ROMINA’S EYES SETTLED ON LUCIEL’S BROAD BACK as they walk towards her house’s door. Luciel didn’t actually have the mood to go back to class so they decided to go home. Romina told Marivic that she’s going to accompany her “cousin” who’s not really feeling well since no one could take care of him at this moment. Her mom was on a team-building for a day or two so only the two of them occupied the house.
Luciel silently went upstairs and Romina’s gaze kept following him. She couldn’t help but sigh as she settled the food they bought from the convenience store nearby on the kitchen table and went upstairs to check on Luciel. As soon as she entered, she saw so many black feathers around her room and Luciel was on her bed, clasping his both hands together and he’s shaking. His nails slowly turned into sharp black claws and his horns also showing off.
“I am upset and I don’t feel good so just stay.”
It seemed like he suppressed his feelings the moment he went to see her at school and he waited until they finally got home.
He was panting and she could see his eyes gleaming in crimson red.
Romina couldn’t help but felt guilty while looking at him. She’s the one who set him up to talk to Sachiel and she didn’t expect that this will happen.
If only she didn’t force him, set him up on that, this will not be going to happen.
She was about to walk towards him but he suddenly spoke.
“Stay away,” with a hoarse voice, he said.
Romina was scared, in all honesty. This is the first time she saw Luciel in this state so it was frightening for her. She wanted to run away, leave him alone.
But no, she couldn’t.
Recalling the moments that she’s in total danger and trouble, or when she’s upset and sad, Luciel never failed to be by her side all the time.
He may be a demon, he may be stronger than her or anyone else, but he still needs someone to be by his side.
She slowly walked towards him and she could hear him growling.
“I said stay away!”
Romina flinched and gulped but still managed to walk towards him. She slowly kneeled in front of him and slowly, oh so slowly but surely held his both hands. “I’ll stay. I’ll stay for you, Luciel.”
“You human, you’re such a hard-head! Do you realize that I could kill you right here, right now in a snap?!”
Romina shook her head and flaunted a smile at him. “You won’t do that, Luciel. You’re my guardian and I trust you that you can’t and will never hurt me. So trust me when I say I won’t never, ever leave your side like this.”
By that, Luciel stared at Romina and she could see how he slowly turned back to normal. That made her sigh in relief as she gently cupped Luciel’s cheeks.
“You turned back to normal.”
Luciel slightly looked down. “Damn you. Humans are such hard-headed creatures which include you. What if I hurt you that moment?!”
Romina chuckled and shook her head. “You won’t do that. You can’t and will never hurt me because you’re my guardian and I trust you.”
Luciel sighed. “Why did you stay?”
“Do I really have a reason to stay on times that you’re being like this?” she asked which made Luciel look at her. “You did so many things staying on my side which includes protecting me and comforting me. This is the least I could do for you. After all, I am your human. I’m not just your human who you’re obliged to protect. You said it yourself, we’re more than that shallow word ‘friends’. That word can’t even cover up how bonded we are. You said that I don’t have to settle for that shallow word. We can be whatever I want us to be. Which means, you won’t settle as my ‘guardian’. You’re more than that.”
Luciel just looked at her in silence.
“I won’t ask you about what happened between you and Sachiel earlier but I just want you to know that I’ll stay by your side no matter what happened. Just have a little faith in me, hmm?”
“A demon having his faith in a mere human. That sounds so ridiculous,” Luciel slightly chuckled.
“At least that made you laugh.”
He shook his head. “Because it sounded ridiculous, that’s why.”
They went silent for a second or two. Romina noticed how the black feathers around her room slowly turned into dust and vanished. Her eyes settled on Luciel who spoke once again.
“Sachiel told me earlier,” he started. “That the reason why Percival is also here in your realm is that he knew Serenity’s soul’s whereabouts. Michael, one of the Archangels, told him about it while they investigate Percival’s motives in both the Celestial and Human realm and they discovered that Serenity’s soul got reincarnated and he was after it.”
Romina listened to him in silence.
He shook his head and bitterly chuckled. “Serenity got reincarnated as a human. That sounded plain bullshit. After what happened at that war centuries ago…”
“Luciel…” she muttered.
“But…” Luciel bit his lower lip as if he was trying to suppress what he was feeling right now. “If that really happened. I want… I want to see her. I want to see Serenity. I don’t care if she got reincarnated as a human. I just want to see her so bad. I…”
Before Romina could even stop herself, she immediately hugged Luciel. She gently patted his back and caressed his head trying to comfort him.
“I want to see Serenity,” he murmured on her shoulder.
“Whosoever this Serenity is, I know you’ll going to meet her soon. If you are destined to meet, you’re going to meet,” she said as she kept on patting his back. “We’ll be able to find her and you’re going to meet soon.”
Romina didn’t get any response from Luciel but that didn’t stop her from comforting her and giving him encouraging words.
I should be happy that somehow, Luciel trusted me on seeing this side of him.
But why… but why the moment he talked about this woman named Serenity, I felt a throbbing sensation inside my chest.
Why? Why did I feel such a thing?
