Chapter Three

Damien's POV "Don't you dare tell me what I should or should not do!" I thundered and released my domineering aura making it almost impossible for the council to breathe. None of them dared to say another word for fear of my wrath but they murmured and my beta finally summoned the courage to stand up to me. "Please.." He begged. I sighed and dissipated my aura, making the air a bit more conducive for them to breathe in. "Alpha Damien, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we're all genuinely concerned for you and the continuity of your lineage, I suggest you find one of these strong women in the pack who catches your eye and make her your wife, the pack needs a Luna just as you need a companion." Levi; the eldest of the council of elders suggested. I scoffed and the old man gulped in nervously, I was tired of them having to petition and try to convince me to take for myself a mate and wife, to me it was all a waste of time and a mirage. "I do not need a woman by my side, there's no such thing as the fated woman for one, let me be! The pack is flourishing and you're all safe, that's all you need." I argued, hoping to talk some sense into their prying heads. "My Alpha, we're grateful for your protection but the goddess creates a mate for every wolf and none is to be alone, it would be of great advantage if you take a mate to silence the ongoing rumours that...." Levi began, his voice trailing off at the end. I shot him a murderous look and he stammered the rest of his sentence. "That you're half Lycan and half Werewolf." I snickered and turned to face them, unleashing my murderous stare. "Mention such an issue to me and you'll get to know if the rumours are true or not, I have to attend my cousin's coronation ceremony in five days, I'll be on my way, take care of what matters and stop gossiping about my personal life." I hollered dismissively before storming off. Paxton ran after me and caught up as I walked into my chambers. "Alpha Damien." He started. "Drop the formalities, we're alone," I said lazily. He sighed and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Damien, I believe they're just sincerely worried about you, no one wants your lineage to end with you," Paxton explained. "If I will take a bride it would be for procreation and I'm not interested in the make-believe stories of having one mate that will be with you and love you forever, it's all a lie." I spat bitterly. He chuckled softly and patted my shoulder. "No, it's not and I know that someday you'll meet that one the goddess made for you." I snickered and slid his hands gently off my shoulder. "That day will never come. Is my carriage ready? I wish to make a few stops before getting to the coronation ceremony, I need time away from all these." I joked. He laughed and gave me a nod of approval, after dishing out orders and entrusting the safety of the pack into Paxton's hands, I took off, alone. It was weird to drive around an empty carriage but it was a good cover and it would be my resting place if I needed to sleep but I was determined to just roam the woods or the outside world. Ever since I left my birth pack, I've been struggling to survive and creating the Bloodhounds Pack was my biggest achievement which came with its responsibility. Many knew the infamous demon alpha Damien who was not only ruthless but also rumoured to be the bastard child of a lycan and werewolf but only a few recognized me and those who did live in fear after encountering me but deep inside, I just wanted a peaceful and less dramatic life. I spent the first day wandering around and decided to camp at the foot of a cliff not far from the Greenwoods pack. I had sent out secret invitations to some alphas who needed to partner with my pack for protection and we did our business there, I decided to spend the second day just enjoying the scenery and I did until late at night when I was taking a bath in the stream and I heard a short yet loud noise and all of a sudden a heavy weight crashed down on me. My fighting instincts kicked in and I took a fighting stance, ready to fight whatever it was though I was naked and after a few seconds of inactivity, I lowered my guard. I poked whatever it was with a branch I had found earlier and it didn't move, the dazzling moonlight shone on it and I could make out the shape of a petite person, I slowly approached it and turned its body to see it was a woman, her face was bashed and all signs of life had drained from it. Though she looked horrible, there was beauty radiating from her. My wolf suddenly did a leap inside my head and growled happily, I thought I heard it wrong but it repeated its actions and my chest began to hurt seeing that the woman was barely breathing, I reached for a robe and covered my lower body and turned to help her, her eyes suddenly flew open and I could see the sadness in them though it was for a split moment. I tore her clothes open to be able to see how deep her injuries her and sparks flew around my body as my flesh came in contact with her bare skin. 'What's happening to me?' I whispered to myself. Her fingers suddenly twitched and she took hold of my hand. "Save me." She begged before finally passing out. Never in my life had I felt the urge and desperation to save a person therefore I honed all the medical skills I had with my wolf, soul and body all whispering the same thing; to save her.
