There was nothing more painful than the person you love specifically forgetting everything about you. The people that have anything to do with you, the events, the memories, anything as long as you are in it.
There was called selective amnesia and that is Jerry's condition when he woke up. He could remember everything, everyone except from his memories that started with Rosie. The last thing he could remember is when they are on their way to the restaurant with Hayley to meet his future husband who is Liam.
That was 10 years ago, which Rosie and other people in his recent life are not existing in his memory.
The doctor explained it to them while Jerry fell asleep again after he took his medicine. That explains why Jerry couldn't remember Seul-ki, the first person he saw when he woke up. Then there's Hayley, his grandfather and his mom. He could remember them but when he saw Liam, he started asking who it was but since he dozed off while asking a lot about Liam, he didn't notice the woman standing near the door.
Rosie held back her tears all throughout the conversation and just listened to them. She didn't know what to feel, or to even react about Jerry's situation.
"All we could do is to wait until he gets back his memory." The doctor said lastly before he excused himself to make rounds to other patients.
"You should go, I will take care of my son." Mrs. Kim said, specifically to Rosie since she was looking at the woman.
"No." The former chairman refused. "I think Rosie needs to stay and she will be the one who will take care of my grandson."
"But dad—."
"Let's go home Merly." The old man cut off Mrs. Kim to her supposedly protest. "Let Ms. Park handle her soon to be husband."
Rosie was surprised and couldn't find her own voice so she just bowed her body to the old guy, biting her lower lip to stop it from quivering as her tears welled up.
"We're going to stay here too." Liam said and he looked at Mrs. Kim for about three seconds before bowing to the old man.
"Okay then. I will leave my grandson to all of you and I'll be back tomorrow." He then said and motioned his hand for Mrs. Kim to push his wheelchair. Though Mrs. Kim obviously hated the idea that she needed to leave his son to Rosie, she couldn't do anything about it because she needed to be on the good side of her father so the old man would take his son in law back to their family and company.
She rolled her eyes at the young ones before pushing her father out of the room and left. The old man still made sure that no one would get inside the room even if Jerry had already woken up so he left more than 10 bodyguards outside the VIP room.
"Now what?" Seul-ki asked after they were the only ones inside the room.
"The doctor said that it could be temporary so I think we have to wait." Hayley replied while staring at her best friend's face.
"For how long? I mean, the old man is still insisting on marriage with the two, so Jerry needs to marry Rosie even if he can't remember her?" Liam asked, a bit worried about the situation of his best friend.
"There will be two options with their situation." Hayley started, she walked to the other side of the bed to fix Jerry's pillow. "One, we can start telling him everything so he can remember a bit." She continued.
"What's the second option? Don't tell me Rosie needs to call off the wedding which is not going to happen because once there was an arranged marriage in the royal family, there's no way in hell we could stop it even if one of them is against it." Liam tells them and Hayley knows better than anyone else because she's a product of an arranged marriage with Liam.
"The second option is they will create new memories together and start over again." Hayley said and this time, she looked at Rosie, searching for any reaction from her. "What do you say?"
"I.. don't know." Rosie mumbled while playing with her fingers.
"Okay, those were just suggestions but if you're not comfortable with it, then just forget it." Hayley shrugged her shoulders.
"I'm sorry, I just can't think of anything else right now."
"We understand." Hayley softly said and she smiled at her understandingly.
"I should get going, I need to take a rest, I'll be back this evening." Seul-ki said and they all agreed. Liam walked him out of the hospital while Rosie and Hayley left in Jerry's room where the guy was still sleeping because of the medicine.
"Hayley." Rosie called softly while the crimson haired woman is preparing some food for them to eat while waiting for Liam to return.
"Yes?" Hayley replied without looking at the woman.
"Do you think it is possible to create new memories with him?" Rosie asked and that took Hayley's attention. She stopped what she was doing and turned around to face her friend.
"Of course, Rosie."
"But what if.." The blonde paused and shifted her gaze at Jerry. "He wouldn't like me the way he liked me when we first met?"
"I'm sure he will like you. You know when Jerry first laid his eyes on you back at that restaurant, he was struck by your beauty. He was a victim of love at first sight and couldn't stop talking about you. So I'm sure that it will never change, Rosie." Hayley's words were just the best assurance that Rosie wanted to hear and it made her smile because Jerry never told her anything about it.
"Thank you." Rosie smiled delightedly.
"You don't have to thank me because Jerry will always head over heels for you and I'm just telling the truth here."
"Even so." Rosie chuckled.
Liam finally got back after a few more minutes and they started to eat the food that his wife prepared for them and while they were eating, Jerry suddenly woke up and he pushed himself to sat up and turned his head towards the three, who didn't even notice that he's already awake.
His eyes laid to the unfamiliar woman but that was for only two seconds then shifted to the only guy with the two women and he felt irritated at the sight of him sitting next to Hayley.
When his best friend introduced Liam to him as her husband, he felt the very familiar pang on his chest and pretended that he was happy for them. He dozed off while still asking questions to Liam and that made him pissed off.
Liam felt a pair of eyes and a burning gaze on his back, burning a hole for how sharp those glares, so he looked over his shoulder and saw Jerry glaring at him deadly.
"You're awake." Liam stated the obvious and the other two women turned around.
