5. SAMANTHA'S POV

1094 Words
This week will be a very busy week for me, I thought the math competition was in three weeks but all of that changed at the last minute. Apparently, we were misinformed since the invitation letter sent to my school by the competition directors last year clearly states that the competition starts Monday. So today I am supposed to leave school early so that I will start preparing for it. I'll be leaving for New York this coming Saturday and I'll be having these three days to prepare, starting from today. I know Mama will be a darling and pack for me, so I can use this time to study. Math needs practising if you want to pass it. It is different from other subjects so you can't handle it the same way you handle other subjects. It's what my father always told me as a kid. I'll never forget his words. After my first period which was chemistry, the principal told me that dad will be coming to pick me up so I don't have to attend the following class, just to save time. I quickly went to the parking lot to wait for my dad. After waiting for a few minutes he arrived, I went straight to him. I'm always happy to see my dad, even though I saw him when I left for school. My dad is very good looking, he has bright blue eyes, black hair, and high cheekbones.  "Always happy to see me." My dad chuckled.  "You can't blame me, father. You're the best dad ever." I said as I put my seatbelt on. "Well, I'm flattered. My princess always has a nice thing to say to me every day. How was school?" He said starting the car and we left school. "Dad, I had only one class. You should at least ask me how was my class?" I said laughing. He also laughed along with me, "Well that's true. How was your class then drama queen?" "It was fine. I'll miss school though. I can't believe that I've only been at school for a day and a half and I'm leaving already. It feels like everything is changing for me this year." "Of course everything is changing princess. You are about to finish school, choose a career, plan your life in a different city or country, and learn to live without your family. It won't be easy but you'll learn to adjust, we all did. There's nothing as beautiful as independence. I know you'll be fine. Right now though focus on your competition and nothing else. I know you'll do great and make me proud. I believe in you and you know that." "How did this conversation change? I definitely wasn't expecting that. Thank you though. It means a lot to me. I can't really imagine what I would be without you." I said hugging his arm, I just wish he wasn't driving so that I could give him a full hug. "Well, you have a brother that loves and will do anything for you. And you also have two mothers." He shrugged. I know he was containing his laughter. My dad is well aware that my mother is a shitty mother but still he will never say it out loud. I know sometimes he questions himself why he even dated or married her in the first place. "Dad you don't have to do that you know. We both know that if my mother were to raise I wouldn't be who I am today. This is all Mama and Kiera's mother's good work. You don't have to spare my feelings. I know if you knew that my mother was going to turn out like this you wouldn't have dated her or married her, let alone getting her pregnant." "Hey, don't say that okay? If you are going to be a result of our relationship I would date your mother and marry her a thousand times just to have you. You're my everything alright. You mean the world to me. I don't call you my treasure or princess for nothing. It's because you are my treasure. My princess. Don't you forget that?" I didn't realize that he even stopped the car. "Your mother decided to be the way she is because she only cares about herself and not anyone. Her behaviour shouldn't make you feel any less of yourself. I won't allow any of that." "Thank you, dad. You're making me emotional though." I said wiping the lone tear that decided to fall on my cheeks. "Please let's go now. I promise you that I will never think any less of myself. I'll just carry myself with pride and keep my head held up high because I am my father's daughter. I am his treasure." I smiled at him. He just made my day. "That's my girl. Now let's go home because your mother has been baking ever since the principal called to say the dates have changed. She said she doesn't want her only daughter to get hungry while she's away and ends up missing home." "That's so sweet. I'll still miss home though." True to my father's words, mama was busy baking when we arrived. We were welcomed by the delicious smell of cookies, muffins, and cupcakes. She's very good in the kitchen, to be honest, it's like she went to a culinary school or baking school because she can do absolutely anything. From cooking, baking to making various juices, and homemade wines. Everything. I always tell her to open a restaurant or a winery but she always says she's just happy cooking for us besides she has a business. She owns an international company that produces and sells skin products. "You know you didn't have to bake all of this Ma. I'll have everything I want there. Dad told me you insisted." "My daughter deserves the best of everything. Besides, I doubt that the hotel you'll be staying at has cookies better than your own mother's. You also love my cookies. So of course I had to bake them for you." "Ma, you know no one makes better cookies than you but if I eat these there then I'll just miss you guys more. Wouldn't want to be homesick in the most important journey in my life." "Oh, I'm sorry angel. I didn't look at it that way. Look, you don't have to take a lot if you don't want to. A few will make me happy. Please baby?" "Ok, ma I will. Anything for you."
