Chapter One
I walked through the tall and oversized double doors for the last time as a student. A small smile appeared on my face as the warmth of the sun washed over me. I looked around campus at the students leaving and some were gathering in their perspective groups. Passing by a few I noticed some were crying or laughing. Knowing that this was the end of our student life and beginning of our forever made some nervous.
I was excited about what the future held. I didn't have the greatest high school experience but it was okay. I had a few friends, and a great bestfriend. Well ever since she turned 18 a few months ago her wolf hormones have been all over the place. She told me to not tell anyone but she believes that our future Alpha was her mate. If not she would make him fall in love with her and have him reject whoever his true Moon Goddess' mate is.
I walked down the sidewalk when I heard her running behind me "Anna, wait up! You left me behind."
I stopped and turned and offered her a tight smile "Sorry, mom is waiting on me. She said she has a surprise for me. It's probably something for our graduation and Grants big birthday."
"Oh how fun, I wonder what she got you?" We started walking together towards the packhouse.
"Who knows, I just hope whatever it is, fits properly and doesn't make me look more dumpy than I already am." I snorted at my own comment.
"Anna, you're not dumpy! You're absolutely gorgeous. You know you just need to actually do something other than throw your hair up and wear jeans and t-shirt. Dress up more, play in the make up, and SMILE!" she nudged my side and lightly pushed me. We both laughed as we walked up the steps to our packhouse.
It was busy with all the upcoming festivities, we hurried by some Omegas who were arguing over the tablecloth pattern. I looked up the stairs, feeling like we were being watched to see the future Alpha, Grant watching us closely and talking to his best friend, Liam.
Gracie gripped my arm a bit "See he already feels the pull towards me. I know he's my mate. My wolf and I can feel it." We walked up the steps to where my bedroom was located and I split away from her, leaving her to talk with Grant and Liam. I gave a small smile to them both and excused myself from them.
Walking down the long hallway I came to my room, opening the door I stepped inside. Turning on the overhead light, I walked over to my bed and flopped down on it letting out a sigh. I have no clue what she sees in Grant other than power. Sure he was good looking, he was the future Alpha. He had jet black hair, hazel eyes that changed depending on his mood, and he had probably the best smile I had ever seen. He was tall and broad shouldered and strong. He was very nice to look at and was a distraction when we all had training sessions.
A knock on the door pulled me from my day dreaming and in walked my mother. She smiled at me and walked over to me and sat on the chair adjacent to my bed. "Have you walked into your closet yet sweetie?"
"No momma. Is that where my gift is?" I stood up and my mom followed suit. I could tell she was more excited than I was. She stepped in front of me and opened my closet door. I walked in and my mouth dropped for a moment.
There hanging in the middle of my large closet was the most beautiful deep burgundy dress I had ever saw. It had a sweetheart neckline, that was outlined in sequins and crystals. They followed down to the bust and thinned out as it went to the waist line. The dress had a high split to show off, what I thought, was my awkward long legs. The heels with it had crystals and sequins that matched my dress perfectly. My mom had a heavy necklace with matching earrings sitting on my vanity, that I rarely used, in a dark blue velvet box.
I placed my hand on them and looked over at her, "Mom these are absolutely beautiful, are you sure?"
She had tears forming in her eyes and gave me a loving smile "Absolutely dear, these have been passed down for generations from all of the women in our family. They're very old, but timeless. Be careful with them and take care of them."
I hugged her tightly "Thank you momma. Thank you."
She embraced me back and kissed the top of my head, "Okay I have much to do with getting these parties going with Carolynn." With that she turned and walked out the door. I sat on the chaise in my closet just admiring the dress and jewelry for a while. I looked over at my vanity and stood up walking over to it. I opened the drawers and started looking for colors to match the dress. I laid it all out, organized in the order it went in. I pulled out the brushes and sponges and sat them down in front of the mirror. I looked at my own reflection and sighed. I had rich auburn hair that had a natural wave to it that went more than halfway down my back, my skin was fair, I had blue eyes, and full lips. I had a few freckles, that I hated, that kissed my shoulders. I was average looking but tall. My father was 6'5 and mother was 6'1. I was 6'. I always thought myself of being that tall, awkward, and lanky looking kid in school.
I stood up and walked out of my closet and got ready for bed. I took my hair down and brushed it, washed my face and got into my pajamas. I turned off the lights and flopped onto my bed. I pulled my comforter around me and closed my eyes, soon drifting off into a restful slumber.
The morning came and I was woke up by knocking on the door. My body protested and I threw the pillow over my head. I knew I had slept through my alarms and already missed breakfast. I should have already showered at this point and probably dried my hair. The knocking came again and I got up and out of bed, "Come in."
Just as I had expected, my mother came waltzing in with what appeared to be a granola bar, banana, and a water. She also had another dress bag in her hand on one hanger and my graduation gown on the other. "Good morning sleepy head! It's your graduation day! C'mon get up and get ready! I have your grey and white dress steamed and ready for you, here's some breakfast! I have to run to your fathers office and I will be back to help with anything you need dear." She kissed the top of my head and was gone as fast as she came in.
I finished eating my breakfast and got into the shower to wash and get ready for the day. I prayed continuously to the Moon Goddess to not let me fall walking across the stage or just make a fool of myself in front of half the pack. After showering I brushed out my long hair and brushed my teeth and walked out and to my closet.
To my surprise my mother and Gabby were already in there. Gabby always had beautiful ways of doing her makeup and hair.
"Good morning, Gabby!" I told her cheerfully. "Are you here to help me look more feminine than tomboyish?"
Gabby let out a small snicker "Yes ma'am I am. Your mom recruited me to help you for your graduation and our future Alpha Grants birthday bash tomorrow. I hope you don't mind too much?"
"Not at all, I'm not any good at this and I don't really want to make myself look like a complete clown." All three of us laughed.
"Okay dear I'm going to leave you and Gabby here to get ready and I will be helping our Luna with last minute details." She smiled at me before turning to Gabby, "Thank you so very much for your help. My husband and I appreciate it very much."
My mom walked out the door and I looked over to Gabby who already had a blow drier in her hand "Let's get this going and get it done with." I sat down on the chair and Gabby went to work on my hair and make up. She wouldn't let me look at myself at all while she was working. She said that it was a surprise and wanted to see my full reaction.
