Chapter 22

Tessa’s POV

“Okay, now for my experience with Dark Hollow. I am from a small pack south of here. About four years ago we were attacked. There were about ten survivors. We moved to the human city and took care of each other. I had a job at the local gym, teaching kickboxing classes. I was kidnapped on my way home one night. They weren’t rogues, but they were wolves. Their pack scent was not one I had smelled before, so either they are not from around here or they don’t go into the city. I was taken to the little cabin in the woods where there were about seven other women. I was told to go shower, and the guard watched me, then he gave me this loose white dress to put on. All the girls in the cabin wore them. They gave us the ‘cocktail’, which I learned was birth control, a sedative and wolfsbane. They wanted to separate us from our wolves, make us drowsy and make sure we didn’t get pregnant. The rule was if you were a virgin, the guards could only have you perform oral on them. If you were not a virgin, they could have any type of s*x with you, but they can’t leave any marks on you. They were able to do this until delivery day” I say

“The days I was there; the ladies there were a combination of pack members and rogues. We were being sold to other packs. There were three different vans to take us where we were supposed to go. Dr Robert concluded that due to my alpha blood, the cocktail did not work as effectively on me as it did the others. I was able to knock out one of the warriors, taking us to the van. I killed him, I think. Another girl hit the other warrior with a branch, and we were able to escape and come here”

“Anna, one of the girls I escaped with, is also pregnant. She was raped by the Alpha and his son. She was also a virgin when they took her. She said they did it a few times then put her with the others to be sold. When we got here, she called her parents. We are thinking they approached the alpha about what she said because that same day she felt the bond break with her mom and dad. We think he killed them”

“Uncle Derrick, we have to stop them” she says

“Here’s the bag Anna” Brian says as he enters the room

“Anna, we have gathered evidence against them and sent it to the council but nothing is happening. I have been doing this since the attack six years ago, but nothing. I have a premise but no evidence to support it. What I am about to say, does not leave this room; I think the council is on the take and are aware of the things going on at Dark Hollow”

“To piggyback on that, I believe they are manipulating the King. Remember he took the throne when he was just sixteen and his parents were killed. The council has been advising him now for four years. No one can get an audience with him, he doesn’t leave the palace, everything regarding him goes through the council. This was not how his father governed. I think they are controlling him and thus controlling the kingdom” Xavier says

“Uncle, when I was escaping, these files and USBs were on the alpha’s desk. We took them before going through the secret tunnel. You need to see this”, Anna says passing it to Derrick

“Holy s**t Anna

Alpha Derrick’s POV

Anna passed me the files she took from Dark Hollow when she ran. I started flipping through the files

“HOLY s**t ANNA” I exclaim

One file is a dossier on each woman sold in the last six months. This includes their pack, status, name, date of birth and destination. There’s a list of buyers and suppliers. There’s also a ledger of transactions. I can only guess what’s on the USB’s.

“I need all current and future ranked members in my office tomorrow at 9am. We have a lot of information to discuss. Xander, is it possible you can stay for this meeting? You are going to want to be involved in this” I tell the table

“I can stay, especially if it’s as important as it seems. Just let me make a few phone calls” Xander responds to my request

“Is everything okay Derrick” Opal asks me concerned

“Yes dear, we just need to go through this information Annalisa provided us with” I respond

I am looking at the other faces around the table and notice Annalisa pulling other things out of her backpack.

“There’s something else I need to address with you, Anna” Thane starts

She stops going through the bag and gives him her attention.

