The next few days wound up being so close to boring that Ren began to think he’d made a mistake. He knew it was too soon to attempt a lot of snooping. He had to win Mendoza’s trust, or at least as much of it as the drug lord gave any of his underlings. That meant keeping a relatively low profile and behaving in a manner just short of subservient. A good bodyguard would not be timid or overly humble, but he also kept his nose out of the boss’s business. Fortunately, Ren was skilled at putting the best face on things and could outwardly change like a chameleon to fit in wherever he needed to. The near-idleness created another problem, though.
