Theo examined Emilia as she hummed softly to herself. "You're bored." Her shimmering hazel eyes snapped over to him. She felt her ears warm at his accusing stare.
Her head slowly shook in denial. "I'm not." Theo ignored the dishonesty and set his pen down, giving her his full attention.
"I apologize for the lack of attention. I have a meeting soon and have much delayed paperwork." The warm blush spread to her cheeks almost unnoticeably but she could certainly feel them burning.
"It's okay." She assured softly. "Who is your meeting with?"
"Don't concern yourself with such thoughts." He dismissed standing up from his leather chair. Emilia watched his every move until he stood next to her with an extended hand. Placing her hand in his, he led her over to the door before escorting her out.
"I will introduce you to our Beta. He will stay with you while I am in my meeting."
She nodded but felt her wolf whimper from being away from him. "Where is Alpha Tristian?"
"He will be attending the meeting as well." Her mouth formed a small 'o'.
"Mister?"
"Emilia."
"When you're done are you going to come get me?"
"I will." He confirmed holding her much smaller hand in his. "Behave while I am gone. I will be asking Joel of your behavior."
"I will, Mister."
The rest of their walk Theodore was mostly silent, occasionally giving a short curt answer while she rambled on about anything she could think of. When a male wolf came into sight she cut her sentence off and stepped closer to Theo, almost hiding behind him. "Joel." Theo greeted with a blank expression. The beta bowed his head in respect before his eyes landed on the short she-wolf next to him. "This is our beta."
Emilia looked up at her mate and he assured her with a nod of his head. She stepped out from behind the Alpha but still stood closely. "I saw you earlier."
"Did you?"
"Uh huh. You were out by the trees." She grinned proud of herself for remembering a face she'd only seen for a split second.
"I do recall your scent. It's nice to officially met you." He bowed his head again in a greeting and she giggled.
"You don't have to do that, silly." He gave a small smile to the little wolf before addressing his Alpha.
"I have informed Alpha Tristian that she is on her way and will be here within the next fifteen minutes."
"Thank you, Joel." He turned to his mate after letting go of her hand. "I will have him show you to our room, if you decide you'd like one, a tour will be granted. If not, Tristian or myself will give you one afterwards." She grinned excitedly at the thought of seeing the pack she's heard so much about. "Do make sure she behaves, Joel. She is after all a potential Luna."
"Yes Alpha."
After giving Emilia a lingering stare Theo left Joel and her alone. She eyed the beta warily. "Does Alpha Tristian always have you look after others?"
"Only the important ones. I'll show you to your new room if you'll follow me." He walked off and she slowly trailed behind him wishing Tristian or Theo were there with her. Joel would stop every few steps to allow her to catch up before continuing.
"Your legs are too long, I can't walk that fast." She whined quietly running to catch up with him for the third time. She heard his quiet laugh surround the empty hallways before they reached a pair of double doors.
"This is your room that you will be accompanied with the two Alphas."
"They share a room?"
"This room has not been used, it is for the purpose of the Alphas and their mate." She nodded still not getting the full answer she desired but decided to not further question him. Walking in she was definitely taken aback by the sheer beauty of the room but she did not the lack of comfort it had. It seemed just for show, not for living.
Her eyes lit up when she found the tv. "Can we watch something on it?! My Alpha never let us watch tv!"
"You may." He allowed and watched her kneel in front of the tv. Her eyebrows drew together putting her small finger in one of the holes the tv had and nothing happened. Emilia turned around hearing that same airy laugh.
"That would be the eject button, dear."
"I knew that." She rushed out quickly not wanting his help. "I was just seeing if there was one of those shows in it." Joel simply stood back and watched her struggle to work the thing.
She gasped sharply when it flickered on and static surrounded the large room loudly. Her ears twitched trying to figure out how to turn the deafening sound off. Joel finally took matters into his own hands and turned the television off. "May I show you how?" She smiled sheepishly.
"Yes please."
He took her hand in his and led it over to one of the buttons on the side. "This is a way to turn it on and off, this is to turn it down or up."
"But there's only two buttons."
"Yes." He confirmed.
"But you said three things." He was silently trying to understand what she meant. When he finally realized, he explained.
