I woke up with a start, gasping for air as if I'd just escaped from a nightmare. But as I looked around and saw the soft light filtering in through the windows, I realized that I was no longer in the dream.
I was still alive, and the danger had passed. ‘’ Draven,’’ I looked around expecting to see Draven, but he was nowhere to be found.
Lady Emma was seated beside me, watching me with concern."How are you feeling?" she asked, her voice soft and soothing. "You gave us quite a scare."
"I'm okay," I managed to say, my voice hoarse. "Just a little shaken up, that's all."
Emma nodded, but I could tell she wasn't entirely convinced. "And Draven?" I asked, searching the room for any sign of the vampire king.
