Vivette. I never heard the name before. Since I was close to Aston, I only knew who he was responsible for. I had no idea about Mack or any of the other Diamandis. So I had no idea who this woman was or which family she belonged to. And as much as she claimed to belong to Mack I couldn’t take her word for it.
“What are you thinking about?” She asked, her eyes shamelessly running over me. “You didn’t expect me, did you?” She smirked and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. I really had no idea who she thought she was but I wasn’t interested in wasting my time competing for Mack’s attention with her.
“No.” I shrugged. “I want you to understand that I’m not interested in Mack.”
“Master Mack. He is our Master,” she snarled.
“He’s your Master. Not mine,” I said, calmly. She was the first woman I’d seen who was perfectly content being somebody’s slave. Mack must be taking really good care of her if she was that obsessed with him.
“You belong to him. I was there when he signed the document that made you his. So address him by his title and don’t even think about disrespecting him,” she hissed, taking a step forward.
“Why are you so worried about that? And how could you let him do what he did?” I asked. “You didn’t want me here, so why didn't you stop him from signing that document?”
“I can only express my desires. It’s up to him whether he fulfills them or not. I’m not happy that he chose you, but I have no right to complain and I won’t. But you better ensure he’s happy with you. I—I don’t like it when he’s upset,” she said and turned to go but I stopped her.
“Then why don’t you worry about his happiness? I just want to get out of here.”
She sighed and pain flickered in her eyes. “His happiness is all I care about. Unfortunately that’s not me.”
I watched her walk away and disappear and couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her. I didn’t know her but her loyalty for Mack was obvious. I didn’t know the extent of her feelings for him but I wouldn’t be surprised if she loved him. And that made me wonder why Mack wanted me when he clearly had someone who genuinely loved him.
Deciding to talk to him when he returned, I cast a final glance at the view outside before going back to Mack’s room. It was about halfway that I realized that I didn’t know where his room was. When he was taking me there, I didn’t think to pay attention because I was busy being angry with him.
“Great,” I huffed. “I have no idea where to go or who to ask for directions.” Grant’s face materialized in my mind but I swatted it away because I didn’t want to go to him. He was crabby on the best of days and I loved to avoid him.
The ringing of my cellphone pulled me out of my thoughts and I pulled it out of the pocket of my dress to see an unknown number. Frowning, I thought about ignoring the call but decided to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Why did it take you so long to answer the phone?” Mack asked from the other end.
I rolled my eyes and leaned against the banister. “Where’s your room? I can’t seem to find it and I have nowhere else to go and sit. Do you have a library or a game room or something I can spend time in?”
“Yes, we have both in the house. But I’ll take you there myself,” he said and I could hear rustling in the background.
“You’ll be back in the evening. What am I supposed to do till then? I don’t even know where your room is. Besides, we need to talk,” I told him.
“Talk about what?” He asked. “And don’t worry, I’m coming back right now.”
“What? Why?” I wasn’t sure if I was relieved or frustrated. If he came back, he’d be able to show me where his room was and I wouldn’t die of boredom. But then again, I’d have to deal with him for the remainder of the day.
That’s your life now. Get used to it.
No, I couldn’t get used to it. I needed to keep fighting because I needed my freedom. I wanted to get out of here and I would. I just had to stay strong and face this man.
“I decided to cancel the rest of my meetings and help you settle in. I realized I didn’t do that,” he replied.
“Tell me something, Mack,” I began. “What the hell do you plan to do with me? You’ve taken me as your slave but I’m not doing anything. Do you expect me to wither away?”
“I have no plans to let you wither away, Nia,” he replied. “But I can’t and won’t divulge my plans either. You’ll know when the time comes.”
“And what the hell am I supposed to do till then?”
“What do you want to do?” He enquired, catching me by surprise.
“I—uh—I want to work. I want to get a job,” I answered after getting over the initial shock.
“Not happening. Pick something else,” he replied.
“Why not?!”
“As your Master it’s my job to provide for you and I intend to fulfill my responsibilities to the fullest. You will not be getting a job. If there’s something else you wish to do with your time, feel free to tell me,” he stated and I rolled my eyes so hard I nearly gave myself a headache.
“I’ll think about.” I sighed.
“Good. I’ll see you in fifteen minutes,” he said and hung up.
I listened to the dial tone for a couple of seconds before dropping my phone in my pocket and going back downstairs. Vivette was nowhere to be seen and I wondered what she was up to. I saw her wearing the maid uniform, so was she a maid just like Harmony was when she first came to work for Aston? I missed them both so much but they were no longer allowed to live here. I really needed to find something to do to pass the time otherwise I’d go insane before the week ended.
“I’ll just roam around until he gets back,” I mumbled to myself and proceeded to take a tour of the house even though I was already familiar with the place. But despite knowing it, I was still clueless about it. I didn’t know where everybody’s rooms were among other places. But I knew where Aston’s room was and I wondered what would happen to it now that he wasn’t here.
“What are you doing here?” I came to a stop in front of Noah who stood blocking my way.
“I—I don’t know what to do so I thought to take a tour of the house. I—I’ll be living here now, so I thought to get to know the place a little,” I answered. I wasn’t exactly on friendly terms with any of the Diamandis cousins. I was only friends with Aston because we went to school together. Tanner Diamandis made sure to enroll each of his grandsons to a different school.
