JAX’S POV
As I stood on the stage, my eyes locked with Lottie’s, I felt an overwhelming surge of emotions, unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The mate bond between us pulsed with an intensity that was impossible to ignore. It was as if a magnetic force had drawn us together, binding our souls inextricably.
I glanced at my brothers, Rocco and Calix, and saw the same shocked and bewildered expressions mirrored on their faces. They, too, could feel the undeniable pull of the mate bond. It was as if fate had chosen Lottie to be linked to all three of us, an unprecedented and perplexing situation.
The crowd began to murmur, whispers and gasps filling the air as they observed the spectacle unfolding before them. I heard snippets of conversations from people in the crowd.
“How can Lottie, a lowly maid, be mated to the alphas?”
“This is unheard of! It goes against tradition!”
“The mate bond is undeniable. The moon goddess must have a reason for this.”
I knew the murmurs and doubts circulating in the crowd were justified. It was unheard of for an alpha to share a mate with his brothers, and even more so for that mate to be a mere maid, someone from the lowest rung of the pack hierarchy.
But I couldn’t deny the strength of the mate bond between us. It was as if the moon goddess herself had decreed this connection, and we were powerless to resist it.
Taking a step forward, I reached out towards Lottie, an unspoken invitation in my gesture. As she hesitated, her eyes flickering with uncertainty, I felt the connection between us grow stronger. I knew she could feel it too—that inexplicable pull that seemed to defy logic and tradition.
“Lottie,” I said, my voice low but steady, “come to us. Embrace the mate bond that fate has bestowed upon us.”
Lottie stood there, her eyes wide with shock, and Calix stepped forward, his voice firm but gentle. “Lottie, you are our mate,” he said, his words echoing in the hushed silence of the gathering.
Her breath caught, and I could see the emotions warring within her. “No,” she screamed, her voice filled with defiance. “I won’t be mated to you, to any of you.”
Calix’s expression softened, and he took a step closer to her. “Lottie, please understand,” he implored. “The mate bond is something we can’t ignore. It’s beyond our control, beyond anyone’s control.”
Her eyes flashed with anger and fear. “I won’t be a pawn in your traditions,” she spat. “I won’t be tied to anyone I don’t choose.”
Before any of us could respond, she turned on her heel and bolted from the gathering. I could see the determination in her every step as she ran towards the borders of the pack’s territory.
“Where the f**k is she going? Is she planning on running away from us?” I asked with a scoff.
Rocco nodded, a hint of concern in his eyes. “That’s plausible. We can’t let her go. We have to bring her back. The mate bond is too strong. We can’t ignore it.”
My jaw clenched, and I gave a sharp command to the guards nearby. “Go after her,” I ordered. “Bring her back, unharmed.”
The guards didn’t hesitate, quickly fanning out in pursuit of Lottie. The crowd watched with curious and concerned expressions as the chase unfolded before them.
In the aftermath of Lottie’s departure and the guards’ pursuit, my brothers and I turned to the pack’s priestess, seeking answers and confirmation. “Is the mate bond with Lottie real?” I asked, my voice tinged with both hope and concern.
The priestess regarded us with her wise, knowing gaze. “Yes,” she replied, her voice steady. “The mate bond is genuine, a gift from the moon goddess herself. It is rare, but it does happen—sometimes, fate intertwines the lives of individuals in unexpected ways.”
Calix, Rocco, and I exchanged glances, absorbing the weight of her words.
Rocco stepped forward, addressing the crowd with calm authority. “The Full Moon event is disbanded,” he announced. “Please return to your homes.”
The pack members dispersed, their curiosity and whispers filling the air. I could sense their confusion, but we had no choice but to deal with this situation privately.
As the crowd cleared, Calix, Rocco, and I retreated to the living room, our minds fraught with thoughts of Lottie and the mate bond that bound us. I couldn’t shake the feeling of emptiness in my chest, the yearning to make sense of what had happened.
“What do you guys think about all of this?” Calix asked as he approached the small wine bar at the corner of the living room.
I let out a sigh, running my hands through my hair.
“I don’t know, I never expected to find out that our personal maid, the same girl we have treated badly, is our mate.”
“Even on our birthday at that,” Rocco chuckled.
I heard the sound of sloshing and turned to see Calix, pouring a bit of whiskey into three wine glasses.
“I don’t have any problems with it, if I’m being honest. I do think Lottie is rather cute,” He smirked.
I watched him walk over to us and hand us each a glass a whiskey.
I took a sip, the burning liquid glazing my throat as I listened to Calix speak. “We can’t keep treating Lottie the way we have,” he said, his voice firm. “Now that she’s our mate, we need to treat her with respect and kindness.”
Rocco nodded in agreement. “You’re right,” he replied. “We haven’t been fair to her, and it’s time for us to change that.”
I sighed, feeling the weight of our past actions bearing down on me. “I know we’ve made mistakes,” I admitted.
Calix looked at me earnestly. “We need to show her that we can change,” he said. “That we’re willing to do better.”
Rocco added, “It won’t be easy, but we owe it to Lottie and ourselves to make this mate bond work.”
“We can start by talking to her,” I suggested. “We need to explain how much she means to us and that we want to build something real together.”
Calix nodded, his determination evident. “And we have to be patient,” he said. “Lottie needs time to process everything, and we have to respect her feelings.”
Rocco agreed. “We can’t rush her into anything,” he said. “But we can show her that we’re here for her, no matter what.”
I listened to my brothers, in disbelief. The emotions welling up inside me, these feelings that were developing for Lottie, I could not comprehend them.
