Emilia woke the next day alone in the large bed she was slowly becoming accustomed to. She hadn't seen nor heard from Theo or Tristian since the older brother, Tristian, sent her off to bed. Although, he did give her a grand tour of the popular pack she'd heard much about.
After looking around the quiet room she fell back against the sheets and put a pillow over her face. The light was blinding and she still wanted to sleep. A knock at the door prevented her from doing so. "Emilia!" She instantly recognized Joel's voice and called back a simple 'yes?'. "The Alphas request your presence when you are presentable in the kitchen."
She sat up after setting the pillow aside. "Thank you!" She called slipping out of the tall bed. After rummaging through the closet full of clothes she settled on a plain light blue dress and attempted to fix the mess on top of her head. Finally giving up, she tried tying it into a sloppy bun. Of course her curls won the battle against the hair tie and it broke. Luckily this has happened too many times for her not to have a back up one.
Finally looking decent enough to address her mates she skipped down the stairs almost tripping over herself a few times before she was in the kitchen. True to Joel's word both her mates were seated at the grand table in the dining room, just across the kitchen. A buffet of food was already placed on the table and awaiting her. Her stumbled grumbled just from the sight and an unnoticeably blush crept up her cheeks when Theo gazed over at her.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?" He addressed formally motioning for her to sit down. She sat in between them but their seats were still very far from her.
"Yes I did, thank you." She smiled gratefully. Theo handed her a plate full of different kinds of food and she silently thanked him. "When I see what you enjoy I will have the chefs start preparing it for future sittings ." Emilia slowly nodded not knowing what to say.
They ate silently besides the gentle hum she let out as she munched on her food. Her feet swung back and forth not being able to touch the floor, she was merely 4'11.
Tristian abandoned his plate and focused on her. He studied her without her consent as she busied herself with her food. After minutes of his unnoticeable stare she looked up and stopped mid chew. She looked like a deer caught in the head lights. It amused him.
Emilia slowly started to chew again looking back down at the delightful food prepared for the pack. When she glanced up to see if he was still staring she was captivated by his mischievous green eyes. They were soon directed to his younger brother when he spoke. "I was pleased to hear about your behavior, Emilia. I did have my doubts at first, you seem to get distracted easily." Theo stated wiping his mouth with a napkin. Her silence was a good enough reply for him before he gestured for her to come to him. After rising from her seat she waltzed over to him curiously. He took a new napkin and wiped her mouth gently.
"Go wash up. I'd like to take you for a walk after we clean." Her face must've showed all her excitement seeing as his lips pulled into a small smile. "Get to it, little wolf." She ran off barely remembering where the bathroom was located.
"Walk." She stopped in her tracks hearing Tristians stern voice from the other room but soon continued a fast walk. When she came back from washing her hands and face she took notice of the clear table. Rocking on her heels she waited impatiently for Theo to come back in her line of vision.
When he did she smiled brightly. "Come." He instructed guiding her out the front door. She enjoyed the cool air against her warm blooded skin. It was refreshing.
"Where are we going, mister?"
He didn't have an answer. "Where ever you'd like. It is still early, I don't have any meetings I need to attend to quite yet." Her mouth pulled into a frown. Upon her silence he looked down at his mate. "Is something wrong?"
"Do you have meetings a lot?"
He thought about it. "Frequently."
"Oh." Theo turned his eyes back to the scenery they walked by.
"Tristian and I do not accompany every meeting together. Rest assured you will not be left alone often unless you request to be."
She bit her lip. "Who are your meetings with?"
"Allies, pack members, rogues. It always depends. Did you not see your Alpha in meetings?"
"My Alpha spent most his time with us." He raised an eyebrow in question as to who she was referring to. "The scouts." She clarified. He became intrigued, Micha was a close friend of his. Well, as close as distant Alphas could be. Perhaps allies was a better term.
"These scouts you speak of, how many were there?"
"Only 7 of us. 8 before one of us passed." She remembered the day one of them fell. Alpha Micha and their top chief kept them out tracking rogues for days without food, sometimes water if they passed it, and the small wolf couldn't take it anymore. She passed in her sleep.
"How long have you been training?"
"Well, we start training as soon as we can shift." The normal age for shifting was 3 if you were breed from full werewolves. 16, if you came from a line of humans and werewolves. For the scouts, it was 3. "But the real training doesn't start until we're 15. So only three years." Theo's jaw locked. She looked up at him when he said nothing in return. "Alpha Theo?"
