LOTTIE’S POV
I stood before Calix’s desk, my eyes meeting his as he sat there with an air of calm authority. Calix, the youngest of the three brothers, was known for his captivating charm and his ability to manipulate others with a disarming smile. But for me, those charms had no effect—I despised all three of the alpha brothers equally.
Calix’s features were striking, with a strong jawline and wavy dark hair that fell just above his eyes. His eyes, the color of deep sapphires, held a mix of mystery and power that made it difficult to look away. Despite my disdain for him, I couldn’t deny his undeniable handsomeness.
I watched as he leaned back in his chair, his fingers steepledtogether as he regarded me with a knowing glint in his eyes. “Lottie,” he said, his voice soft yet commanding, “I have a task for you.”
My brows furrowed as I braced myself for whatever he was about to say. Calix had always been unpredictable, and his requests were no exception.
“You’re to join the workers downstairs,” he continued, “to help construct the stage for tonight’s Full Moon event.”
I was dumbstruck. The Full Moon event was a grand celebration, and the construction of the stage was typically handled by the male omegas, and now Calix was telling me, a woman, to join them in doing hard labour? It this was not to spite me, I could not think of any other reason why.
I couldn’t hold back my frustration. “Why should I do the work meant for the male omegas?” I retorted, my voice tinged with anger.
Calix’s expression remained calm, but there was an underlying edge to his words. “Because I said so, Lottie,” he replied firmly. “You will obey my orders, just like everyone else.”
I felt a wave of resentment wash over me, but I knew the consequences of defying an alpha. I gritted my teeth, begrudgingly agreeing to his request. “Fine, I’ll do it,” I said through clenched teeth.
His smile remained, but there was a hint of something colder in his eyes. “It’s best not to test my patience, Lottie,” he warned, “or you might regret it.”
I turned on my heel, determined not to give him the satisfaction of seeing my frustration. As I left his office, I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his request than met the eye.
As I descended the stairs towards the workers’ area, I steeled myself for the task ahead.
As I reached the workers’ area, I was met with the sight of male omegas bustling about, hauling heavy wooden planks and setting up the stage for the Full Moon event. The shock of seeing them engaged in manual labor while I, a slave, and a female at that, was expected to do the same coursed through me like a bitter jolt.
Anger surged within me, but it was a familiar emotion—one I had grown accustomed to suppressing. This was the reality of my life, constantly being reminded of my place in this hierarchical society. I might despise the alpha brothers, but I had learned to navigate their demands and expectations with a facade of compliance.
Biting my lip to quell my frustration, I reluctantly joined in, lifting wooden planks and carrying bricks alongside the male omegas. My hands shook as I struggled to keep up, my legs threatening to give in under the weight of the heavy loads.
But I refused to give up. I couldn’t allow Calix—or anyone else—to see my vulnerability. So, I pressed on, determined not to show any signs of weakness. The male omegas glanced at me, some with surprise and others with amusement, but I kept my head down, focusing on the task at hand.
The hours seemed to drag on as we toiled away under the unforgiving sun. I felt the sweat trickle down my forehead, and my muscles screamed in protest. My back ached, and my feet felt like lead, but I pushed myself forward.
As I carefully placed a wooden plank in its designated spot, I glanced around the workers’ area, intending to grab another one to carry. My heart skipped a beat when I spotted Jax and Rocco approaching. Their presence alone sent a surge of anxiety through me.
With smirks etched on their faces, they sauntered closer, and I could feel their eyes fixated on me. “Well, well, well, look who decided to join in on the fun,” Jax sneered, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Rocco chuckled, his gaze never leaving mine. “The little maid thinks she can handle the same work as the males. How adorable.”
I tensed, my hands gripping the edges of the plank I was about to pick up. Their taunts were all too familiar, but I refused to let them see the hurt they caused. “I can handle it just fine,” I retorted, my voice steady.
As I moved to pick up another plank, Jax abruptly shoved the pile of wood I had just set down. My heart pounded in my chest as the planks toppled over, nearly crashing down on me. My reflexes kicked in, and I tried to push them away with my hands, but they were too heavy.
“Struggling, are we?” Jax taunted, his eyes gleaming with malice.
Rocco chimed in, “You know, you should just beg us for help. It’s the least you could do after all the trouble you’ve caused.”
I gritted my teeth, refusing to let them see me break. “I don’t need your help,” I spat, even as my strength wavered under the weight of the planks.
But it was too late. The planks came crashing down on me, and I cried out in pain as they struck my side. The world spun, and darkness threatened to engulf me as I fought to stay conscious.
The pain was intense, and I felt myself losing strength with each passing moment. The pain intensified, and I felt my head throb intensely. Soon after, the world faded to black.
