1478 Words
Romina's eyes widened the moment she heard those words from the stranger--or more like the unknown creature who was holding her right now." “My guardian from what?!” she repeated, asking. “From the underworld,” he pointed to the ground. Romina gasped once again and hastily pushed the guy away. “You’re a…” He’s… he’s a demon. “Yes, I am.” Romina creased her brows, looking at the mischievous demon in front of her. Did he just read my mind? She turned her head towards her stalker who was now lying on the ground, eyes wide open and terrified. Like he saw something evil, something hellish. Romina looked at the guy in front of her once again and ran by the call of her adrenaline rush, she shrieked and ran away from the guy—from the demon. There’s no way a demon is the one who saved me! They’re evil, he’s evil! She heard the door open. Romina’s mother turned her head towards her daughter who was now taking her shoes off hastily. “Oh, finally dear you’re home! I thought you'd be early—” “Mom, I’ll need to go upstairs!” Romina responded as she ran to her room without paying attention to what her mom was talking about. “Hey, Mina—” As soon as she reached her room’s door, Romina hastily opened it and entered. She, then, closed it with a ‘slam!’ and leaned her back on the closed door, panting. “Good heavens, I got home safely,” she muttered to herself as she swallowed her saliva when she felt that her throat was running dry. She turned her head at her closed door and took a deep breath. I hope that creepy guy—or demon—didn’t follow me home. “Is that how you repay me for saving you, leaving me like that?” As soon as Romina heard that familiar voice, she suddenly felt the chills down her spine. She slowly looked up and gasped when she saw the demon sitting upside-down on her ceiling. “Is that how you show your gratitude towards your savior, huh, Romina Cristi?” the Demon smirked at her. Romina shrieked. “AAAAAHHHHH!!!” The demon winced as he covered his right ear with his index finger. “Wow, your scream can actually break my eardrums in no time.” “What are you doing here?! Ho-How did you enter my room?! How did you follow me?!” Romina asked, hysterically. “Oh my gosh, please don’t kill me, I’m begging you! Have mercy!!!” The demon flew down to her bed and plopped himself on her fluffy sheets. “Uh, technically, I’m your guardian. I was assigned to guard you.” “No way…” she trailed off. “You’re a demon…” The demon’s left brow quirked up. “And…?” “Guardians are angels! You’re a demon! I don’t believe you! You’re lying!” the demon rolled his eyes and stared at Romina who was about to throw a tantrum. What a child. “I won’t deny the fact that lying is part of my nature since I’m a demon. But listen here, midget. I ain’t lying here. I was assigned to be your guardian by the God the Father himself. You see, the angels were outnumbered as of now because of the celestial war that happened a few centuries ago…” Ce-Centuries? That long?! Romina’s jaw dropped as she listened to the demon. “…and since some souls were actually in training and tested to become angels, which will take—about years to complete—so they are not yet qualified to be angels and guard humans, and because of that, angels can’t actually cope with the rapid growth of human’s population, so the God the father himself asked the King of the underworld to sent some of his fallen angels to guard the humans which include,” his sharp, black claws pointed himself. “Me.” “I-It’s impossible,” Romina slightly held her head because she felt like any moment now, she'd be having a headache because of the demon in front of her. “Angels and demons were enemies! How come you'd guard humans?!” “We’re part of the positive and negative elements of the celestial ecosystem. We need to balance those elements. And you see, I’m actually here, as your guardian, you midget.” “This is totally impossible! This is crazy! I don’t believe you!” “Ugh,” the demon couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “What part of what I said is so hard for you to understand? Seriously.” “You have to get out of my room and my house now!” Romina showed him a crucifix. “I don’t know how to exorcise demons but you need to get out of the house! Pronto! Aaaaaahhhh!!!” “Aw! Hey! Hey! Hey! Watch it! Not the hair! It f*****g took me so much time to fix it! Hey!” “Get out! Out! Out!” she was about to pull the demon to her window but she suddenly stopped when a bright light suddenly crept on her window, causing her to fall on her feet and cover her eyes. “Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!” “Finally, on time, Gabriel.” “Gabriel…?” Romina whispered to herself as she slowly opened her eyes when the bright light slowly died down. Her eyes widen that it almost fell off their sockets when she saw a gorgeous angel in front of her. Just like the novel she’s reading, this man is wearing a bright white robe, huge, shining white wings, shiny blonde hair, and a gold halo on top of his head. His eyes were heavenly blue as well. It’s so beautiful and ethereal. “Why did you come out without her summoning you? It’s not the right time,” the angel named Gabriel said in a calm yet authoritative voice. “Uh, Gabriel, she’s actually in danger. What am I supposed to do? Let her get killed? Well, if that’s the case, then I shouldn’t have wasted my time back there.” Romina hastily stood up to her feet and walked towards the angel who was now looking at her. “A-Are you my guardian angel? Are you here to get rid of this demon bugging me?” The demon frowned at her. “Hah?! What’s that supposed to mean?!” Gabriel smiled at her. “I beg your pardon, my child, but I am not your guardian angel.” Romina frowned, confused. “W-What do you mean? It’s my birthday tomorrow, right? And I was about to summon my guardian angel and it was you, right?” Gabriel kept flaunting his smile as he shook his head. “I’m not your guardian angel, my child. I am Gabriel, the messenger of God the father and I think He’s aware that you might have misunderstandings with your guardian because he suddenly came out without you summoning him, so I came here to clear the misunderstandings on behalf of your guardian.” “You don’t have to clear anything, Gabriel. I had already told her the truth. She’s just too dumb to understand what I’m trying to tell her.” “M-My guardian? You-You mean…” Romina’s eyes trailed on the demon who was actually smirking at her, like he was mocking her. “Yes,” Gabriel responded. “This demon is Luciel, your guardian.” “Wa-What? How come he became my guardian?! He-He’s a demon! I-I’ve been a good girl to my parents. I never did anything bad to other people! So why?!” “We know that, my child. But you see...” Gabriel trailed off. “Some demons were borrowed by the God the father himself to guard some humans. You see, the angels were outnumbered as of now because of the celestial war that happened a few centuries ago…” “That’s what I told her,” Luciel, the demon added, as he looked at Romina begrudgingly. “…and since some souls were actually in training and testing to become angels, which will take years to complete. So until the angels in training are ready to guard and guide humans, these demons—like Luciel himself— are assigned to guard the humans temporarily until the angels in training are ready to be sent down to earth and guard humans,” Gabriel explained. “So you mean…” Romina’s eyes settled on Luciel once again. “Luciel will be your guardian as of now,” Gabriel responded, smiling softly. Luciel, the demon, smirked at her. “Hey there, midget. Your guardian evil at your service!” Romina couldn’t help but cry internally. This can’t be real?!