"You are 18?"
She grinned. "Almost 19." That would make her a good eight years younger than him and his brother. "My Alpha said when I turn 20 I would be the chief of the scouts because I was one of the "normal" ones. I don't really know what he meant by that, I mean I do but I don't think it's very nice. Just because we're not like the other werewolves doesn't mean we're not not normal. And-" He silenced her talking and allowed her to take a breath from talking so fast. He would need to work on that with her.
"Who is your chief now?"
"Ace." She mumbled. "I don't think he's very nice. He thinks he's all that since he was the first ever scout and he's very bossy." His brain worked fast but saw no outcome how there were seven of them, close to the same age with the oldest of them being 20.
His knowledge of scouts had been irrelevant till this moment but now he was wishing he knew a little more about them. "When are you deemed a scout?" Her eyebrows scrunched together in a confused manner.
"What?"
"How old are you parents?" He asked trying a different approach seeing the very confused look on her face.
"Scouts do not have parents. We have our Alpha."
"Surely you were born from someone."
"Alpha Micha said the Moon Goddess blessed him with the gift of us. I am not sure where I come from."
"You do not recall any memory of parents?"
"I do not have a 'parent'." She stated once more, the word feeling foreign on her tongue. "He said we come from the moon goddess herself." He nodded but was still very adamant for more answers. Answers he'd get another day.
On their walk back to his house her eyes lingered on the cellar that was shadowed by three very large trees but was still in plain sight. Your eyes just weren't drawn to it right away. "Eyes forward, little wolf."
"What's in there?"
"Nothing to concern yourself with." She couldn't help but to think otherwise. "Eyes forward." He stated a bit more sternly and she finally obeyed doing as he said.
When they walked back inside the house, the scent of the forest still lingered on them and she enjoyed it. "I have paperwork I must be getting to. You are most welcome to join me or Tristian. I believe he is in room, you may check or go in your room. Just no leaving the house." She nodded and chose to find Tristian knowing she'd have trouble sitting still while he did his paperwork.
"Wait Alpha Theo!"
He turned to her after taking a few steps in the direction of his study. "I prefer just Theo from you, Emilia." She mentally made a note to herself of that.
"Um," She opened her mouth but nothing came out. It closed and a frown took its place. She'd forgotten. Theo waited patiently seeing her skim through her head for what she wanted to say. "Oh! I remember now." She smiled proudly. He chuckled lightly at her accomplished look. This must happen a lot. "Joel said the room you're having me stay in is meant for you two and your mate but you did not occupy me last night." Her prideful smile slowly slipped into a frown.
"In due time, little wolf." He turned on his heel and headed for his study. After regaining her thoughts she traveled up the stairs and sniffed around trying to find Tristian scent. It was easy for her to find. When she did she knocked on the door he must've been behind.
A few pauses later the door opened revealing her mate in just a towel. Her jaw became slack before she slapped two hands over her eyes. She heard a light laugh rumble from his chest before his large hands covered her much smaller ones and took her hands away allowing her full access to view his body.
"Woah."
His full black eyebrow raised in a questioning manner. "Did you need something, Emilia?" He crossed his arms and halfway leaned against the door frame.
"Um," She was at a lack of words staring at the very defined chest in front of her face. Her hand slowly extended out poking every one of his six abs. He looked down upon the she-wolf with slight amusement in his eyes. Two fingers were placed under her chin and before she knew it she was staring into the same entrancing eyes.
"I asked you a question. I do not like repeating myself."
"Uh," She tried remembering what he had even said, "Theo is doing paper work and I get bored alone because I don't know how to work the tv still, it hurts my ears when I turn it on. But I didn't want to go with Theo because we haven't talked that much and paperwork seems too boring cause I can't sit still very long and you two seem like you'd get annoyed by that. So I wanted to talk to you more." She finished sucking in a breath.
He tapped her chin lightly. "You must learn to pause between your sentences. They become jumbled and less authoritative."
"Okay." She breathed out nodding quickly. "I just don't want to be alone." She stopped and counted to three in her head. "And I think paper work is boring." She stopped and counted again. "And I want to be with you." After repeating the same thing she said before but with much longer pauses she gazed up at him for what seemed like approval.
"Good girl." He approved in a quiet raspy voice. His thumb brushed against her lip for a hesitated second before he reluctantly dropped his hand to his side. "Now, would you like to come in?"
