Awaited Mate

7. AIDEN'S POV

Our trip to San Francisco was fun. Crystal told us more about herself. I actually learned that she is shy even though she tries to cover it with confidence. 

Maybe being a beta was more than she thought she could handle. After booking a hotel where we're going to spend the night we went sightseeing.

We were having a good time until we reached a town with Phoenix High, it has a scent I feel drawn to, vanilla mixed with a hint of an ocean, a very rare combination but lovely.

I couldn't help but wonder who it belongs to. I know the person it belongs to stays in this town but it was also faint, meaning she's somewhere else.

"Why does your wolf feel restless? I can sense it all the way here and it is making Abhay restless too. What is the matter? Are we not safe here?" Amar asked me as soon as I stopped walking.

"Not exactly. On the contrary, I think he's happy."

"Happy? He doesn't seem to be happy by the way Abhay put it."

"He's not happy that we can't find the person this scent belongs to. But he's happy we're here."

"What scent are you talking about? I'm not smelling anything."

"Vanilla and ocean. You're not smelling that?"

"No Aiden, I'm not. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. I was thinking, I'm not leaving this town until I find out who this scent belongs to. Even if it means staying there for more than a month."

"You can't be serious. What if we're in another pack's territory? Do you want me to remind you that we also have a school to go to? We've missed school for three days remember?"

"I don't care about any of that. The only thing that concerns me right now is finding the owner of that scent and I'm willing to do anything to do just that. So, I'm sorry if I sound crazy to you but we're not leaving this place till we get the answers I'm looking for."

"What do you mean you're willing to do anything? Don't tell me you want to go to that school. That is stupid."

"I know but this is what I can come up with. You said it yourself that we have missed a few days at school and it won't hurt anybody if we attend school here until I can come up with a better solution. I need you to trust me. Once I find what I'm looking for I promise you that we will leave. Please?"

"OK. I guess it will be a good thing to be around here. I can also learn how Americans live so that I'll be able to understand Crystal better."

"Thank you, man. I appreciate it."

"So, Phoenix High then. I can't believe I allowed you to manipulate me into attending a public school and on top of that in a different country."

"Come on, I mean what could be different? Public or private, it's just school to me. Dad will kill me if he ever finds out though."

"You'll live and he will get over it. So what is your plan? What are you going to tell the principal about us studying here for a few days?"

"I don't know really. We never reported anything about going somewhere at school. We have to come up with a believable story that the principal will have no reason to believe we are lying about something."

"I can help with that. Only if you want me to." Crystal said shyly.

"We could use your help, Crystal. I mean you will also attend with us right?"

"If you guys are going to attend then I'll do the same. Amanda's boyfriend is a family friend to the principal. I never really paid any attention to them because I never thought I'll ever need Jesse's help."

"How is he going to help?"

"I can ask Amanda to tell him that we're here for research and we also need to attend school. I think the principal will be just happy to have students from well known high schools attending his school. Trust me on this one."

"I think you're right. Let's just hope it works. Learning hours will be over soon and maybe we can talk to some kids around. Call Amanda and ask her to do just that and we can then go meet the school principal."

Crystal called her alpha and after a few minutes, she called again saying that the principal will be waiting for us. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that Amanda has a boyfriend. I mean what about her mate?

"Eh... Crystal, if you don't mind me asking, Amanda has a boyfriend?"

"No no no, It's not what you think. Jesse is her mate. I'm just used to calling him her boyfriend because he's human and he wants to be addressed as a boyfriend, not a mate."

"Wait, so he knows?"

"Yeah, they started dating before Amanda shifted. Jesse wouldn't leave Amanda's side no matter what. He had no idea what was happening but he always said he was drawn to her. Love at first sight he said. She was 10 when they met and he was 14.

Once Amanda got tired of trying to get rid of him and always saying she would never have anything to do with anybody except her mate, she gave in, fell hard, and here they are. Insanely in love with each other and mates. They are just waiting for her to turn 18 before they mate and get married. I always wonder what would have happened if they weren't mates."

"It would've been a huge mess. Let's go before we piss off the principal."

We went to the principal's office and he was happy to have us around. I guess meeting Amanda and Crystal was a blessing. He gave us our schedules and the list of things that we're going to need to get.

We're starting school tomorrow and I have a feeling I'm going to like it here. After that, we went to rent an apartment where we're going to stay for the time being.

It's not something fancy but I guess it's good for us to not draw attention to ourselves.
