Chapter 9 RJ swore. A pebble in his shoe made him stop and unlace his running shoes. The sun brightened the dark horizon, and he knew sunrise would happen in minutes if not seconds. He hated running in this compound, circling the boring brown nothingness, but these early morning or late evening runs when the sun wasn’t up were the only times to get away from the sun’s rays. He didn’t get much sleep last night, determined to come up with a game plan if Pad accepted his friend request. Being rejected was not an option. Over the last few days, he’d thought about Pad more often. He couldn’t sleep the first night after Pad left, and had used three pillows next to him as Pad’s replacement.
