Saying goodbye

“Mena! Mena! Wake up! You are going to miss your flight!”  Aunt Lizzy shook Ximena who was fast asleep in her bed. Her flight was at 7 pm but she decided to take a nap before she boarded.

“Mena!”  Aunt Lizzy woke her up shaking her gently, Ximena groaned as she turned covering her head.

“Hey! You are going to be late” Aunt Lizzy pulled off her sheet, exposing her to the cold. Ximena made a whimpering sound before she sat up in bed. “What time is it?”  She asked aunt Lizzy

“Well, It’s past 5 pm. You have an hour to check in” Aunt Lizzy said going to check if Ximena’s passport was in her bag.

“Oh, Life Is hard aunt! Can’t I just have some decent sleep?”  Ximena asked her eyes closed; Aunt Lizzy went to get the glass of water which on Ximena’s side table. She waked to the bed splashing it on Ximena’s face. Ximena gasped opening her eyes widely in shock “Aunt!”  She yelled wiping the water with her hand from her face

“What?  You are a doctor! You should be proactive and not some lazy ass who acts like a princess” Aunt Lizzie said taking out the clothes she planned for Ximena to wear putting them on the bed, Ximena groaned for the last time before she dragged herself out of bed. She was forced to take a shower which she didn’t want to when she finished, she came back to the room she dried her hair and put on the clothes her aunt had chosen for her. She wore black smart pants, a white shirt and a nude jacket with flat pumps. Aunt Lizzy forced her to sit down to blow dry her hair and styled it in an updo.

“You are going to miss me, aren’t you?”  Ximena teased looking at her aunt in the mirror who shook her head with a frown

“Of course, you will, for three months aunt you won’t have anyone to force into wearing what you want,” Ximena said turning to her aunt

“I definitely won't miss you! I have had to deal with this for 21 years of your life I don’t think I will miss you. It will be actually like taking a vacation for myself” Aunt Lizzy said and Ximena chuckled looking at her “Well I will miss you. Especially that you get to do my hair” Ximena said keeping quiet for a short time

“Well You can tell me all about it when the time comes, right now we need to get you to the airport,” She said as Ximena quickly got up checking her things before rushing out. Aunt Lizzie’s Boyfriend James was the one driving her to the airport

“Passport and ticket?’’  James asked Ximena as she came downstairs

“Well, I have everything I need this to my amazing aunt,” Ximena said winking at her aunt who was walking to the car.

“Great! We should go” James said walking with Ximena to the car, James and her aunt had dated for 10 years they decided not to have any commitment was not important as long as they loved each other. All the way to the airport, aunt Lizzy was busy asking Ximena questions about where she will be staying and if she will see the nature in Africa and Ximena kept on insisting Africa was not a country but a continent

“So, I will see so when I get back?”  Ximena asked her aunt who had a long face all of a sudden

“Of course! Just make sure you eat your meals and get enough sleep” Aunt Lizzy said to her and she nodded her head,

“Of course I will. Already drew up my meal plan” Ximena said making James and aunt Lizzie chuckle softly

“Please take care of her and make sure she doesn’t call to find out if I have found a man yet,” Ximena said to James who hugged her tightly

“I will make sure she doesn’t even get close to her phone” James whispered to Ximena as she smiled widely turning to her aunt who was fighting back tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.

“Are you crying?”  Ximena asked her aunt checking her face as her aunt wiped the tears from her face

“Well I think something got into my eyes” Aunt Lizzy replied to her looking away

“It’s okay to miss someone. Because I am definitely going to miss you” Ximena said to her aunt who quickly pulled her in an embrace, sniffing.

“I will miss you so much!”  Aunt Lizzy admitted holding tight to her

“I will miss you too, please make sure you take your meds and stay healthy until I come back” Ximena whispered to her aunt who nodded her head breaking the hug

“Wait! I have something for you” She said taking out something from her bag/

“I thought it might help you in case there any mosquitos” Aunt Lizzie said to her, Ximena nodded her head getting the bottle from her and smiling at her

“Take care of yourself, and in case you want to come back just call okay? If you are scared just say a little pray and the virgin Mary will be able to help you” Aunt Lizzie said clapping Ximena’s face in her hands as she gently rubbed her cheeks

“Aunt am 29 years old am an adult, people are looking at me awkwardly,” Ximena said under her breath

“It feels like you are still the 7-year-old girl leaving me again,” Aunt Lizzie said tears falling from her eyes.

“Oh Aunt!”  Ximena said as a stray tear hit her cheek closing her eyes, she pulled her aunt in her arms.

“Ximena that’s your flight you should get going before you miss it” James said to her and she broke off the hug. Ximena swallowed hard looking at her aunt who held her mouth trying to stay strong/

“Please take care of yourself! And send us pictures of the place you will visit” James said to Ximena who couldn’t help but shed tears as she dropped her head walking away as she kept waving at her aunt. Jacinta stood by waiting for her friend to compose herself as she walked in the terminals going to board the plane.

“Hey, you okay?”  Jacinta asked Ximena who nodded her head, sniffing and wiping her tears.

“I feel bad leaving her behind,” Ximena replied as she settled in her seat, fastening her seatbelt

“Well you will be back, it’s not as if you are going for war. Plus consider it a vacation as well” Jacinta said making Ximena keep quiet looking out the window.

“Africa here we come!”  Jacinta said under her breathe as the plane took off. Ximena’s mind was trying to think of something that could keep her distracted, Maybe Jacinta this was a vacation that she definitely needed the most.

Ximena spent time reading books and listening to music for her 15-hour flight with a stop in Ethiopia before continuing her flight to Zambia.

The plane touched down at the Kenneth Kaunda Airport in Zambia at 9 am, they got off the plane and looked around as they were being welcomed by diplomats from the embassy

“Welcome come to Zambia!”  The gentleman from the embassy welcomed them as Ximena smiled looking around taking in the new surrounding

“William here will take you to the Hotel after resting you can come to the embassy for documentation and other formalities,” He said to Ximena and the other eight doctors, five nurses and other people they came with.

They cleared their documents before walking to the cars which were waiting for them. “Because could you organize a sim card for me?  I forgot to get one for myself at the airport” Ximena said to William who nodded his head as he drove them to the Radisson blu Hotel where they were going to be staying.

Ximena stepped out of the SUV and stood at the entrance with Jacinta as they looked around at the hotel reception. It was not so bad as Aunt Lizzie described it, she checked in after everyone did and was given a key to her room. She made her way to the room where she went with her luggage, ass soon as she entered the room, she put her things on the table after giving the porter a tip, she stretched herself going to the window to open it. She looked at out the window inhaling deeply and exhaling as she looked outside.
