Chapter 21

Grant was a snake. There was no doubt about it, slithery and dangerous. He would be absolutely desperate now that we confronted his father, him, and the entire pack when he was supposed to be Alpha. He was now on the run and sought after. We searched the tunnels with no signs of him being through there. There were no foot prints or anything left behind. There was no scent trail or anything. He must of been masking his scent. We walked around the grounds searching for any traces of him. After a couple hours we called off the search. We said our farewells and left behind Kingston as another form of communication. He wouldn't mind much because of Gracie. Although my father and mother were there, they were retired and needed to enjoy some them time. As we traveled back to our pack we were extra observant. We couldn't be too careful. Once back Ryker ordered that I have guards follow me around at all time. A protection detail, as he called it. Extra security measures were placed at our border and we had an open line of communication with Blood Moon and neighboring packs. Everyone was on high alert. I hated feeling trapped and not being able to do as I pleased. I had two bodyguards that followed me everywhere, literally everywhere. If I had to use the restroom they waited outside. Talking about no privacy. I thought it was a little over the top, but not Ryker. We argued about it and he put his foot down on the subject. I figured it was excessive because there are always so many people in the packhouse. Everyone knows what he looks like, I am safest here. I can understand if I want to go for a run outside but here, no. After a few weeks passed there was still no word on where he was. It was quiet and business was back on track. I had started scheduling our meetings and going back to a normal every day life. I had a day out with Rykers sister on shopping. I had to get more wardrobe pieces. Of course I had my body guards with us. We shopped for hours. I ended up getting so much stuff to fill up the closet. So many outfits for many different occasions. I had purchased a few gowns and sent them to be tailored to all of my curves. Ryker swung by and brought us coffee and waited around. He even helped and picked out a few outfits. We all went and picked out things for our bedroom and the packhouse. It was time I put my touch on it. I ended up ordering us a new bedroom suite, a few paintings some paint and scheduled construction on our room. We called a few people went to dinner and relaxed, had fun, and enjoyed the company of family and friends. I rode back to the packhouse with Ryker. My fingers tangled with his and I had never felt happier. We drove past the road for the packhouse and I looked at him confused. "Just wait my love a surprise for you." He brought my hand to his lips and placed a soft kiss against my knuckles. "A surprise? Really? Ryker I already had a huge shopping trip that will cost thousands after the renovation is completed." I objected. "Shhh. You're going to love it." We drove along the windy road up to the top of the mountain. He parked at an over look and got out of the SUV. He walked around the vehicle and opened my door, helping me get out. He laid out a blanket and two pillows and brought another one to wrap us up in and keep the chill off. I sat down on the blanket and leaned against him once he sat next to me. He held me in his arms and we overlooked the city. Where the city ended the stars shined brightly above. "How breathtaking." I looked on in wonder. I never knew this existed. I made a mental note to revisit often, this may be one of my new favorite spots. "You haven't seen the show yet, love." He motioned up to the sky and we laid back. I moved closer into him, my head resting where his shoulder met his arm. The stars twinkled above us and it was quiet, other than our heartbeats and breathing. The sky lit up above us, streaks flying across the sky. It was beautiful. I pulled the blanket tighter around us as a breeze sent chills through my body. Rykers arm wrapped tightly around me as we laid there peacefully watching the night sky. The moon rose high and the light was bouncing off our skin. As I listened to his heartbeat and breathing I fell asleep in his arms. I woke to him lifting me in his arms and carrying me back to the suv. He helped me in and buckled me into the seat. I smiled sleepily at him as he kissed my cheek. He got in on his side and we drove the winding mountain down back into the pack. I looked up at the clock and it was around three in the morning. "I ended up falling asleep too, but Asher messaged me panicked because we weren't back yet. He said he was going to send out a search party for us." He laughed. "Well I guess you can't be too safe with Grant still on the run. Although I doubt he will show his face here. It would be a suicide mission." I leaned back in the seat and closed my eyes, we had about an hour drive back to the pack. By the time we get there it'll be time to start gathering our things to move bedrooms for the renovation project. The contractors will be here tomorrow and will last until the end of the week. As we pulled into the driveway Asher and a head warrior were walking out the door talking. We parked the SUV and an Omega took it to be parked. We walked up the stairs and I yawned as we approached them. "He was spotted about three miles east of our border along the river where it turns into rapids." Asher was looking at us both. "That is bold of him. He knows he's wanted and being hunted. If he fights it will be a bring him in dead or alive situation. He does have alpha genes, no warrior should face him alone. He can still weaken them with his alpha aurora if he projects it." Ryker was talking to them both. "Maybe the boundary runners should be in groups of 4? and 5 mile radius between groups. If he tries to surprise attack that should be no issue to cover that amount of ground." I suggested. "That is an excellent idea love! Asher can you get the word out for us? Also anyone who comes through must be fully checked as human. They're the only ones working on the renovations." "You've got it sir, I will spread the word." Him and the other warrior were down the steps and I heard them shifting into the woods. As we walked to our room I looked at my mate as he changed his clothes. I watched his muscles ripple with his movements. "You should really promote a beta, I know Asher is your stand in and he is really great but he's almost to retirement age. You need to either promote him with the official title or you need to find someone. The pack will strengthen with the position filled." "I know, I've been meaning to promote Asher, its just been busy. I was thinking of promoting him and showing Kingston the ropes for the next few years. Kingston is young, barely eighteen." He looked over at me as he placed a black t-shirt over his body. "I think it will be a good chain of command. They sure have proved theirselves." I smiled. "They really have. I'll discuss it with Asher once he comes back with a report." He kissed me and ran his hand along my cheeks. "You're brilliant." I returned the kiss and smiled up at him, leaning my head against his head "I know. Now go take care of business, I'll see you for brunch." He left and I turned around to our stuff and began packing and transferring our things and clothes. It was going to be a long day. Thankfully there was going to be a ton of coffee packed full of caffeine to get me through today.