“While you were in a coma, we had a visit from a neighboring pack. They came for a separate issue, but the future alpha caught your scent on Tessa. We brought him to your room to confirm it was you he was smelling. He identified you as his mate” Thane said

“I have a mate” she said with eyes wide and showing excitement

“Yes, his name is Vick of the Stoneheart pack”

“Oh, my goddess I have a mate. I didn’t think I would get one because of what happened to me, but she gave me one. Is he nice? Was the plan to call him when I woke up?” she questions

“Anna, you see, what happened…was…. he saw you at the hospital”

“He doesn’t want me”

“He doesn’t deserve you” Thane sates

“What happened Thane, was it because of the rape?” she questions

“No Anna. I would never give him those kinds of details without your permission”

“Anna, I recorded the transaction. If you want to see it?” Tessa says

“Yes please”

Tessa pulls out her phone, and she has a video starting from us getting to Anna’s room at the hospital. Anna watches the whole thing; tears start to drip from her face.

“He doesn’t want me because of the baby” she cries

“Anna, you did nothing wrong. He didn’t give a chance to explain anything. And he knew your situation was special” Thane says

“A baby is a big thing, Thane. A lot of men would not accept a woman carrying another man’s child” I defend

“True. But a real man listens to a situation and then makes a decision not to throw a tantrum like a child. It is your decision how you deal with him, Anna. I don’t feel he handled the situation appropriately and that’s all I’m saying” Thane states

Anna’s POV

I understand where Thane is coming from. The video did not show Vick in the best light. Do I want to give him the details of my situation? He may not have acted any better or differently with that information. But he is my mate. Should I not try to work things out? Give him the chance to be a better person. If I don’t have the baby, will he then want me?

“This leads me to a thought I had about the baby” I say

“I am almost twelve weeks, so I only have twelve more weeks before I deliver” I state

“Maybe less Anna. Your baby is a pure-blooded Alpha, since both your parents were Alpha’s. Even if the father is not of true Alpha descent. That is an assumption because I don’t know about his wolf since he received the title by nefarious means. But a lot of times Alpha wolves deliver early” Dr Robert says

“I have been thinking about this since I woke up. I am not in any position to raise a baby. At the same time, I want to know the baby is cared for and with people who will love him and raise him right. I refuse to believe he is anything like his father. I want to put him up for adoption, but I would still like some type of connection to him. So, I would like a specific couple to adopt him”

I pause. I hope they understand and agree to my request.

“I would like Tara and Dr Robert to adopt my baby” I say

The table is quiet. Everyone is looking between myself and the couple.

“I understand if you need some time to think about it, even if you say no, but when I think of this baby I don’t see myself as it’s mother, but maybe a cool aunt. Please at least give it some thought” I say

“You want us to adopt your baby?” Tara says

“Yes”

“We have never had children” she says

“And that is why I want you to have this one. I do feel children are a gift from the goddess and at some point I want more, but I know right now I can’t give this baby what it needs. But I know you can, and you have not been blessed with that possibility, so I figured I could bless multiple people at one time. You get to have a baby, which you told me you always wanted. The baby gets wonderful and capable parents, not a broken single mother. He still has his family close by to care for him. And I get to know him and watch him grow. I think it’s a win-win all around”

Tara and Robert look like they are mindlinking each other. Discussing what to tell me privately. Tara starts to cry. She stands up and comes to me. I stand up to meet her.

“We would be honored to accept this blessing, Anna” she says hugging me

We stand there and hug for a while. The room busted out in applause and howls of congratulations. I know everyone was shocked by my request at first, but now see, it’s a great idea. Tara and Robert are wonderful, smart, kind people; this baby will have an amazing life. We separated after a few minutes.

“I have one more request” I say looking at my uncle

“I know I can complete the equivalency test before I deliver. I want to do light training now, which Dr Robert said would be good for the pregnancy. Then I want to do warrior training, to hopefully take elite training at Full Moon”

“Okay, I don’t see anything wrong with that, but elite training is not a requirement” he says

“I know, but I think it’s needed for what I have to do” I say looking down at the dessert the omega had just placed in front of me.

Uncle Derrick and my grandparents give me a questioning look. I wait for the serving staff to leave before I respond to their unasked question.

“I plan to get my revenge against the men who did this to me” I say angrily