"Jerry!" Hayley exclaimed and she stood up from her chair to approach the guy. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm fine." Jerry smiled at her.
"I'm calling the doctor." Liam said as he pushed the button on the side of the bed. "How are you buddy?"
"We're not buddies." Jerry said with his rest b***h face and it made Liam feel the embarrassment and the realization that Jerry couldn't remember him.
"S-sorry."
"Jerry, that's rude." Hayley scolded the guy but Jerry just rolled his eyes and showed them that he's not fond of Liam's presence inside the room.
"Don't worry babe, we were talking like that when we first met before." Liam chuckled.
"Anyway, I want you to meet someone." Hayley pulled Rosie near the bed with a wide and excited smile on her lips. "This is Rosie."
Jerry just glanced at Rosie and nodded his head slightly, showing a bit interest in her and shifted back his eyes to Hayley, which the three of them saw it.
"What are they still doing here?" Jerry asked, his voice laced with irritation that he didn't even try to hide.
"Jerry, they were your friends and Rosie—."
"I couldn't remember about them okay? So please stop saying that they are my friends."
"Jerry.."
"Just send them out, Hayley and please come back as soon as possible." Jerry then lay down again and pulled the blanket up till his head.
The three were just staring at him and staggered at his actions. Though they know Jerry has been like that even before but they didn't know that they would see this side of him.
"I'm really sorry." Hayley said and Jerry heard footsteps walking away and when the door was shut, Jerry uncovered himself but didn't look behind him.
"I don't know what the f**k is going on, but married to that guy? Isn't it too much for me to take in? I just woke up from a coma—." Jerry stopped when he turned around and saw Rosie instead of Hayley. His eyebrows knitted in the middle and he looked around, but when he didn't see Hayley, he looked back to the blonde woman in front of him. "Where's Hayley?"
"They already left."
"W-what? Why would she left me?!"
"They have a daughter waiting for them at home." Rosie replied.
"D-daughter? What do you mean? They have a child?! How long have I been sleeping?!"
"Two to be exact and—."
"Two weeks?! But Hayley is already married and has a child?! What the hell?!"
"Calm down, okay? Hayley and Liam have been married for 9 years, their daughter is already 8 years old." Rosie said which made Jerry more confused.
"What? Didn't you say that I only slept two weeks? How—."
"You have amnesia, Jerry." Rosie reminded him and that made Jerry shut up and stared at the woman but she didn't appear at his sight.
"So.." Jerry gulped thickly after a minute of silence. "Who are you?"
"I'm Rosie Park."
"And?" Jerry pressed, he wanted to know the answer yet he's scared.
"I'm Liam's best friend." Rosie added and by the disappointment she could see in Jerry's eyes, she knew that it's better not to tell him who she is in his life even if it hurts her.
"Why are you the one in here?" Jerry asked again. Rosie couldn't find any answer to that question and she's trying to find any reason but can't come up with one good reason. "Nevermind, just give me my phone. I need to call someone."
Rosie quickly looked for his phone and it was on the bedside table, so she grabbed it and handed it to Jerry, then she backed away immediately and stood on the corner while Jerry started calling someone on his phone.
"Grandpa, where are you?" Jerry asked as soon as the old man answered his call.
"I'm in my house, kid. Why?"
"Why did you leave me with.." Jerry paused and he stole a quick glance at the woman. "A stranger."
"A stranger?"
"Yes, she said that she's Hayley's husband's best friend."
"Oh, that's Rosie. You're wife."
"M-my my my what?!" Jerry blinked his eyes rapidly upon hearing his grandfather.
"You're wife, she didn't tell you?" The old man asked. Jerry darted up his widened eyes to Rosie, his mouth popping open and close but no words coming out from it. "Anyway, I'll be there tomorrow so please be good to your wife, this will be your second and last chance to her, I hope you make it up to her after you ditched her in your wedding before." After that, the old man hang up and Jerry left dumbfounded with his mouth agape.
Rosie started to feel awkward the way Jerry stared at her with an emotion she couldn't name.
"H-how did it happen?" Jerry asked in confusion. "My grandpa said that you are my wife?" More of a question than a statement, Jerry said.
"I-I'm not."
"He said that I ditched you before, may I know why?"
"I.."
"Is it because of Hayley?" Jerry asked and Rosie was taken aback with that question that she didn't have the chance to continue her words and just stare at him. "Look, I'm really sorry for what I did before and whatever the reason, I just know that it was all because of Hayley because I love her and.." Jerry paused to take a deep breath and exhaled. "It hurts to know that she's already married."
"You have feelings for your best friend?"
"Is it ridiculous? I mean, I've been with her for so long and it's not hard to develop feelings towards each other." Jerry shrugged his shoulders. "So I'm really confused on how I ended up being your husband?"
Rosie was hurt, confused and had a lot of mixed emotions inside of her but the dominant is pain. Jerry's confession is really out of nowhere and she never thought that Jerry would say those words to her, especially his feelings towards Hayley. Her best friend's wife.
"You are not my husband." Rosie said and she smiled at Jerry. "But we are in arrange marriage."
"Great, so we can still call the wedding off!" Jerry exclaimed like he could just finally breathe.
"Y-yeah." Rosie laughed dryly and she forced her lips to form a smile at the guy who seemed didn't notice how badly she was hurt.
