Nash was standing in the lantern room, having teleported there using the memory of the pictures his teacher had shown to him. From his vantage point, he could see almost the whole town. The shack was easy to identify since it was a solid block of darkness. Taking a deep breath, Nash started aligning the led with the little store, hoping from all his heart that the plan would work and his friends would be rescued. Once he had the job down, he turned it on. The beam of light shot from the led and hit its mark perfectly. Nash stood there for a moment, unable to do anything but watch. There was nothing at first, but ever so slowly, the darkness began to disappear. Soon enough, there wasn’t a single shadow to be seen around the shack.

As the creature’s eyes neared her, Autumn was ready to give up. She felt the cold touch of its hands..and then she didn’t. Slowly opening her eyes, she looked around to find that everything was back to normal. Almost, anyways. Faith was lying on the ground beside Esther, who thankfully was slowly getting up, and Autumn turned out to be holding the arm of an unconscious Nova. She saw another body at the end of the room but wasn’t able to tell if it was Nash’s or the other boy’s.
“Nova? Are you alright,” Autumn asked slowly, her voice cracking a bit.
A soft groan escaped the unconscious girl’s lips, and she slowly opened her eyes.
“Where did the creatures go?” was the first question Nova asked.
“They escaped. Thanks to me of course,” Nash said as he walked in.
“Oh really? So you didn’t just teleport and enjoy your time outside,” Esther asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Sure not! Why would I do something like that? I went to the lighthouse and used it as a way to scare them off,” Nash replied, offended.
“That was actually a brilliant idea. Good thing you thought of it or we would have all been dead by now,” Esther said as she leaned over Faith.
“How is she,” Nova asked, noticing Faith.
“She is hurt pretty badly, but I am sure I can do something about it,” Esther said, trying to figure out a way to rescue her friend.
Autumn got up and walked to the farther end of the room, where another body lay, motionless.
“Are you okay,” she asked, concerned.
There was no response at first, but moments later, the boy slowly raised his head and looked at Autumn, a dazed look in his eyes.
She waited for him to ask anything, but he didn’t utter a single word, instead choosing to look around.
“I guess all of us are fine then,” Autumn finally announced, more glad than she could ever explain. They had encountered an attack by shadowy, brutal creatures, and yet somehow managed to survive it! How cool were they?!

Esther squeezed her brain, willing it to work on a solution. Her wounds had healed on their own, thanks to her relic, but how could she transfer this power to others. She thought about it for a moment, then tried the thing she felt was the most initiative. Esther held her hands over Faith’s body and thought about wanting it to heal. She imagined the scratches disappearing, the bones aligning together-that was in case there were any broken bones-, and finally, Faith waking up. She kept her eyes closed for a second, too afraid to look at what she might’ve done. It was the moment she heard a cough when her eyes popped open, and standing there, was a perfectly healed Faith.
“I did it! I did it,” Esther exclaimed.
“What is wrong with her,” Faith asked, weirded out by her friend’s sudden outburst.
“Nothing,” Esther chuckled, finally containing herself.
She would celebrate her victory later. Right now, they had a job to do and a relic to find.

After realizing the old lady was gone and explaining to her grandson everything about the whole situation, Nova closed her eyes and lied on her back for a while.
It turns out that those creatures, according to the book, were the soldiers of the Evil Mistress, their one true enemy.
“So you’re telling me that I am the one to have the power of the second relic,” the boy asked ridiculously.
“Yes. That is why we need you to come with us so we can find the gem and get out of here,” Faith answered, rolling her eyes.
“Will this rescue my grandma, "the boy asked.
“I suppose it will. Once we figure out a way to defeat the Evil Mistress with the relics, that is,” Esther replied.
“Then fine, I’ll do it. If you need the gem at the top of the palace, then you will get it,” the boy said dryly.
“How are you planning on doing that,” Nash asked skeptically.
“I have my ways, but if you must know-” he continues but Nova cut him off.
“We don’t need to know that. Just go and bring and we will wait here.”
The boy nodded and headed outside, not speaking another word.
“Why would you do that? He could be working with the king! He could go report us all and send us to jail,” Nash voiced his concerns.
“I don’t think he would do that. He seemed to love his Grandmother, so I bet he would do anything to rescue her. We have to give him a chance because he is our only one,” Esther jumped in, understanding Nova’s decision.
Nova nodded and the others took that as a yes, but it wasn’t..entirely. Nova knew how it felt to lose someone you cared about, she felt it when her Grandma passed away, so she could relate to what the boy was going through at the moment. That was the reason she didn’t want to pressure him, after all, she wouldn’t want anyone to do that with her.

After a few minutes had passed, maybe hours, the boy returned. In his hand was The Invisible Relic. He’d done it! He’d managed to get the gem from under the nose of the king and his soldiers! Nova’s celebratory moment died when she heard the angry shouts coming from outside the shack.
“Does anyone know how to make a hasty escape,” the boy asked, flashing a smile.
Nash sighed and held out his hand as Faith slowly took it. When they all did the same, the boy shrugged and took Autumn’s hand. Not knowing where exactly Nash was teleporting them worried Nova, but she trusted him to get them somewhere safe. A second later, the scene in front of her dissolved into that of the desolated desert where they landed when they first came here.
“You couldn’t think of any other place other than this stupid desert,” Faith complained.
“If you don’t like it, it would be my pleasure to take you back,” Nash told her teasingly.
Faith bit her tongue but said nothing, clearly not wanting to hear any other sarcastic comment from Nash. Nova fought hard to keep her lips straight and not laugh out loud.
“Did the gem say anything to you when you touched it,” Esther asked the boy.
“Yes it did, “You are the wielder of great power,” he replied.
Noticing that they didn’t know what the boy was named, Nova asked for it.
“I am Arlo. And you are,” the boy-Arlo- asked.
They each took turns introducing themselves and chatted a bit, using the moment as their free one since they have deserved one the moment they set foot here.
After enjoying their time, talking and laughing, they became serious once more. Nova got the book out to see what Arlo’s relic could do. It turned out the gem could make anyone or anything disappear at any moment, except for the holder of The Teleporting Relic, which only seemed fair since Nash could teleport anywhere he wanted. Noting that she took a look at the relic they had to find next, and it made her a little worried. The gem was a black oval with splotches of color all over it and beneath it was written “The Destruction Relic”. Nova knew that nothing good ever came out of destruction. Ever.
