CASSIE WILLIAMS
As Uncle Lucas said, he would fetch me in the morning so that we can go get our wedding certificate done. We are in his car going there now.
I couldn’t help but look outside the car, hoping that we would drive past Wayne walking somehow. What irks me is that, Uncle Lucas does not agree or deny that he made Wayne disappear. I cannot put it past him because he has all the money in the world and can make things happen.
I will never rest until I find Wayne, although I wonder what he will think of me when he sees me. I had s*x with his uncle even on what was supposed to be our wedding day. I am so stupid!
“We are here,”
Uncle Lucas halts the car in the parking and kills the engine.
“Can I ask you a question?” I ask.
“Go ahead,” He permits me.
“Did you come back for me? Why did you choose to come back on my wedding day?”
“Do you think I will leave everything important for your wedding? I am a businessman, Cassandra. I don’t have time for your childish behaviour. I just got lucky to be there when your fiancé disappeared,”
So rude.
“Cassandra, as my wife I hope you know your place. Do not make trouble,” He warns before we get out of the car.
Gosh, seeing my reflection as I walk with him on the big windows of the building as we walk to the entrance makes me wonder how people will see me as Lucas’s wife. I am so tiny as if I am walking with my own father. I just never thought I would be with someone who is fifteen years older than me. It is a lot and it causes a lot of pressure.
Do I need to meet his standards? Will I have to act matured for him?
God, why am I even considering this?
We enter the building, and head towards the elevator. As we enter, a couple joins us and they look so happy. The lady is wearing a white dress, and the man is in black denim jeans, a white top, and a black jacket. It is very clear that they just got married and they are also here for their marriage certificates.
“I’m finally your wife, baby! I am so happy!” The lady exclaims, and the man pulls her before he kisses her on the lips.
I breathe out and look down.
My dream of becoming a wife came, but it didn’t happen. There was a plot twist that changed everything. I feel so bad for Wayne. He doesn’t deserve everything I did.
I cheated on him with his uncle and married him on what was supposed to be our wedding.
If only he confronted me rather than disappearing, I would feel at ease.
Finally, we get to the floor we were directed to, and find the secretary waiting specially for us.
“Mr. Jones, congratulations on your marriage. Please sit here so we can get your details and signatures,” The secretary says with a huge smile for Lucas. She doesn’t even seem to notice me, but not that it bothers me. He obviously has the charming looks, so every woman would definitely look at him the way she does.
As she is busy, Lucas’s phone rings and he excuses himself. I stay with the secretary who suddenly notices my presence as she looks at me.
“How did you do it?” She asks unexpectedly.
“Pardon?” I say.
“I know Lucas’s type of women, and you are definitely not one of them. Did you do it for money? Why would he marry someone so young, unstylish and not mature as you?”
I raise an eyebrow and turn my face to Lucas who is just across the room. He has one hand pocketed while the other holds the phone against his ear. He seems like he is on an urgent call. As if he feels my eyes piercing on him, he slowly turns and looks at me as he speaks on the phone, and our eyes lock instantly.
I can’t help but stay mad at him.
Things were not supposed to be this way.
I turn back to the secretary and smile.
“I think the answer you want is in your last question. Think about it though... maybe he is just tired of those old hags you call his type. He needed someone fresh to settle with,” I kindly tell her.
Before she could reply, Lucas returns but stays standing.
“Is it done?” He asks.
“Yes, sir. It will cost you 78 Dollars,” She says, no longer smiling but being professional.
Lucas takes out his brown leather Louise Vuitton wallet and pulls out his black VIP banking card and taps on the p*****t machine.
After we leave, Lucas asks,
“Did something happen while I was talking on the phone?”
“Like what?” I ask ignorantly.
“I don’t know. You both seemed a bit strange when I returned, so I assumed something happened,”
“You assumed wrong,”
“Okay. I thought we’ll have breakfast together, but I need to rush to the oil site and then head to the office. I will drop you off at the hotel now before I go there,” He says.
“I’m going home today,” I mention, not asking for his opinion.
“To do what?” He asks firmly.
We get to his army green jeep and stand in front of it.
“That is where I live,”
“You are married to me now. Your home is with me... if you don’t want to move into my house with me, we will keep living at the hotel,”
“Lucas, my mom is sick! I have less than two years to spend with her and she only has me to take care of her. I won’t leave her alone,” I disapprove.
“Lucas? You are getting too big for your shoes I see, little girl.” He chuckles.
Honestly, his name slipped out of my mouth. He gets me frustrated a lot, and it irritates me seeing him.
“Anyway, your mother can come and live with us, My house is very big,”
I have never been to his house or seen it, but I heard how massive it is.
“You are crazy!” I walk around the car and open the door before I jump inside.
He stands for a while and looks at me. He sighs then comes into the car.
“I don’t really get what makes you so upset, Cassandra! I thought you would be happy now that I am back. What went wrong?”
“You! I hate you, Lucas. You took my virginity and left me for a good year. You never called or texted me. I waited for you and thought you would come back soon as you said, but you never did. You made me fall out of love for Wayne thinking that you would come back for me, and just when I was ready to start my life with Wayne, you appear out of no where and ruin it for me,” An ache started deep in my stomach. I turned away as tears welled up in my eyes.
without saying anything, he pulled me into his arms and held me so tight in his chest.