“Just because Mack has control of you now doesn’t mean you can go around wherever you want,” he said with a roll of his eyes.
“My apologies. I don’t know where his room is so I thought I’ll walk around until he comes back. He called to tell me he’s on his way home,” I told him.
“Go downstairs and wait for him there like you’re supposed to.” He turned to go but stopped. “Did he give you the rulebook?”
“What rulebook?” I asked in confusion.
“The rulebook which tells you everything you’re supposed to do for your Master,” he clarified. “He gave it to Vivette. He needs to give one to you as well.”
“May I ask a question?”
His quirked an eyebrow at me. “Make it quick.”
“Is Mack allowed to have two… slaves?”
“Technically we’re only responsible for one family and Mack has the Corbins. You’re just someone he’s interested in owning so he can have you if he wants. And his father willingly handed you over to him, so there aren’t any rules being broken,” he answered.
“So there’s no way I can get out of this?” I asked.
“I’m surprised you thought you could.” Noah chuckled, making me want to bang my head against the wall.
“Who’s trying to get out of what?” Mack appeared behind Noah before he took his place beside me.
“Keep an eye on this one, cousin. She’s eager to slip away from your grasp,” Noah said.
“She can be as eager as she wants. We all know she’s going nowhere,” Mack replied, forcing me to accept the fact that I was stuck here whether I liked it or not.
“Make sure she understands that,” he said before turning around and walking away from us.
“I turn my back on you for five minutes and you’re giving trouble to the residents of this house,” he commented and I rolled my eyes at him.
“I’m not giving anybody any trouble. But there’s someone who might just cause me trouble,” I said, hating that I had no choice but to talk to him because he was the only one who bothered talking to me.
“Who?”
“Vivette,” I said.
“Ah, you finally met her,” he said, taking a hold of my hand and leading me to some place I didn’t know about.
“It’s more like she found me.” I stopped and tried to take my hand back but he refused to let me go. “If you already have a slave why the hell would you bother taking me? Are you that bored that one woman doesn’t do it for you? Mark my words, Mack, I’m not here for your entertainment and I’ll never accept that fact that I’m yours.”
“So you being mine is a fact. It’s good to know that we’re on the same page on that.” He smirked and I swore at my choice of words. “And as for being my entertainment, you’ll be anything and everything I want you to be. You don’t get to decide anything for yourself anymore.”
“Really? Then why did you ask me to decide what I want to do with my time?” I wanted to create some distance between us but he wasn’t letting me go.
“I want to know your interests.”
“I’m only interested in staying away from you. Let me go,” I said.
“Not happening. And it seems we have a conflict of interests and I need to change that,” he said.
“There’s nothing you can say or do to change my mind. Go and have fun with Vivette. She seems to be obsessed with you,” I hissed.
“Are you jealous?” He asked with an arched eyebrow.
“Are you out of your mind? Why would I be jealous? I just think you’re wasting your time with me when your actual slave clearly loves you,” I told him.
“She’s my slave, not my lover.”
“I have no intention of being your lover,” I shot back.
“I never said you’ll be my lover,” he replied. “Being presumptuous, are we?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” I snapped, feeling fire grazing my cheeks. “I just don’t understand what you want from me considering you have everything. You should just marry Vivette like Aston married Harmony.”
“I’m not interested in marrying Vivette. I never have been. You have nothing to worry about from her. Just focus on me and what I want from you,” he said.
Laughter bubbled out of me and I didn’t even try to contain it. “That will never happen. I plan on getting out of here and I’ll do just that.”
“I’d like to see you try,” he said, his amber eyes hardening to resemble a couple of gemstones.
“Get a bucket of popcorn while you’re at it, because I plan to make a very interesting exit,” I told him.
“You’ll find obstacles at every step because there’s no way I’m letting you go.”
“Whatever you do, I’ll overcome it. You can’t stop me, Mack.”
He stepped forward and I sucked in a breath when his chest brushed against mine. “It doesn’t matter, Nia. No matter how far you’ll go you’ll always end up in my arms.”
His words shook my synapses but I tried to maintain my composure. What was the matter with him? Why was he doing this?
“What do you want from me, Mack? Tell me why you took me,” I said.
“I told you before. I want everything from you. And I’ll take much more than you have the ability to give me. Everything you are; everything you will be now belongs to me. So be a good girl and behave yourself. I’m not exactly a patient man,” he said and resumed walking.
I was so busy contemplating the magnitude of his words that I was surprised when we ended in his room.
“Tell me what else you’re interested in doing with your time. And don’t tell me you want to get away from me,” he ordered, giving me a soft shove so I was sitting on his bed.
“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “Tell me about Vivette.”
“There’s nothing to know about her. I own her family and that’s it.”
“She hates me.”
“She hates everyone who catches my attention,” he replied, removing his jacket and loosening his tie. I swallowed hard as he rolled up his sleeves, exposing his corded arms.
“Then shouldn’t you be worried about her? What if she hurts me or something?”
He shifted forward and bent down until his eyes locked on mine. “If she hurts you, trust me, she’ll pay for it with her life.” I held my breath as he stroked the apple of my cheek. “Make no mistake, darling, I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
Oh, good God. What have I gotten myself into?
