Chapter ThirteenIn the town of Twin Buttes all seemed quiet, the townsfolk dispersed, the streets deserted. Looking through the front window, absently cleaning a wine glass, Tabatha wondered if she needed to move on. A little under a month before, she came into town on the back of an old mule, her horse having died under her as she pushed the poor animal too hard in the snow. She found the mule at the first ranch she came to. No one else milled about. Most folk were either dead, or had moved back east, the frontier too tough for them.
