The luncheon wasn’t at all pleasurable to Danika, as she had predicted. And it took longer than she wanted it to last to the point that she had to pretend she was too tired to go on with the fake conversations going on around the table and the King offered to show her back to her chamber, which she was sure he wanted an escape too.  They walked side by side in the utter silence that the only thing that was evident to them being together was the soft sounds of their shoes along the long corridors of the palace, which she found alluring and beautiful to look at. He cleared his voice softly and she turned to look at him, “I guess you must've had something to tell me, Your Majesty.” Her lips itched to call him with his first name, to show him that she wasn’t going to regard him with the respect he had expected from everyone he associated himself with. But then she knew there was a limit to how much she could rebel against him, and if calling his name was among, then it had to be in the confines of their privacy.  “It was quite satisfying, how you handled the questions of the royal members. I must commend that you were a good Queen before anything else.” He said sardonically and she instantly wanted to punch him in the guts. She hated him, so much that if a sword could be given to her now, she’d have no difficulty diving it into his chest. “I'm flattered, Your Majesty.” She said with a tight-lipped smile and noticed the satisfaction he took from her anger, “But may I ask why I had to lie about being a vampire in front of everyone? When I'm not one and would never be.” He slightly opened his mouth, giving way to the pangs she so wished not to ever see in her life. She knew she had seen vampires from the day he woke up until today, but none of those pangs had matched with his. His pangs had this ability to shoot a chill directly down to her spine.  “You might not be a vampire now, but will certainly be in some time to come. Why wouldn’t you already accept that now?” She didn’t miss the way he wasn’t certain about his answer, or as though he had something he was hiding that she didn’t have to find out so soon.  She was silent as they rounded the corner that would lead to her bed-chamber. “I'll rather appreciate it if I've never turned to one, it sucks being a vampire. And if you could stop your entourage from here, it’d also be appreciated, Your Majesty.” She felt the way he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and she immediately went stiff under his touch, frozen even. She had never thought that he could so calmly and casually hold her in such a way as though he was used to that or physical touch was something they had long accomplished. Trying to tame down the anger that seared through her, Danika whispered to his hearing. “I'd much appreciate taking your hand off me, Your Majesty.” He tightened his grip on her arm and she wanted to recoil out of his hold. Spat out whatever came to her mind so that maybe she would feel less tormented by him. She knew he was only doing this to prove to her that she was indeed his wife before she was a Queen. And he had every right to touch her whenever he wanted and wherever the mood struck him.  “Wouldn't you be happy to have been soon this affection in the presence of your maids, Your Highness?” He leaned and whispered the words into her ear, and it was only self-control that stopped Danika from yelling her annoyance at him.  Instead, she slightly lifted her eyes and they got directly into his while she flashed him a heated look. She didn’t care how her body was trembling within their proximity or how she was afraid of what he would do to her if she did something wrong. She wanted to let him know her message sound and clear enough.  “No. And I'll rather your take your hand off me for it disgusts the life out of me, Your Majesty.” They stood in front of her door and she felt the way he slid his arm away from her body and she immediately leapt away from him. She didn’t care if her sudden movement was noticeable to the maids. As it was and the way she was feeling toward him, she didn’t care if the whole people of Dewhurst would know of her feeling toward their dear Vampire King. He turned to stand in front of her and her eyes cut to a slit when she saw the look in his eyes. It was a daring look and a look that showed how satisfied he was to see her there, standing and waiting for whatever decision he had to take. Whether it was for him to be in her bed-chamber or not. “Don't even think about it.” She whispered to his hearing and Ezra chuckled softly.  He knew the distance between them and the maids would make it so hard for them to hear what they were going to say and so he let loose of his guards as the Vampire King. “Why? Is it because you know that you’d hardly resist me when I decide to sleep on your bed today, Your Highness?” She chuckled lightly and brushed her fingers on his arm not to give the maids the impression that the conversation was a heated one, but in the actual truth, she was boiling within. She wanted to yell at him, tell him every hurtful thing she could ever think of that will make him so angry. “Resist you? Pardon my innocence, but if you mean that I can’t resist you in the s****l sense, I'm so sorry but I'd have to cut right through your ego as a man.” She lifted her face, having to tilt her head back a little for her to have a proper view of his face and their eyes to meet for the height difference between them before she spoke, not trying to hide her answer with a smile. “Your Majesty, you must’ve forgotten that I told you I don’t see you as a man, didn’t I? And even if I didn’t, there, I’ve said it.” She tried to take a step toward the door when he held her wrist and she turned to him with a look that would’ve burnt him if the fire had once dripped from her eyes. “Expect me tonight.” That’s all he said before he flung her hand away from his hold and turned on his heels. Danika didn't care to look at his retreating back when she walked into her bedroom, seething with rage. She wanted to scream at something, someone or just crush some valuables that would ease her anger.  “Your Highness?” Lisa began and she quickly turned to the door.  “I’ll take my dinner in my bedroom, Lisa. No one should disturb me for the rest of the day and do not allow anyone in, especially His Majesty.” She knew this would be a workload for Lisa and even though she knew if Ezra wanted to enter her room no one could ever stop him, she just wanted to anger him hearing that she had said no one should be allowed in, even if it were him.  “Your...” Lisa stuttered before she sighed, feeling realizing that her work as the court lady of the Queen would be her god sent punishment. Maybe she did something bad in her past life. “Yes, Your Highness.” Danika hissed under her breath and went directly to the bathroom, she took the longest shower she had ever done in her life and when she was out, even though she was aware of the hand dryers that were carefully stacked in the drawers of her dressing area, she didn’t take any of them out. She let the wind dried her hair as she got into a loose evening gown that gave her the comfort she needed.  She sat on her now laid out bed and her fingers softly fondled the silky covers while she smiled. She wanted to talk to someone so bad, it wasn't even up to a day when she had been brought to the palace but she was already bored as hell. She instantly knew that she had to tour around the palace to look for something that would relieve her off her boredom so long as she planned to stay long in the palace. She saw the phone Lisa had brought for her, saying it was from the King and hissed. But then she had never held a phone of her own, and Faline’s phone wasn’t this luxurious. She took it and began surfing through it that she happily forgot who had bought the phone for her or that she was supposed to keep on being angry with the King.  • And like she had ordered, no one dared disturb her. Lisa had to beg her before she nibbled on her dinner and the maid took it out when she was done. She was still on her phone, charging it for some time when it had run out of battery and still trying to figure out a lot of things in it. She wished she had Faline’s number, she would’ve called her. And maybe Papa too, to tell him that she was holding up well in the palace.  She heard someone running in the corridor leading to her bedroom and silently waited for what was to come. “Pardon me, Your Majesty, but Her Highness asked me not to allow anyone into her bed-chamber tonight. She made an emphasis on you.” She heard the desperate voice of Lisa as it was evident her entire body was shaking and Danika wondered if she was crying. She instantly felt bad for the tight situation she had put her in and wondered what she would do. Her heart lost a beat when she heard the thunder Ezra made, “How dare you go against the words of the King? Do you want to die this instant?” She heard the shivering of Lisa as everything was going on in front of her bedroom door and before the poor maid replied, Danika opened the door with a cynical smile on her lips. “You’re done here, Lisa. Have a good night’s rest.” She didn’t spare the maid a look when she said that and the maid scurried out of their view while she opened the door wider for him as she shifted to one side to give him a chance to enter. “I'm so pleased to see you tonight, Your Majesty.” She bowed and he wanted nothing but to bang her head to the nearest wall until the blood gushed out of every opening of her body, but he restrained himself.  She closed the door behind him and her expression instantly hardened, as though she wasn’t the one that had just been pleasant. “To what do I owe you this visit, Your Majesty? I thought I had made it clear that...” She wasn’t done with her sentence when he yanked her with her wrist and Danika felt the way her heart skyrocketed to her throat. He walked toward her and she kept taking a step back until there was no space between her and the wall. She stared into his eyes, they were so red that one could wonder if he spilt blood in them. She had always known vampires to have colourful eyes but he was different. The eyes of the Vampire King have always sent a chill down her spine. She took her eyes away from his, bracing herself for the worse that was to come.  “You’re my wife now,” he whispered, as he took a chunk of her hair that she had to whimper softly. She wasn’t going to show him that she was afraid of him. She tried to wriggle out of his hold but he placed his other arm at her other side to stop her from moving.  “And so what if I am? You’d never have what you want from me.” She uttered through gritted teeth and watched how he recoiled with anger. His pangs became more visible now and she was aware of the veins that threaded along his neck that she wondered what the hell was happening to his body. “Let go of me!” She spatted but he tightened his hold on her hair that she had no choice but to wail at the pain that surged into her skull.
