I stared hard at my face in the mirror and noticed the uncertainty in my eyes. There was not any single energy nor excitement in my body by the thought of going to school today. I was really anxious of what is going to happen and how students were going to treat me.
"Lily," Mother knocked outside my bedroom door. "Hurry up, you are going to be late. Your dad is already waiting outside,"
"Yes Mom," a huge sigh escaped my mouth. I grabbed my bag and went out of my room.
"Why are you wearing that again?" Mother asked in confusion. She was looking at me from my head, to my toes. Well, I'm wearing simple clothes like sweater, skinny jeans and my no grade eyeglasses.
In the past few years I have chosen to have a low profile in school. I'm hiding from people's critical eyes and pretend to be a nerd. You know, to avoid asssociating myself with any predators. I mean, those type of students who belong to popular group like Queen Bee, Cheerleaders, Athletes etc.
"But Mom..."
" I have told you not to pretend to be like a nerd. People are going to tease and bully you,"
"They don't," I adjusted my glasses. "People would think I'm no one. Just an ordinary and typical student,"
Mother shook her and handed me a money. "Take it. Just in case you meet a friends and decide to eat out,"
"Thank you Mom," I took the money and hug her "I have to go. Bye!"
"If you meet a--"
"I will introduce her to you," I cut my mother off. Mother always reminded me that if I meet a girl that I like, she should be the first person who needs to know. "Love you!"
"Bye honey!"
The cold wind blew my face when I left the house. Trees are swaying like they were dancing into heavenly music. Some of the leaves were slowly falling and gently laid down the ground. This beautiful sight set my heart at peace and my mind at ease. I opened the passenger seat side and sat down.
"Seatbelt please," Father said as we started driving slowly. "I need to buy you a car," there is a frown in his face. "So you can go anywere you want,"
"Really dad?" I could not contained the excitement. Actually, I was really asking them to buy me a car so they don't have to worry about me going to school or anywhere. "I would really appreciate if you guys buy me one,"
"Just promise to finish high school," It is feels like Father gave me a condition which I would not mind. "No boyfriend,"
"Definetly no boyfriend," I told him with a smug face.
"But you are getting yourself a girlfriend," Father gave me an amusing smile. "But make sure she is not going to hurt you Lily because i swear.."
"This is why i am still single," I told my father that made him snort. "I was scared that you guys are going to scare and torture the girl,"
"Lily, my dear one," Father said in a sing song voice but his eyes were too focus on the road. "We are trying to protecting you,"
"I know dad," I said, pressing the side of head against the window and concentrated outside. The forest slowly disappeared and replaced by modern establishment. People are really busy doing everyday activities. "Can we finally settle down here in California?"
Father gave me a sideway glance. "Do you like here?"
This is my first time here in California and I do not have any idea what to see here, go to, eat and most importantly is how people will treat me.
"Well, I like our house, the nature and the weather."
Father fell silent and i could see that he was thinking with those long and deep lines drawn on his forehead. Deep inside I know my parents are also tired from moving. They needed a break from work and enjoy life. Our car slowly stopped in front of the huge, old but elegant three storey building. They said this is one of the best and popular High School here.
"Call me if anything happens okay Lily," Father said. "Well, with your disguise people will not even notice you," there was a smile in his voice.
"Okay dad," I grabbed my bag and slowly opening the door. "I just want to finish high school,"
"Then you can follow your Mom's footsteps," Father told me without blinking. I turned to face him when i heard what he said. Since before he wanted me to try the modeling but I was not really sure about it. "With your beauty and elegance Lily. I can say that you can outdo and transcend whatever your mother accomplishes,"
"I'm not closing my door to my future opportunities," I paused and frowned. "But school first,"
Father gave me a huge smile. "Very well then Lily," he hug me. "Good luck and be careful," he pulled away. "Love you,"
"I love you too dad," I said as I went out of the car. "Drive safe!" I slammed the door and watched my father's car drift away. I took a very deep, long breath and walked quietly inside the school. Some students are still outside their classroom, some were talking happily and most of them are looking at me like a piece of hot meat. Luckily I immediately saw the registrar. "Excuse me,"
An old woman who wears a thick glasses looked at me. "Good morning," her voice was heavy and terrifying. "What can i do for you?"
