not treat his wounds, it’ll be like asking for death from other players who are in their top condition.
He turned around and approached the store clerk again.
“Sir, I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to have those medicines,” Dreign said in a serious tone as he waved his pistol.
The store clerk smirked. “Hmph, pellet gun won’t work sir, please leave or I’ll chase you out…”
*Bang!
An ear-deafening roar sounded and the store clerk jolted in shock.
“Does this look like a pellet gun to you? Hand me that medicine now. Look, you choose, your life or that 89 pesos worth of goods?”
“You’ll kill a person over 89 pesos worth of goods?”
“I’ve killed a lot of people…” he said coldly, “So sir, please just have it over and we’re done.”
“Okay, you can have it! Don’t come back ever again!”
“I will not. Anyways, I need a bottle of water as well.”
…
Ending the transaction and a successful robbery, Dreign began to walk away from the scene as he just exposed himself to a lot of attraction.
Firing a gun in the middle of the street would surely make people panic and they would run away from him.
First, he just has to find a good hiding spot where he can tend his wounds.
But—
In a later distant, depressingly loud siren was blaring from a distance.
“s**t…”
Dreign’s feared that this could happen. He can’t run away because of his injury and exhaustion. There’s no way he can outrun a police car in a wide road without an alley.
It was basically an open road with no way to escape.
“Looks like your luck has run out sir…” said the store clerk, mocking him.
“Really? Well, I don’t think so.” Dreign removed the cap of the bottled water and gulped it in one drink.
Releasing a satisfied sigh, Dreign placed his suitcase down on the ground and opened it.
The store clerk’s eyes widened in surprise.
An assault rifle, A QCB to be exact, was extracted from the suitcase.
Dreign put a full-load magazine and c****d it.
He walked in the middle of the street and faced the police with a stoic expression.
The police who are inside their car noticed the gun he was carrying and called out for reinforcement.
“Suspect is heavily-armed! Requesting backup.”
There are two cars, each carrying two people. Meaning there are four of them equipped with standard-issued Glock-17.
To win the game, one must survive in three days without getting killed and the other one is not getting caught by law enforcement.
Doing so will be a violation of the rules.
Dreign doesn’t know the punishment if he were to violate it but he doesn’t want to find out either. Because he will win this game and get out with a copious amount of money in his assets.
With his QRB, Dreign sprayed bullets at the police cars coming at him. It reacted, stopped, and turned sideways.
Dreign doesn’t want to kill the officers as it will be a troublesome predicament in the future. So what he needed to do is just incapacitate them to the point they can’t chase him.
Dreign reloaded and moved to cover.
The policemen returned fire but hit nothing but the cars Dreign was using for cover.
Ready to respond, Dreign unleashed the power of the sophisticated assault rifle in his hand. Bullets hailed upon the police car, creating several holes in its body.
The policemen ducked as they called for reinforcement and prioritized them.
Seconds later, the onslaught stopped and the policeman took a peek, their legs shaking from fear.
Scanning the area, the suspect was gone.
