“Where do you think you’re going?” Mack asked me as I was making my way to the couch to sleep. “I’m going to sleep. I don’t want to deal with you or your monstrous ways,” I snapped. “If you want to sleep, you’ll have to sleep in my bed. There’s no way I’m letting you sleep on the couch.” He stated as he walked over to me. “No.” I shook my head. “I’m not sleeping in your bed, and definitely not when you’re there. I’m taking the couch.” Mack’s eyes hardened and I swallowed down a lump of fear as I gazed at him. I couldn’t show weakness in front of him. If I did, then he’d continue to use it against me until he took whatever he wanted from me. I had to be strong for myself. “Change your clothes and get in bed. I will not repeat myself,” he ordered. I knew he’d punish me if I disobeyed him, but I didn’t need his mercy. It would only confuse me of his intentions. As long as I saw him as the devil he was I’d be okay. “This is all I have to wear since you refuse to let me go home. So I don’t need to change anything and for the last time I’m sleeping on the couch,” I snarled. “You’ll wear something of mine,” he stated before disappearing into his closet which was literally a whole other room. He emerged a moment later with a T-shirt in his hands. Considering how tall he was I was sure the shirt would be grazing my knees. “Put this on and get in bed. I’ll be back in five minutes.” I watched him leave the room before huffing and storming into his closet, which sure enough, was as big as his room with more clothes than I could count. What did he do with so many clothes? I quickly removed my dress and threw on his T-shirt, which fell to my knees as expected. I didn’t want to wear anything of his but I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep with the dress on, so I caved. But not anymore. As soon as I got out, I sighed in relief when I didn’t see him. And without wasting a second, threw myself on the couch, but not before grabbing the fleece throw hanging from the corner. I covered myself with the blanket and closed my eyes, hoping I could fall asleep before Mack returned. It’ll be a miracle if you can sleep in the enemy’s room at all. But I had to try. This was my life now and I couldn’t ignore my health for the sake of my pride. I was stupidly arrogant sometimes but not this stupid. Sleep took a moment to come, but it eventually did and I smiled as I surrendered myself to it, glad to know that Mack couldn’t do anything to me while I slept. He’d just have to accept the fact that I would never sleep in his bed. ~*~*~*~* My eyes opened to a new day with the sun pouring through the windows. I yawned and stretched, feeling cozy under the thick duvet and the mattress which felt like I was lying on a cloud. Wait! Mattress? I bolted upright and my jaw dropped when I found myself in Mack’s bed. I looked at the couch where I was sure I went to sleep. How did I get here? I didn’t sleep walk all the way to his bed. I couldn’t have. I didn’t do that. So what happened? The answer came in the form of my new Master stepping out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel around his waist. I shrieked and covered my eyes with my hands as I waited for him to go and put some clothes on. But I managed to get a glimpse of his chiseled chest which looked like it was carved from marble by an exceptionally great artist. The water droplets trailing every ridge and curve had my mouth watering. But I quickly wiped that image from my mind and focused on why I hated him. “You’re not supposed to cover your eyes, Nia. I want you to see me,” Mack said. “I’m not interested. Go put some clothes on. I need answers,” I replied, with my hands still covering my eyes. Silence reigned thick and heavy around me and I yelped when his hands wrapped around my wrists and he pulled my hands away, leaving me no choice but to open my eyes and look at him. I sighed in relief as I took in the dark green shirt and beige pants he was now wearing. The scent of his cologne had my stomach growling, which I hoped he didn’t hear. “Don’t ever look away from me, Delphinia. You belong to me now and I’m the only man you’re going to look at. Is that clear?” He said and I rolled my eyes. I knew he was serious and if I didn’t do as he said I’d be in trouble. “And what will happen if I do look another man?” He stared at my hands as his thumbs ran over my skin. “You’ll be responsible for a lot of massacres.” I rolled my eyes. “You’re ridiculous. Mark my words, Mack, you’re not going to kill anyone, do you understand? I swear I’ll hurt you so bad if you do.” His lips twitched as he suppressed his laughter. “You’ll hurt me? How?” “First you answer my question. How did I get here when I know I slept on the couch?” I threw at him. His eyebrow rose in much the same way Aston’s often did. “I told you to sleep in my bed, so how do you think you ended up in it?” Before my mind could look for an answer he spoke, “I put you in it. You’re a deep sleeper, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m glad I was able to carry you to my bed without you waking up, but at the same time it made me realize that I need to keep an eye on you so no one can take you from me.” “Why and who would dare do such a thing? I’m the only one who wants to get away from you,” I said. “Somebody can try. But they’ll never succeed. You’ll always stay with me.” He paused and continued to stare at my hands. “You’re going to sleep in my bed from now on.” He locked his amber eyes with mine. “If you don’t, then I’ll have your Mother join the kitchen staff for the rest of her life. Defy me again and your Father will be next.” I shot him a menacing glare but it had no effect on him. “Stay away from my family. You own me, not them.” “My Father owns your family and if I tell him to put two of them to work he will. So be careful about disobeying me. Now get ready for the day. Your clothes are here. You have ten minutes. We’ll have breakfast together and then I have