NOT A TOY “What about Helena? I thought __” “The last time I checked, my affairs were not your business. You should see to it that Viktor stops smoking to stupor.” He said, turning to help Kathy with picking up her luggage. “This is Katherine, like I said, my soon-to-be bride. As for Helena, we parted ways because she was not ready for any commitment.” “You're welcome Katherine.” Pella, Carlson's mom said, standing on her feet to go meet Katherine. “That's not all.” He said, holding Katherine's hand. “We don't plan on pushing the wedding forward, we're going to have it this weekend,” he said as they all gasped. “What do you mean? You know what you're doing, but trust me i won't __” “You must be tired, Katherine. Carlson took her in and make sure she's comfortable.” Pella said, cutting Mary's statement short. Pella and Mary got married to brothers who both died in a car crash on the same day. As Katherine followed Carlson up the stairs, she looked around, her eyes on the beautiful paintings on the walls. “So that should be your cousin and his mother, I guess?” “You could tell?” He asked, unlocking his bedroom as they walked in. Her bedroom was way bigger than that, but she wasn't going to expose everything right here. He needed to believe she's got no dime on her. “So it'll be best if you have a nice rest after freshening up, I'll tell the maid to send your dinner upstairs.” As he walked out, she picked up her phone and thought of calling her brothers. But I thought better of it. She slid her laptop out of her bag and sent a message to them through her mail. “That should be enough for tonight.” She whispered before walking into the bathroom. As she walked out of the bathroom, a knock resounded through the door. “Come on in.” “A slender looking maid walked in with a tray containing food and her smile radiant. “Mr Carlson sent me over, by the way, I'm Olivia.” “Thanks Olivia, I'll let you know when I'm done. Where's Carlson?” “Oh, he's with his mother in her office, he'll be with you very soon.” As the maid walked out, she sighed, smiling sheepishly as she chuckled. “Can't believe this life is mine.” “Mom, I'm really glad we could get her before the week runs out, Viktor and Fiona are going to tie the knot very soon.” Carlson said as Pella laughed out. “I've got a smart son, your father was older, so it's only right if you get eighty percent of the wealth __” “And then my son gets twenty percent?” Mary asked, walking into the office as Pella rolled her eyes. “What are you doing here? You couldn't even knock.” Pella screamed at her. “Just the way you took the office to be yours without thinking for once if I'd need one.” Pella chuckled, her eyes twinkling with mischief. “You barely know anything aside from fashion and it's laws so you should stay clear of an office.” Mary's nose flared up as she swallowed hard. “Where did you pick your toy from? Don't think I know it's just a charade, you've got a girlfriend and that's Helena.” “Exactly, and Katherine is not a toy, she's my woman,” Carlson replied. “So you're getting married this weekend, what prompted such an act? The will?” “I think you should leave, you weren't invited.” Carlson walked over to the door and threw it open, waiting for her to walk past him. As Mary walked out, Pella placed her hand on her chest. “She's something else,I just hope she doesn't spill the truth out to Katherine. It won't be good.” “Katherine knows about it, I had to lie to her about loving her. That's why she agreed to help me out.” Pella gasped, locking the door quickly. “That would be a terrible thing to do. What if she finds out about Helena? What are you going to do about it?” “Mom trust me, I know exactly what I'm doing and when it's time for her to know Helena, she will.” Pella shook her head, sighing loudly. “It's not going to end well, trust me.” Carlson walked out of the office and headed back to his bedroom where Katherine was already asleep and snoring lightly. “Tomorrow we're going to begin the preparations.” He whispered and walked into the bathroom. The next day, Mary and Viktor watched as the event planner sat with Katherine and Pella sorting through some things. “I've got the perfect plan, I should get going.” Mary said as Viktor stopped her. “What are you trying to do mom?” “I'm going to the marriage registry office, I need to act fast. If they're issued a fake marriage document, you can get married to Fiona and get the wealth for us.” He seemed to think about it for a while before nodding. “That's true mom, go on and do that.” As she walked out, Viktor stared at Kathy and Carlson. “You don't know what's coming, and it'll be so big and shocking.” He smiled evilly before walking to his bedroom. Mary got into her car and drove out of the compound, trying to drive faster than usual. She even refused to go with her driver. As she got to the registry office, she placed a call to the woman she knew in there. “I'm outside, come over immediately.” She said, looking around to make sure no one had followed her. “Good day, Mrs Astonville.” “Good day, here I want a fake certificate, just like I told you over the phone, you know what to do.” The woman nodded as Mary extended a fat envelope containing money. Pella sat in her car watching the entire exchange with a smile on her face. “You'll never change Mary, will you?” She whispered and ducked her head behind the wheel as Mary drove past her. She'd been going out when she noticed Mary driving towards the registry office. “Well, it's time to find out what you're up to, Mary, it's time.”