"I'm the new student," I replied, adjusting my glasses.
The old woman looked down at her computer. "Name?"
"Elizabeth Andersen,"
She did not say anything but started typing on something. "You are lucky that the principal allowed you to attend the class in the middle of the year because of your good grades and special circumstances," I was about to say when she handed me the computerized copy of my schedule and key to my locker. "Welcome to Creighton,"
"Thank you Maam," I said gratefully. The old woman smile back at me. I looked at my schedule. I have just three classes. Not bad. Well because I took some minor subject every summer. My eyes started to wandered. Most of the classes and main administration buildings are central to one area, sort of like a giant square. It makes it quite easy to make it from class to class, and everything, including the sports fields are nearby.
"Move away!"
I was about to open my locker when i felt something collide on my back, making me hit my forehea against the locker. "Ouch," I muttered under my breath while rubbing the sore spot.
"i***t!" someone hissed. "You are blocking my way Nerdy!"
I did not waste any energy to look or face the obvious queen bee. I'm not looking for any trouble, so I let it go.
"Why so mad so early in the morning Aerin?" i heard someone ask. Her voice is familiar to me, so this time I slowly turned around and saw a beautiful woman wearing a cheerleading uniform. She has two green mesmerizing eyes and strawberry hair.
The blonde haired woman is glaring daggers with her piercing amber eyes at me, "this nerd is blocking my freaking way."
The beautiful cheerleader turned her attention to me. "Ohh.." my face heated up by the way she looked at me. "Why are you wasting your time with that..." her eyes never left my face. "Nerd.."
Sure, I have met a different kinds of Ice Queen, mean cheerleaders etc in the schools I attended these past few years but I was not sure why the words coming from the green eyed girl's mouth made me feel bitter.
"Come on Aerin," the green eyed girl said with a smile on her face as she looped her arm around the other woman's waist. "Lemme cool you down," they walked away and left me dumbfounded.
"Are you okay?" a guy was standing in front of me. He was familiar to me like i already met or seen his face somewhere else. "They were really such a b***h," he was probably talking about the Queen Bee and Cheerleader.
"Yeah," the only words came out from my mouth. I lowered my eyes when i felt some students are still looking at me. "It was my fault,"
"No," the guy stated with a deep frown on his face. I started walking but the guy was following me. "They are really mean and think that they own the school especially us," I fell quiet, I'm not really comfortable talking to a stranger. "Hmm. What is your name?"
Carefully and slowly I walked to the second floor. "Lily,"
"Is that your really name?"
"Elizabeth, I'm Elizabeth Andersen," I replied as sigh in relief when i immediately found my class room. "What about you?"
"Grey Williams," the good looking guy smiled at me, showing his white teeth. "I bet you are a new student," but before i could say anything the bell rang. All students were looking at me when i entered the classroom. "This way Lily," I almost jumped when i felt Grey's hand pressed against my back.
"Thank you," I told him when i sat down on the chair. Grey just smiled at me. Fift sets of eyes were burning holes on my face.
Our teacher came in and holding a paper. "Elizabeth Andersen?" her eyes are scanning around the room. "Is she here?"
I raised my hand. "I'm Elizabeth Andersen,"
The teacher nodded. "Welcome,"then she said. "So let us start--" the red head woman walked in without any words, like she own the place. "You are late again Ms. Williams!"
The cheerleader just shrugged her shoulders. My throat clentched when our eyes met. Was if only me that noticed a tug at the corner of her lips. She wordlessly sat down next to me. So I'm in between her and Grey.
"It is you again," the cheerleader whispered to me but i chose not to say anything.
"Cameron," Grey murmuned. "Don't bother Lily," and out of nowhere a realization hit me about Cameron and Grey. Why they both have the last name. As if Grey read what is going through my mind. "We are twins,"
