Kane Augustus's POV
She looked at my message but never replied. I smiled and shut my eyes, trying to fall back to sleep. I had a big case tomorrow I needed to work on and I didn't need any more distractions. A famous publisher had hired me to prevent some scum from trying to sue him. Like what the hell?
"Did you get in touch with her?!" Dallas yelled very loudly across the house. I chuckled and shook my head. "Yeah! Thanks baby sis!" I hollered back. Hearing her squeal made me smile.
I ended up telling her about the woman when I decided I couldn't sleep. When I described her to Dallas, it was like she knew exactly who I was talking about. She pulled up a picture of a model named Adelina Cortez and I nearly had a heart attack.
Sighing, I tossed and turned until my eyelids finally drifted shut, letting the darkness consume me.
Before I knew it, it was morning. It came way too fast. My alarm sounded beside my bed and I groaned in annoyance, swinging my arm to shut it off.
Sitting up, I sighed and took a deep breathe. I got up and made my way to the bathroom so I could shower and meet up with Mr. André. I heard he was working on a new book and was being pressured about other issues. Maybe I could help him in that department as well.
After my shower, I dressed myself and called Mr. André's office.
"Hello, André's Publishing, Sereia speaking. How may I help you?" A woman asked from the other line.
"Hello Miss Sereia, I'm Kane Augustus. I'm scheduled to meet with Mr. André today. Could you please inform him I'll be there shortly? We never disclosed a time," I said politely.
"Yes sir. I'll tell him. He'll be expecting you. Have a good day," she said and I bid her a good day as well.
I arrived at his office minutes later and parked my car. I made my way inside and to the floor with his office. A beautiful woman with long hair and a gorgeous body looked up and smiled.
"Mr. Augustus?" She asked and I nodded. "Yes ma'am. Is he ready?" I asked and she nodded. "Right this way," she said and gestured for me to follow.
I've heard a rumor that Mr. André liked his personal assistant a little too much. I didn't blame him. She was breathtaking. The way her hips swayed reminded me of my beauty. I'd have to reach out to her today.
Sereia opened a door and smiled. "You may go in," she said and walked away. "Hello Nicolas," I said as I approached him. "Hi Kane. Thanks for meeting with me. This bastard is trying to say I didn't forewarn that I didn't publish romance novels," Nicolas said in aggravation.
"Don't worry. Once he arrives, he's going to take a plea and leave you alone. This will not go any further than here," I told him, causing him to smirk.
"Very confident man," he said and I smirked. "You have to be in this business," I informed him. He chuckled but his smile faded when he heard a knock on the door.
"Come in!" He said loudly and his personal assistant walked in. The look in his eyes was one of man who staked claim without knowing. She would be the end of him. As he would be for her as well.
"Mr. Smith is here. He has stated he didn't want nor need a lawyer present," she said. "I even recorded it," she added with a smile.
"Very well," I said with a wave of my hand. "Send him in," Nicolas said and Sereia nodded. She looked as if she wanted to bite his head off for some reason. I chuckled to myself before composing myself back to a professional state.
"Mr. Smith. Please sit," I told him when he walked in. "So I'm going to ask once, are you sure you want to pursue this?" I asked.
"Wait," I said. "Don't answer yet. Let me inform you of the charges against you and what will happen if we go to trial." I opened my folder, holding the case's information.
Case Number: 0035672
Client: Nicolas André
Filed charges against: Christian Smith
Charges: Malicious destruction of property, Malicious destruction of personal property, and Vandalism
"So Christian, you are being charged with Malicious Destruction of Property, Malicious Destruction of Personal Property, and Vandalism," I said calmly.
His eyes went big and he swallowed hard. "That's crazy!" He yelled in anger. "Mr. Smith, please sit. I'm not finished speaking," I told him with a calm yet loud voice that clearly stated I meant business.
"The MDOP Charge could either be a misdemeanor or felony. If charged with misdemeanor you'll face ninety three days in jail with a five hundred dollar fine. For a felony, you're facing one year of imprisonment with a two thousand dollar fine," I told him.
"Should I continue on?" I asked with a smirk. "No!" He said rather quickly. "I'll plead guilty to a misdemeanor for distraction of property!" He said, well begged.
"Mr. André?" I asked. He smirked and nodded. "Very well," he said and smiled. "We will be in touch with a court date. You're free to go," I said to Christian.
"I'll be reaching out about my personal assistant and a contract. I want to hire her as my wife," Nic informed me. "I'll be waiting," I said with a smile.
"Take care Kane." I nodded. "You too." I walked out and stopped in front of Sereia's desk. "He wants you," I told her and winked. A blush tented her cheeks and I chuckled before walking away.
