His eternity

1552 Words
*Cali POV* “I saw things getting tense with you and Leroy. Are you okay?” Marcus asks with his usual concerned brotherly tone. “Never been better, Brother.” Now that I know how to handle Sky, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me. He leans backwards and studies me before giving me a sharp stare. “Don’t even think about it.” “What?” “Leroy and your virginity. You…” “No, silly! I was dumb when I wanted that. I’m eighteen and wiser.” “That was only a few weeks ago,”he points out. Marcus really takes this big brother role serious. Not that I am complaining. It feels good to have someone watching over me. “That was before I turned eighteen.” He narrows his eyes at me. “What is it then?” “I know how to keep Sky in check.” I can’t hide my excitement as I relay to Marcus my discovery, but he is not so thrilled. “What is it?” Now it’s my turn to ask. “Leroy told you to come with me to Danlow?” “Yes, but I’m not doing that.” “Do you realise that no one has ever confronted Sky like you do?” His tone tells me that I am missing something. “What’s that supposed to mean?” “I am Leroy’s best friend but I am certain that Sky would have killed me months ago if I did half the stuff you have gotten away with.” I don’t fully get his point but my heart is already sinking. “You are trying to tell me something.” “The prophet told Leroy to never let you off his sight or he would be doomed for eternity.” My throat is suddenly dry, I can feel a headache coming. “Wha..what?” “Him letting you go to Danlow is …”Marcus hesitates. “He is sacrificing his eternity,” I complete his sentence with a melancholic voice. I don’t completely understand what it all means but our prophet is never wrong. “Leroy is terrified of hurting you but that’s not what I’m worried about,” Marcus continues after a moment of silence. “Seriously? What can be worse than what you have just told me?” Why can’t I have normality in my life, just once? “You having that impact on Sky means you are connected to him in some way.” I frantically shake my head. I can’t be connected to that selfish brat. “Otherwise he would have killed you for defiance a long time ago,” he adds. My head is now spinning because I know that Marcus is right. Challenging Leroy or Sky is deadly for anyone, no matter their rank. Somehow, they get on my nerves so much that I completely forget my rank and who they are. An Alpha wolf is not very tolerant of any disrespect, yet I am here. “You have to come to Fallow with me,” I urge Marcus in desperation. He laughs and shakes his head. “Danlow is the only varsity that offers the mine engineering.” I sigh. I know this but this rollercoaster of my life is better with him around. “Besides, I can’t be around the two of you anymore. It’s not good for my peace of mind. I might even end up being killed by my Alpha and best friend.” “Sky knows how much you mean to me. He will never kill you.” He lifts his eyebrow while I curse under my breath. I did not think that through. “Do you realise that what you just said proves my point?” “Can we talk about something else?” I suggest. This conversation is getting too heavy for me. “Fine. I have a gift for you from Flora.” “Flora?” “She feels really bad about chasing you out of our home and…” “I know Marcus. She called and apologised like a hundred times. She is a really good person and we are fine,” I quickly reassure him because I know how long he took to forgive her for that. He lifts his eyebrows, clearly not believing me. “We speak every other day. Besides her thinking she’s my big sister when she’s a few months older than me, she is great and good for you.” I mean every word. Flora turned out to be really kind. I am truly happy that Marcus found a good mate. “So, you don’t want to hear what she got for you?” His tone piques my curiosity. “What is it?” “Her name is Betty.” “No ways!” I exclaim in excitement, unfortunately attracting too much attention. Now everyone is looking at us. Marcus laughs while I recollect myself. “How? When?” I can’t hold my excitement as I hug Marcus. He tried buying Betty from Diana before but she was too suspicious after selling me and discovering that I am no longer a slave. Him, Leroy and Linda had to lay low to not arouse suspicion about their slave saving mission. “Last week. Diana had no issues selling her off to another park. You will see her this weekend when we visit Palmland pack.” “I can’t wait!” Marcus laughs before Leroy approaches us and offers me his hand. “We already danced!” I try to keep my voice down. Our two dances were intense enough to keep me awake at night, I don’t need a third one. “The prom king and queen close the dance floor,” Marcus explains while his friend hovers above me like I am prey he can’t let out of his sight. I guess I am, his eternity, whatever that means, depends on it. “You lit up the hall when you smiled and your laughter is music to my ears.” “Yours or Sky’s?” “We are the same, mostly.” “I will work with you to find out what this is,” I blurt out, shocking myself and him. “Why the change of attitude?” “I think I can handle Sky.” “Good.” “Anything I should know?” “I met with Prophet Rufus of Lily town yesterday,” he says casually but this is big. Prophet Rufus is one of the great prophets in the world. There is currently no consensus on who is the best between him and ours. “What did he say?” “The same thing our epsilon said. All the packs will convene here. The full moon will reveal all.” “You are keeping something from me,” I conclude after processing his words. It’s not heard of for all packs to convene in one place for the full moon rituals unless something big, something that has never happened in our lifetime, is happening. He remains quiet, confirming my suspicion. “I will just ask Sky.” “Blood, a lot of blood will be spilled that day.” Cold chills descends down my spine. With my luck, that’s probably my blood. “Whose blood?” I still ask. “I don’t know.” “It’s mine, isn’t?” “I don’t know, Cali, but I will die first before anyone touches you. You have my word.” So, he has also guessed that it would be my blood. The conversation I had with Marcus earlier about my healing powers came crashing back. “Not if I turn out to be a threat to the wolf species.” “Marcus told you,” he says with an irritated sigh. “I prefer knowing everything about myself, Your Majesty. Marcus knows that.” I earn myself a sharp stare for my address and utterance before he pulls me closer to him. Wrong move, now I can’t breathe. His heart is hammering against mine. I am smart enough to avoid his eyes. “Know this then, Gorgeous. My vow is regardless of what you turn out to be,” he adds with a deeper husky voice I have not heard since my birthday. “You are the Alpha. It’s your responsibility to protect the pack and wolf species,” I manage to murmur. “Don’t I know it.” “Leroy,” I warn. He is becoming too intense again. His voice is deeper and lethal. This is what convinced me before that he was my mate, but he is not. So, jealousy is what brings out this side of him. I am learning about this weirdness between us. “It will never be your blood, not while I live.” I feign a smile. He can make me all the promises in the world but none of that will matter when he has marked his mate. He will never oppose her from spilling my blood. I have to find a way to dish everyone that day. Surely I can transform into my wolf or whatever under the full moon wherever I am without the presence of the packs.