to go to work,” he ordered. I really wanted to stay in bed just to defy him but I cared too much about my parents to make him follow through with his words. I shot him a haughty scowl before throwing the duvet aside and getting out of bed. I stormed into the bathroom and quickly did my business, while doing my best to ignore how gorgeous his bathroom was, complete with his and her sinks, a jacuzzi bathtub and a shower stall which was operated via a touch screen. I showered and wrapped myself in a fluffy bathrobe and stepped out. I felt Mack’s eyes on me but I ignored him and went inside his dressing room where half of the room was now filled with my clothes. But they weren’t mine, not really, they were all new with tags still on them. “Why did you buy new clothes?!” I asked, loudly so he could hear. “You could’ve just have your goons bring them from my house.” I undid my belt and was about to remove my robe when Mack sauntered inside, making me shriek and clutch the robe. “What is the matter with you? Haven’t you heard of knocking?” “My woman, my room, my rules,” he said and I wished I could smack him. He’d never get tired of telling me I belonged to him. I knew it. “Get out of here. I need to put some clothes on. Don’t want my new Master to be late for work,” I muttered, sarcastically before grabbing the first piece of clothing I could get my hands on; which turned out to be a baby pink halter-neck dress. “Why does everything look so expensive here?” I asked, eyeing the rows and rows of clothes that now belonged to me. “Don’t worry about that. Just put on the dress and let’s go and have breakfast,” he replied. “You need to leave for me to do that.” “I don’t have to go anywhere, Nia. And I won’t in the future. You’ll only get this week for privacy, so make full use of it. Starting next week, you’re hiding nothing from me, especially this body of yours,” he stated before turning around and walking out of the room. I gulped and tried to get rid of the fear gnawing my insides. One week. He was only giving me a week to get used to his deranged presence? That wasn’t fair. None of this was fair. I still didn’t understand why he wanted me as his. Why did he hate me so much? After putting on the dress, I slipped my feet in a pair of flat sandals before stepping out of the dressing room. Mack smiled and I froze in place as his eyes swept over me. “Perfect,” he praised before taking a hold of my hand and leading me out of his room. The path from his room to the dining hall was like a maze and I was sure I’d get lost if I tried going on my own. The dining hall was empty by the time we arrived. “Where’s everybody else?” The Diamandis cousin had breakfast together but no one was here. “I told them to give us privacy for today. They’ll be here tomorrow.” Mack pulled out a chair and I sat down before he took the seat beside me. “I want you to eat properly. Don’t even think about skipping meals anymore.” “I never did.” “And you never will,” he said before putting a sandwich on my plate followed by some fruit and olives. I quickly ate everything and washed it down with a glass of juice, feeling energized after such a heavy breakfast. I didn’t understand why he was taking care of me when he would eventually hurt me. He wasn’t known for being particularly kind to anyone. He’s probably trying to lure you into a false sense of security before he shows you who he truly is. My inner voice was probably right. He was just playing with my feelings until he could kill me. But I wasn’t going to fall for it. I’d keep my guard up until I could get out of here. And since he’d be leaving for work, it would be the perfect opportunity to escape. As soon as he finished his breakfast, Mack stood up and dropped a kiss on my head. “I’m going to work now and I’ll be back in the evening. Don’t bother trying to escape; there are guards and cameras everywhere. If you try they’ll catch you and throw you in one of the cells until I return.” Damnit! I nodded and he smiled before dropping another kiss on my head. “Good girl. I’ll be back soon. Think of me while I’m gone.” Yes, I’ll only think about killing you. I watched him go and quickly left the dining hall. I didn’t want to go back to his room but I didn’t know where else to go. Perhaps I should go to the library and maybe try to read a book or something to pass the time. I knew the maids wouldn’t bother giving me any company because they had work to do. Mack’s Father prohibited me from getting a job, so I didn’t even have that to look forward to. My eyes lingered on the windows with longing but I knew I couldn’t go out. I believed him when he said the guards would catch me and throw me in a cell and I didn’t want that. I didn’t know how long I stood there in front of the window but I was yanked out of my thoughts when I felt a presence behind me before a voice floated in my ears. “Oh, so he finally brought you here,” a feminine voice said. I turned around and saw a woman who was about my age with thick red hair and blue eyes. Freckles peppered her nose, but they only made her look young and innocent. “Yes,” I said, knowing she was talking about Mack. “But it’s more like he’s not letting me leave.” “He never will.” She shook her head, her voice soft but layered with an emotion I couldn’t decipher. “Master doesn’t do that.” “Right.” “I told him not to do it. But he didn’t listen to me. He never does,” she said, rage flashing in her eyes. “Why would he listen to you?” She shrugged. “I listen to him all the time. He can listen to me for once.” “You’re the staff. You have no choice but to listen to him.” Her face hardened with anger. “I’m not the staff! I’m more than that and I’ll always will be.” I took a step back and was glad when she didn’t move. “Why do you think that? Who are you?” She c****d her head to the side as she regarded me with dark emotions. “I see he hasn’t told you. He always forgets to tell the world about me. “I’m Vivette. And I’m Master Mack’s property.”
