“They failed to save this certain angel they cherished the most. And Luciel was blaming everyone… including himself.”
“WHAT IS THIS?”
Romina looked at Luciel who’s now frowning at the snack he was holding.
“A cupcake,” Romina said as she sat beside him. “I know demons don’t eat human food because you barely taste it either as what L told me when I gave him chocolates the last time but I don’t have anything to cheer you up aside from food so just eat it and pretend that you could taste it.”
Luciel looked at it for a second or two and slowly ate the cupcake. His face went from cringe to his normal blank expression. “I barely taste anything aside from I could feel something slimy on my tongue. Human delicacies are indeed weird.”
“Hah? Weird? Then, what’s your delicacy underworld then?”
“Oh, we have—”
“Stop,” Romina immediately raised her hand. “Stop.”
“I haven’t said anything yet,” Luciel said as his hand with his three fingers full of cream on the mid-air.
“I shouldn’t ask about that. I already know,” Romina said, putting the cupcake she half-eaten down her plate. “Thinking about it gave me so much goosebumps from my nape down my spine.”
“You’re just exaggerating,” he said, l*****g her three fingers clean and Romina immediately gave him tissues.
“I’m not exaggerating.”
Luciel just shook his head and they fell into total silence. It took them a minute or two before Luciel finally spoke, breaking the silence between them.
“I know you already had so many questions inside your mind the moment you met Sachiel and Percival that day,” Luciel looked at the bookshelf in front of him. “And I am aware that the moment you saw Sachiel who looked exactly like me, there’s so many questions inside your mind—about me and my past.”
“Uh, a-at first, yeah. I did think about that. I did think about how a demon had a twin who’s an angel, from the different realm and I just have so many questions that I couldn’t even count anymore.”
“And you did ask L about it.”
Romina immediately looked at him. “How did you—”
“It’s obvious,” Luciel said. “But even though L was part of me, there are things that he just couldn’t access on me.”
“Sorry… I did invade your privacy with regards to that matter,” Romina told him. “I was just very curious but now, I’m already okay if I didn’t know anything about your past. I am just worried about you that time so I did want to know everything about you to the point that I almost crossed the line.”
Luciel was silent for a few seconds before he spoke once again. “I knew Simeon not because we’re both guardians from this realm but because we knew each other centuries ago. That time…” he turned his head at her. “I was once an angel.”
Romina did hear from L that Luciel was once an angel fallen from grace—and even Simeon did give her hints about it—but it was still a shock for him to know coming from Luciel himself.
Like, how come a demon like him was once an angel, right?
AND WAIT, DID LUCIEL START TO OPEN HIMSELF UP TO ME?! Romina silently gasped at the thought that if she could just scream, she already did.
She didn't force him to say something about anything related to his life but here he is, he's starting to tell her about his life... his past in general.
“Both Sachiel and I were made on the same day by the god who rules the Celestial Realm, known as the Father of all mankind. Compared to the other angels, we’re one of the few that were made as kids and grew up. One of those few were me, Sachiel, Simeon and… Serenity.”
Serenity…
“We’re actually many, so to speak. But the only ones who were with me and Sachiel were Simeon and Serenity,” he said.
“You’re like… childhood friends?” she asked. Luciel looked at her and she immediately cleared the word up. “Childhood friends I mean, you know, you became friends since you were little then you grew up together.”
“It’s that how you humans call that?” he asked.
“Uh… yeah.”
“Hmm. Maybe you could consider us as childhood friends,” he said. “We’re always together for centuries and we even studied together to become guardians for humans. Sachiel and I were offered to become archangels because the enlightened ones from the higher-ups saw our potentials, especially Michael and Gabriel but we refused. We just wanted to be guardians so we could be together with Simeon and Serenity. Of course, we trained to become guardians for humans and one who was actually excited about it was Serenity. Serenity really likes humans so much that she wished to go to the human realm and interact with humans. That’s why she decided to become a guardian in a heartbeat.”
Romina silently listened to him.
“At first, both Sachiel and I were scared about how Serenity was so fond of humans to the point that she sneakily interact with one. She almost got punished because she’s not yet finished with her training to become a guardian yet she interacts with a human, letting him see her. That human is actually a ten-year-old child for as long as I could remember. Such a sneaky brat.”
“She’s acting like a human. It’s actually one of a human-like trait, you see,” Romina couldn’t help but comment that made Luciel look at her. “I also did that when I was a kid. My mom told me not to play outside but I sneakily went outside. I almost got scolded because of that so I could relate hahaha.”
“Serenity may be like that but all the angels in the Celestial Realm like her, adore her even. Because aside from she’s such a gentle, kind angel, she’s also a strong one that she could even pass as an archangel. Much stronger than us. Everyone adores her in the Celestial Realm and we cherish her as well,” Luciel’s smile faded as the conversation goes on. “Until one day… that day, that fated day—as what they call it—happened.”
“That day?” Romina asked. “What do you mean ‘that day?’”
“The huge Celestial War,” Luciel looked at her and this time, Romina could see the faint crimson red in his eyes. “The day we lose Serenity.”
