Hope’s P.O.V
Vince had stayed behind to look after the pack, while Rick, myself and a few others went to help Alpha Cole and his pack, but when we got to the border of Alpha Cole’s territory we were met by a guard, who led us straight to the pack house. The guard kept glancing over at me, like he knew me and he was right, he did know me and I knew this because I recognised him straight away. He was so engrossed with trying to figure out how he knew me and where from that he almost tripped over his own feet when he looked back at me just before we got to the pack house. As soon as we walked in he led us straight to Alpha Cole’s office, nervously knocking on the door. We waited for a few minutes, but there was no reply and I couldn't hear anything moving from inside the office. Was this a set up? Did they know that I was going to come and this was all a trap?
“I’m sorry, I should have taken you out back and not brought you here. Everyone is waiting for you out there and I hope that you are hungry because there is a feast waiting for you all.” The guard said, making me more suspicious. He said my name even though he didn’t use it in the right context, but he didn’t realise what he had done. The guard Brian led us all out back and even though I didn't need to be shown where it was I still followed, not wanting to go first.
“Don't forget to read the guards, one of them is letting them inside and if at any time this gets too much for you then let me know and we will leave. If a single person here even lays a finger on you or says a wrong word to you I want you to tell me straight away.” Rick said, mind-linking me and making me smile at how protective he was.
“Don't worry, love. I will and we will get to the bottom of this one way or another.” I replied, mind-linking him back. Rick held my hand and intertwined our fingers as we stepped out the back door and led out into the back yard, where everyone was there, standing around. Alpha Cole stepped forward when he saw Rick, but as soon as he saw me he stopped dead in his tracks. He was as white as a sheet when he saw me and if I didn't know any better I would say that he was scared, but he couldn't be scared of me, not after all that he and the others did, could he?
“Hope, is that really you?” Alpha Cola asked and his voice was barely above a whisper, but everyone heard him and turned to look at me. Lovey stood there with her mouth open as soon as her eyes landed on me, while my dad and my mom looked very strange, like they had both seen a ghost.
“She’s so beautiful….” Lovey whispered, staring at me, but I still heard her.
“Hope, I think that they can sense that you have shifted, but don't say anything. Alpha Cole’s cat is trying to connect with me, he's trying to talk to me, shall I listen to what he has to say or just block him out?” Rachel asked, mind-linking me. Why would his cat be trying to talk to mine?
“Yes, let him talk. I want to know what he’s got to say for himself.” I replied, still looking at every member of my old pack, my abusers. I waited a few moments, feeling the connection being made and then waited a few more seconds, giving them enough time to talk before the connection was broken.
“Well, what did he have to say?” I asked Rachel, mind-linking her.
“His cat said that Cole and the rest of the pack are truly sorry for what they did to you. They are each going to ask you for forgiveness, but not right now, they are going to wait a day before they approach you. I think you should still watch your back though where Alpha Cole is concerned, he still owes you a hit to the head as payback for the one you gave him.” Rachel replied and I held back a chuckle. He wants to get revenge for me hitting him over the head while he was trying to rape me, oh now that is really f*****g hilarious. I looked at everyone here and held onto Rick’s hand for support, as he squeezed it and pulled me closer to him. He was still in protective mode because none of us knew what was going to happen while I was here and I was so grateful to him for that.
“Cole, this is my mate, Alpha Rick. Rick, this is Cole. you two play nice, after all I’m sure you regret doing the things you did in the past.” I said, introducing Cole and Rick to each other and warning Cole before he tried anything. I knew I should have used Cole’s title, after all he was an Alpha and Alpha’s are meant to be respected, but I had no respect for him whatsoever. Both Cole and Rick nodded to each other and the atmosphere felt very tense, but I couldn't blame them. Rick was angry and Cole was in shock that I was alive and standing in front of him. Suddenly someone tapped my shoulder from behind, making me turn around and see that Lovey was standing there.
“Can….can we talk, somewhere private please?” Lovey asked, stuttering slightly at the beginning. She was nervous to be talking to me, so why did she even bother? I sighed and looked at Rick, who nodded and gave me a kiss before I walked a few steps away from everyone. I wasn't trying to be rude, well, maybe I was a little, but I really wanted to get back to Rick, so we could discuss the rogue problem with Cole.
“What do you want to talk about because I need to get back?” I asked and Lovey sighed. What could she possibly want to talk to me about? She had already made her feelings towards me quite clear when she told me we weren’t friends and never were, so what else could there be to talk about?
“I’ll make this fast because I don't want to waste time. I’m sorry, I’m so very sorry for what I did to you. I….” Lovey replied and this really pissed me off, I wanted her to say it, say exactly what she did to me. I wanted to hear the words leave her mouth and know that she truly meant them.
“What are you sorry for? What part do you feel sorry about because you have done a lot to me?” I asked, interrupting her. Lovey stood there with her mouth opening and closing, looking like a fish gasping at the surface of the water.
“I’m sorry for everything I did to you, it wasn't your fault that you couldn't shift. I turned my back on you, I betrayed you and tormented you throughout the years. The way we beat on you and the things we did to you was…..I….I’m sorry.” Lovey replied, but I just glared at her.
“How do I know that I can trust what you are saying? Are you only saying this because I now have my tiger or are you saying this to me because you truly mean it?” I asked, opening my mind up so that I could hear her thoughts, like how I had done with Rick.
“I really pray that she believes me, we really need her help. Yeah she has her cat now and that's a huge part, having her cat really gave her a rocking body, but we need her help and I do really regret what I did to her, but at the time I just wanted to join in with everyone else. I didn't want to be outcast for being friends with a human. I just want to find out who is letting those nasty ass rogues into our territory and then we can put a stop to all of this.” Lovey said in her mind, thinking about what I had asked her. She was right, if she had been any different than what she was with me then not only would she have been punished for it, then so would I as well, but then again I was punished, I was punished by her and all the others.
“I do truly mean it, but I also want to stop these rogues from hurting and killing anymore of us.” Lovey replied, basically saying exactly what she thought.
“Listen Lovey, you're not forgiven, not yet and if I ever do things will never go back to the way they were before. We can start from here and you can prove to me that you actually mean what you say, but you have a lot to make up for and it won't be easy. Until then we need to figure out who or what is letting the rogues inside.” I said and Lovey nodded, agreeing with me.
“Let's get back over there.” Lovey said and I nodded, not wanting to be near her for a second longer. I still didn't trust her yet, but she had made the first step and apologised, so I couldn't ignore that and I wouldn't. Now all I had to do was deal with everyone else if and when they approached me, goddess this was going to be a really long few days.