"The on and off button are the same." She bobbed her head up and down but found that logic confusing. "This remote does the same but allows you access anywhere in the room. This is on, and this is the volume. Simple enough?"
"Yes."
He turned the tv on for her and her eyes widened when people showed up on the screen. "Woah." After giving her the remote she fiddled with it for a while, accidentally turning it off three times. When she finally saw 'spongebob squarepants' pop up she became entranced by the childish sponge.
After finishing two shows of spongebob a new show appeared after it. "Hey! What happened?"
Joel hid his amused smile and grabbed the remote from her. "Perhaps we can find something else to do in the mean time."
"Fine." She huffed glaring at the untrustworthy television. He guided her to the bed and she was surprised but how comfortable it was. It looked anything but. "Who is Alpha Theo and Tristian talking to?"
"That would be Luna Claire." Her lips pulled into a frown. "She is a neighboring pack just beyond the eastern border."
"Why is she here?"
"There is a reason you were not to attended that meeting, Emilia." She rolled on her stomach and propped her head on her hands.
"My Alpha told me secrets are bad. They lead to death."
"Your Alpha is not wrong."
-
Tristian sat back in his chair with a look of boredom. "Claire, if you don't mind if I interrupt, my brother here did not call you down to our pack for some kind of truce if that is what you keep trying to persuade." The Luna gave a distasteful look to the Alpha for cutting her off. "It has come to our attention that since your mate passed your pack is not living up to its name."
She glared at him for speaking of her dead mate. "Richard died protecting us and I am making damn sure it was not for nothing."
"Pity really," he remarked tossing the pen down to his desk. "I did admire the way he got things done." His eyes looked up to hers in a way suggesting he didn't approve of hers.
"What my brother is saying," Theo cut in. "is that perhaps a new ruling is in order." Her jaw went slack for a few moments before she regained her posture.
"You are not honestly serious? This pack is as much mine as it was Richards, I will decide if that ever happens and I can assure you it will never."
"But that's the thing, Claire." Tristian spoke casually. "That pack was yours, when it was Richards. Now that Richard is no longer here to still lead that pack someone must step in before it is taken by force. Do you understand what I'm getting at?"
"Over my dead body." She seethed.
"Now now, there is no reason for such haste. I would not resort to killing if not unless necessary."
"You will not touch my pack nor my people."
"I said nothing of touching your pack, Claire. I would appreciate if you sat down and we could finish this meeting like adults."
Theo took over trying to calm the Luna. "We're merely suggesting that you think about resigning."
"There is nothing to think about. No way in hell would I accept."
"We did think you might say that."
Her jaw locked. "That is my pack and I will be damned if you take it under my authority."
Tristian made a tsking noise and sighed almost as in mock pity. "But it's not under your authority, Claire. Perhaps if you were there in the flesh, your pack would have a better chance." She felt an ache in her chest hearing his words.
"Now if you don't understand what we're getting at I can further elaborate." Theo suggested. "Hypothetically if the one leader a pack had left for let's say, a meeting and it was left unattended without the help of their strongest wolf, what chance would they really stand?" Her hand clutched her heart with so much force her nails caused blood to seep out her skin. "Speaking from little experience I know a wolfs death of vain can cause their leader harm." He sucked in a breath. "But a whole pack? That must be intolerable."
Theodore rose from his seat and assisted the weakened Luna over to the office door and swung the door open. Their Gamma stood there waiting instructors. "Good day, Claire."
He watched with authority as their Gamma led her out of the house and out of his eyesight. "I have something else I need to attend to. Do get Emilia and give her a tour." Theo left his brother without awaiting a reply and Tristian stood heading to the room he hadn't been in, in months.
He opened the door and was welcomed with an interesting sight. Emilia stood on the bed as Joel sat in front of her with a brush in her hand. Joel did have a full head of hair that she could a lot to. He took notice of the bathroom light still illuminating and assumed she'd found all the beauty products.
"Emilia." She stilled hearing her name before turning towards the door. A smile instantly adorned her face when she saw him. After plopping down on the bed she slid off the high bed and soon stood in front of him excitedly.
"You're finally done!"
He smirked down at her before lifting her chin to meet his eyes. "Were you well behaved?" She bit her lip unknowingly and looked at Joel for conformation.
"She was."
"Delightful." He grinned devilishly. "I will be sure to inform my brother."
