“I HAVE TO GO NOW, MAMA,” Romina said as she fixed her backpack after she tied her shoelaces. She, then, stood up and walked out of their door.
Her eyes rolled when she saw Luciel who was now wearing his school uniform and now smiling at her.
Where the heck did he get that uniform?
If she really didn’t know that this guy was a demon, she'd think that he was just an ordinary boy.
“Wait, wait baby!” her mom rushed out the door to give her three containers of snack and lunch. “This is for you, this is for Marivic, and, of course,” her mom eyed Luciel beside her. “To your friend, Luciel.”
“Thank you—”
“Mama, you don’t have to bother giving him lunch,” Romina said begrudgingly.
“Oh, c’mon, sweetie, don’t be like that to your friend. This is actually my token of gratitude to him because he escorted you home safely,” her mom giggled at Luciel as she gave her the container for his lunch.
Luciel looked at it and his gaze settled on Romina’s mom again and smiled at her. “It’s my pleasure, Mrs. Cristi.”
Annoyed about the conversation between her mom and Luciel, Romina grabbed Luciel’s backpack. “Mama, we have to go now. We’ll gonna be late!”
“Okay, dear! Take care you too!”
“Hey! Hey! Watch it!”
Romina abruptly let go of Luciel’s bag. “Listen here, you demon…”
“My name is Luciel and I’m not JUST a demon. I’m your guardian demon.”
“You just made it fancy.”
“Because I like fancy!” Luciel responded, pouting at her playfully.
“I don’t care!” Romina exclaimed. “Listen here, Luciel. I know you have powers because you’re a demon but please, PLEASE stop bewitching people, you hear me? You did it to my mom for you to stick with me but please, don’t do it! Stop doing it!” she warned, then she sighed. “Seriously, why did you transform into a human?”
“So it’s easier for me to watch over you.”
“But you can just do it without appearing like that.”
“It’s boring to watch over you with my invisible self, you know?”
Romina frowned as she massaged her temples. “Seriously, you're a headache to me.”
Luciel grinned at her, rubbing his chin. "A handsome headache."
"Shut up, Luciel. That's not even a compliment. Ugh."
Romina could actually feel that her head would explode as soon as they went inside the school’s building. She couldn’t bear the stares they received at the gateway, how much more in the hallway and in the lobby?
This is ridiculous.
“Oh my gosh, who is he?”
“He’s so handsome!”
“He’s really gorgeous!”
“Hashtag new Bae in school!”
“He’s tall! Is he a varsity player?”
“God, this is so annoying. Can you stop drawing so much attention?” Romina rolled her eyes for the nth time and shook her head.
Luciel grinned at her and whispered, “Are you jealous?”
His voice sent chills through her spine and she bet that she would get flustered by the question, but dismissed it by walking ahead of him. “In your dreams, Luciel!”
The demon just stood there showcasing his mischievous, evil grin as his eyes followed Romina, but in a split second, his face became serious as he looked at the corner of the lobby. He, then, held the strap of his bag and followed Romina.
“Okay, class. Settle down. Settle down,” the homeroom teacher of Grade 12 STEM A said as he gestured his class to sit down. “So today, I’m going to introduce to you your new classmate. Please introduce yourself, Luciel.”
Luciel stood up beside their homeroom teacher and smiled at his “new classmates”. “Hello, my name is Luciel Damon. Pleasure to meet you all.”
Romina’s classmates stared at him in awe. Everyone is silent but it was changed to major squeals and giggles from the girls who were fangirling about his posture and looks.
She couldn’t help but sigh. If they knew what he really is.
“Can I ask you a question?” one of their classmates asked. “Where do you live?”
“Girl! That’s a lame question!”
“Seriously? You really asked that?”
“Girl, he’ll think about you as a stalker or something. Hahaha.”
“I’m just curious, okay?”
“I live with Romina,” Romina’s head shot up to look at Luciel, who was now looking at her as well. “If that’s what you want to know.”
The whole class’ eyes are on Romina right now. The latter couldn’t help but just stare at them in awe and mentally slap her forehead.
For the love of pie, why did he say that?!
Marivic eyed her best friend with her mouth agape. “You didn’t tell me about this.”
Romina gave Marivic a helpless look. If only I could, you know?
“You live together?!” her classmates asked.
“Well… umm… he’s actually my cousin and… umm… he’s been living with us here for a while so he chose to study here,” Romina explained. I’m sure I’m going to hell for lying.
“Ah, so you are cousins…” her classmates kept nodding and she couldn’t help but sigh because they seemed to believe it.
“You are cousins, I see,” their homeroom teacher nodded. “Mr. Damon, you can actually sit behind your cousin. It’s an empty chair.”
“Thank you, sir.”
Romina felt so helpless that she couldn’t help but internally cry. She felt like this guardian demon of hers totally brought her bad luck.
“A cousin, huh?” Romina glared at Luciel who was now smiling at her playfully.
Romina widened her eyes at him, mentally threatening him. “Just pretend you are, you i***t, and shut the f**k up!”
Luciel stared at her in awe and chuckled, mocking her. “Wow, my good baby girl is cursing.”
The latter gasped and covered her mouth, then she proceeded to glare at him who was now flaunting his mocking grin at her. She, then, grabbed her book and slammed it on his hand, making him wince in silence. She felt triumphant. “Here’s the book, PINSAN! I’ll let you borrow that for a while,” she didn’t wait for Luciel’s response, so she turned her back at him and focused her attention on the board.
Luciel couldn’t help but smile and slightly shook his head. But his face suddenly changed into a serious one as he turned his head on the classroom’s window, glaring at something that his humanly brown eyes changed into a hellish red.
“Hmm.”
