She took a bus and returned to the hospital. By the time she reached the ward, Marina was already awake and she asked the moment she saw her “Where have you been? I was so worried when I heard from Ruby that you had gone somewhere without informing her.”
Mollie exhaled deeply before sitting down on the edge of the sickbed and said “I have just gone out for some work. Don’t worry.” She held her hand and asked “How are you feeling now? Are you still feeling pain?”
“Nah… I am good now.”
Marina was in pain but she hid it from her daughter as she didn’t want Mollie to worry about her. Mollie was not stupid and she could sense her pain by seeing her pale face, but she didn’t say anything further. She only patted the back of her hand and said “Try to sleep once more.”
Mariya nodded and closed her eyes. Mollie’s expression turned perplexed as she couldn’t find the way out of this situation. Suddenly a name popped up in her mind, ‘Elijah Smith’. Yes, he was the only one left to whom she could ask for help. She was afraid of him but this was not the time to sit back quietly. To save her mother even if she needed to face her fear then she would do that. She sighed deeply and looked down at her mother’s pale face.
The next morning after the physiotherapy session, Phillip informed Bruno “Boss, you have to resume your work. There are some problems in the company that needed to be taken care of. Mr. Smith also has asked you to join the company soon.”
Bruno knew that he needed to continue his life as Elijah and for that, he had to do all the work that Elijah used to do. For the rest of the world, he was now Elijah Smith, the president of ‘Smith Groups’.
‘Well… Let’s begin the journey.’ He muttered in his mind. Nodding, he looked up at Phillip and said “OK… let’s go to the office then.”
Phillip was stunned as he didn’t expect that his boss would agree with him so easily. His boss had changed indeed a lot after the third suicide attempt. He was shocked but he smiled at him and pushed the wheelchair to the bedroom. After freshened up and changing the clothes, they headed to the office.
When they reached the company, Bruno stared at the skyscraper in front of him and his head went backward automatically mouth agape. This was the head office of ‘Smith Groups’. The memories of Elijah started overflowing in his mind. He could picture the way Elijah talked, walked, and looked at the people in the office. Phillip was pushing him inside the office while Bruno was staring at the building in a daze. Everyone started greeting him warmly “Hello, President Smith.”
“Hello, President Smith.”…
Their greetings continued all the way till he entered Elijah’s chamber. Bruno never received such honor in his previous life and a very complicated feeling arose in his mind. This honor and respect were for Elijah Smith, not for him. At that moment he felt anguished for Elijah. That man was young and he had power, money, name, fame, and a loving family, but still he gave up on his life. And the reason behind that was his fiancee. His hatred towards that woman intensified and clenching his fists tight, he gnashed his teeth. By then Phillip pushed him towards his desk and said “I will bring the files that you needed to check.”
Bruno came out of his trance and while nodding, he hummed in response. With the help of his intelligence and Elijah’s knowledge, Bruno understood all the work in no time. And Phillip was also there to help him.
After a long tiring day, finally, he came back to the villa in the evening. Suddenly he started missing Mollie and he called Phillip “Um… I didn’t see that girl in the morning. Didn’t she come today?”
Phillip’s brows knitted slightly thinking that why his boss was asking about that little maid. He then said casually “Her mother is not well and she is hospitalized. I gave her a few days' leaves.”
Bruno raised his head and looked up at him, eyebrows pulled together. Then he parted his thin lips and commanded “Tomorrow you go to the hospital and check if she needs anything.”
He rolled the wheels and entered the bedroom leaving Phillip alone in the big living room in a daze. For a long time, Phillip couldn’t close his mouth and stared at the closed door of the bedroom. This was the first time he was seeing his boss be concerned about a woman other than Jessica. He was even more puzzled to think that, that girl was just a modest maid. How come the president of ‘Smith Groups’ could develop an interest in a maid? He was accompanying his boss for more than five years and he thought that he knew him very well, but after hearing him he felt that he didn’t know him at all. Sighing, he shook his head and made a call to order food.
The next afternoon, Brandon Carter came to the hospital to meet Marina. He actually wanted to talk to Mollie. How could he give up so easily? He was desperate for that contract and to get that if he needed to force Mollie then also he won’t hesitate. The strong smell of disinfectant hit his nose the moment he entered the ward and his mouth twisted. He never stepped in a general ward before and he was feeling very disgusted to see the patients whimpering, lying on the sickbeds. Covering his nose with the handkerchief, he walked to Marina’s bed cautiously.
Mollie was enraged to see him coming towards them. All his words that he said to her started ringing in her ears. Brandon was taken aback and stopped in his track to see her gaze full of hatred. This young girl was very stubborn and was always ready to challenge him. He frowned and looked coldly at her before approaching there.
Marina was shocked to see him and her eyes went wide. She was lying on the sickbed but sat up instantly the moment her eyes captured his intimidating figure. She glanced at Mollie and realized how angry she was by seeing her expression. She didn’t want Mollie to create any ruckus inside the ward so she opened her mouth to say something to Brandon but before that, Mollie stood up from the stool and glaring at him, she asked “What are you doing here?”
“Behave yourself. Is this the way you talk to your elders?” He was not happy at all with her haughtiness. His gaze then shifted to the weak woman sitting on the sickbed and asked “How are you feeling now?”
“I am good. Thank you for coming here, but you really have no need to come here.”
“Is that so?” He sneered “You have sent your daughter to ask for money and now that I come to see you then you are saying that there was no need to come. Stop your foul play and tell me if you need anything. If you want then I can move you to the VIP ward.”
“No need.” Before he could finish his words properly, Mollie interrupted him. “We don’t need your help, Mr. Carter. You can leave now.”
She turned and looked away from him as she felt sick to see his face. Marina was dumbfounded to know that Mollie went to Brandon to ask for help. She was too shocked to react and only started at her daughter, mouth wide opened.
On the other end, Brandon’s eyes were emitting a murderous aura. He had nothing to do with Marina’s illness. He only came there to convince Mollie and to take the advantage of her current situation but he didn’t think that it would be so difficult to talk to her. But he was also determined and won’t back off until he convinced her. He walked closer to her and slightly leaning forward to her he said in a low voice so that only the two of them could hear “Do you believe that if I want then I can throw your mother out of this hospital within a minute? Come out. I need to talk to you.”
He strode out of the ward after saying those words. Mollie turned her head and looked at his leaving figure in contempt. Her chest was undulating rapidly as her breathing quickened due to anger. Her fists were tightly clenched on both sides. She wanted to see how far this man could go to get that contract, so she lifted her chin and followed him. Marina only looked at them, totally bewildered.
Brandon didn’t stop his steps until he came out to the parking lot. Once he came there, he turned around to look at Mollie who was trailing behind him. She stood straight and asked, “Say, what you want to say.”
Brandon put his hands inside the pockets and said lazily “My offer is still open. Don’t be in hurry to answer me. I am giving you seven days time to think.”
“Humph.” Mollie sneered “And what if my answer is still ‘no’ after seven days also?”
